Title: Newsflash
Post by: Cornish Cream on May 28, 2012, 06:48:50 am
Late last night at approx 23.30 BST DH and I became grandparents. Our DD and SIL are the proud parents of a little baby boy weighing in at 6lbs 5ozs/ 2.86kg.I have been bursting with this piece of news for the past nine months but have held off telling you all because I didn't want to jinx the pregnancy.I'm not normally a superstitious person but as he was an IVF miracle,I have kept silent. We think he is going to be called Louis plus some other family names.
Yay I'm a Granny.Happy dance!!  :D :D

Dearest CC,

What great news. Congratulations to you and your family. I hope mother and baby are doing well. IVF is a scary thing, and not many success stories. This little grandson is a wonderful miracle.

Take care and I look forward to some photos

Hi fellow Granny - what exciting news at last.  Now we can both talk about our GK's instead of you having to listen about mine all the time LOL.  Congratulations to DD & SIL and the whole family - may this little fellow bring untold joy into your lives.  We are so happy for you.  :-* :-*

1st baby I stayed 3 days,
second I stayed 1 day,
3rd also 1 day,
4th had to stay 3 days (born 3 weeks early) and
5th stayed 11 days (born 5 weeks early)
I would of took them all home earlier if I could of though.

Congratulations on your precious Grandson CC.

I think it depends on whether you are in a private hospital or public for Australia. My younger sister went public and was home after 2 days, I went private with our three and each time stayed 5 days.

We have a relative in the US and even with private coverage she was still home after 2 days with a bill of over $5k!

Congratulations CC, that is fantastic news. They must be over the moon. I have had a few friends who have tried for so long to get pregnant and have tried IVF without success, so i understand you're not wanting to tell everyone.

I was in hospital for 2 and a half weeks when I had my son, but I had an emergency caesarian and ended up with a wound infection. That wasn't exactly a pleasant experience...

I had 5 days with both kids in hospital.
same doctor, and midwife, and same room for both, all in 12 months.

My mum said when we were born she stayed in hospital for 10 days, the nurses took the babies away over night and feed them boiled water if they woke. By the time mum went home all us children slept through the night.
Now that is service for you lol.
When my first 3 were born someone carried them down to the car and placed them in the car seat for you, and made sure the car seat was fitted correctly. But now they just send you on your way on your own.
I was never asked to leave the hospital early with any of mine. I just chose to leave when I felt ready.
With my last baby born 5 weeks early I had to leave the maternity ward after 2 days and placed in a boarding mothers ward where I was closer to the neonatal ward. But i had to fend for myself as the hospital stopped feeding me, so many times I missed out as the cafeteria was closed after I had finished feeding bub.

That's a tad harsh, isn't it? When my son was hospitalised last year with pneumonia I stayed with him, the breastfeeding mothers were fed by the hospital. I wasn't breastfeeding by that time, so I had to fend for myself and rely on the incredibly bad cafeteria food, but I thought it was nice that the breastfeeding mothers got fed.
Title: Re: Newsflash
Post by: dede on May 29, 2012, 05:40:23 am
Yes I thought it was harsh. As I wasn't the only mother that missed out on the evening meal because the cafeteria closed to early. We either had to eat a really early dinner or miss out. We could of brought sandwiches and cold stuff to eat later. But when you have just had a baby and are breast feeding sometimes you want a good hearty hot meal.

Good to hear all the bubs have arrived safely.
Really, whether you have had a baby or an operation you are better off at home. The longer you stay in hospital the higher risk of hospital acquired infections.

Congrats Dede, a godmother daughter relationship is so lovely. In UK you're out the door pretty much as soon as possible. I don't think I was ever there longer than 12 hours . But the midwives come and visit you in your home for the next week.

I am glad you said it mcmich.  I do however think a Caesar deserves a couple of days rest before the boot but they are both much safer at home.
