Title: Another newbie!
Post by: jojo on May 19, 2009, 01:06:26 pm
Hi - just joined today!

We got our TM - called Kermie! - last Thursday. First saw it a couple of month's ago at a friend's demo (her friend is a consultant), then I dragged hubby to another demo a couple of weeks ago. Then we decided to order one. Yaaay!

So far finding it really great and fun. Definitely more interested in cooking and hoping that continues.  :)

We have made - the vegie stock, pumpkin soup, bread, mixed berry sorbet, risotto, frothy milk, chilli con carne and our own invention - chopping up crunchie bar and mixing through vanilla ice cream. Yum!

We have bought ingredients to make some dips and also beef rendang which we will try this week.

All good so far! Looking forward to sharing ideas on here. Looks like lots of great recipes. Plus I notice from another intro some other Melbourne-ites.  :)

thermomixer maybe we should combine all the eastern states in our poll, so as to equal the size (and beat the numbers  :D) of the west aussies?  ;D :P

Welcome Jo.
What's all  this I read about combining states to beat the West-we can't have that. At the moment the things you are beating us in are football and swine flu. :-)) :-)) ;D ;D ;D

Football is good !!  Swine flu - bad, especially here in Victoria  :( :(

Swine flu is certainly bad over there. Sometimes there are advantages to being 'way over here' although  I have no doubt that it will soon be over here with a vengeance.

Hello again!

Just thought I better reintroduce myself....

Joined months ago but then life got in the way and haven't been on the foum. We were focused on finishing our new house and moving in and blah, blah, blah...

Anyhow, Kermie has been wonderful and we use it heaps. Definitely just now getting into cooking more and have become mildly obsessed in the last week or two in sourcing more recipes. Just putting together a folder of all the recipes I have found. Now just need to try them!

Also last week, we had a housewarming/birthday party and I made heaps of stuff which were hits! Dips, cake, chicken liver pate (just like the real thing!), and the best hit of all, chocolate salami. Yummo. Planning to make more for Christmas for family and friends.

OK - now reintroduced, shall check out the threads and start participating  :D

Welcome back Jo, glad to see you have been still using your Kermie even if you have been too busy to be on the forum. You are forgiven.  ;) ;)

Thanks!

I have to admit that I am yet to use the Varoma... need to find some recipes to try soon. A friend who has a TM called Hermie is thinking of having a Varoma demo in the new year, so shall go to that.

Welcome back! I did the same thing, joined earlier last year then disappeared for about 18 months!! When I got my new Timmy, I re-connected with these great people.

Must remember to make that chocolate salami!!

Welcome Jojo, I went to a Varoma demo, and yes it helps you realise how simple and easy it is and I use it heaps now! In fact I almost always seem to have it going with some fish or chicken breast rolls or veg above, whilst soup making underneath. I love it for cooking shellfish whilst cooking the sauce below too. Even the steamed desserts are good. I have made the creme caramel  (Flan in Spanish) which is super and also steamed apples (which are perfect) with yummy cider sabayon. The Full Steam ahead book is very good, although at first it doesnt look very appealing, persevere there are some great healthy recipes. Also its a good way to heat up food too, whilst you have something cooking below pop food that needs reheating in the Varoma rather than the microwave. I discovered this one as my microwave had to be serviced and I had to go without it for 2 weeks. It made me realise how good the varoma is for that too! ;)

Some will have heard me go on about the Varoma - but it as bron says it really is such a help - even to put pasta sauce in to keep warm while cooking the pasta below.

Once you start you will be amazed - I steam souffles in it, make bread in it, .....  Just do it.  Use it.  It won't bite you or explode.
