Title: Planning my christmas in july party, finger food
Post by: Halex on July 07, 2012, 10:47:42 am
I have 17 kids & 16 adults coming &. a magican!!

The night before I have a big night out, isnt it always the way, dh wrk function at a 5 * hotel.

So looking at food I can prepare before hand, mainly friday, reheat or preferably serve cold. I can freeze a few things, but all freezers are full!! Of course its my house.

Everyone is brining a plate, so that will be about 7-8 plates, so really not that much.

I have on the menu

Nigellas cocktail sausages
Mini quiches
Asian meatballs with dipping sauce
Foccacia bread with dips

Johnros cookies & cream fdge
Chcolate rocky road
Ilbimby chcolate cake

All food has to be eaten standing as there is a lot of people.

Any ideas, esecially on cold food I can just bring out of the fridge.

Thanks :)

Do you know what the others are bringing Hally?  Are you having dips/crackers/vegie sticks?  How about Vietnamese rice paper rolls or chicken satay skewers are really nice cold too.

My bread cases can be eaten cold. What about a fruit platter? Mini scrolls?

Made both of these to have with drinks and all my friends love them. For the adults only though :o
Bloody Mary Tomatoes (From Delia's How to Cook )
Serves 6
250g baby plum tomatoes( I just used baby tomatoes ;))
200ml vodka
1 tbsp. (15ml) sherry
1 tbsp. Worcester Sauce
A few drops of Tabasco
1/2tsp celery salt

To serve
1 teaspoon of celery salt
1/4 tsp of cayenne
2 tbsp of rock salt all mixed together and place in a little bowl.

Score a little cross on the base of each tomato, place them in a plastic container, cross side up.Whisk the rest of ingredients together and pour over the tomatoes.Pop a lid on the box and leave them in the fridge for two days.
To serve, drain the tomatoes and bring back to room temperature.Arrange on a plate
Invite your quests to dip a tomato into the salt.
Save the marinade to make another batch.

Quails eggs served with cracked pepper and salt. Not sure if you want this H :-\ As I don't know if you can get quails eggs?  :-[
It's very simple just cook 24 quails eggs until hard boiled, then shell and serve with a dip made of 1 tbsp crushed mixed peppercorns and a  1 tbsp of rock salt.
xx CC

The idea is that the quails eggs are small, easy to handle and you can eat them in a couple of mouthfuls.Even if you halved hens eggs the yolks might fall out when you bite into them :D
You could do deviled eggs (http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/deviled_eggs/) instead ;)

Gert, hows the tomatoes going.

Thanks, CC, devilled eggs, would they be ok done the day befre?

Had a thought, make little lemon meringue pies. Would lemon butter go in a pastry case in the oven with piped meringue on top. If this would work I coud make these on friday & serve sunday cold. Any ideas?

Also thought if mini shepherds pies would work, they are easy to reheat.

 :)

Have changed the menu to try & stay as close to my $100 budget.
16 adults & 17 kids.
Doing mini stockings for each child, bought the socks & will stuff them with lollies. This is not included in my budget.

Making 2 batches of crunch rolls, have all ingredients
Roast meats, silverside, lamb & pulled pork & gravy. Have these in freezer.
Mini pies & quiches, have most ingredients.
Nigellas sausages, have all ingredients
Dips & veg sticks, will make dips
Twistees, chips, & cheese & bacon balls, have these already

Cheese platter, seen boxes of cheeses for around$12 at supermarket.. Crackers, have these.
Carael slice, cookes n cream fudge, haver most ingredients
I love bimby cake or cup cakes

There will be a christmas cake made by a friend, plus I have a Lions one.

There should be about 6 plates people bring.

I am hooing that I will spend no more than $25-$30 on the party food

Do you guys think ths is enough food?

Sorry michele,  lovely photo,  forgot to post

I always worry that there is not enough food.

I woukd hate for people to go hungry & I always over cater, but am wondering if I am under catering.

Girls, I have moved Michele's wedding photo to a thread of it's own - Wedding Photos.  Add your own if you like.

Hally, there was one message I couldn't split from DG's posting regarding your party food quantity which was

Halex, I'm sure that will be fine. Sounds like a lovely evening is in store for all.

I think you have enough food there to feed a small army.  As you usually overcater, if you think it is enough then I imagine your judgement is correct. It sounds as if it's going to be a great day.
