Obbie, I used to make heapes of this when I did cake decorating. It's cheap to make and will keep in a sealed container for years.
GLITTER
To 3/4 cup water dissolve 5 teaspoons gum arabic powder. Add colour if desired.
Brush onto dinner plates and put into a hot oven, turn oven off and leave until dried.
Hope this helps
PS Gum Arabic is available at cake decorating stores and some chemists.

i have been playing around with coloured sugars
-
Uni, I often use coloured sugars too for sprinkling on vanilla biscuits before baking, or on cupcakes. I just put some sugar in a ziploc bag with some food colouring and then rub the colour through. I then cut a corner out of the bottom of the bag and use to sprinkle on the biscuit/cake.

b 4 baking ES, does the colour run ?

I havent had any problems with the colour running, but I havent used really vibrant colours.
