And your home insurance not to mention the electricity bill. Our rates in Cairns are higher than that. We are lucky to get the old farts discount . It ain't much but it helps .

We pay just over $1,600 for a commercial property

Ive heard electric is going through the roof in oz too?? My parents just got solar energy system installed which will save hem uite a bit... We will have o check out our options once we find a place in oz... Rates wont change though :(
In france renters haveo pay rates as well and all taxes... Never found that fair..

How the house selling going Kim,any more viewings? DB just sold his house and bought another.
-
Its very quiet here.. Thy say there is never much until mid august now...so a waiting game... No one seems overly concerned about it selling...i much prefer buying thn selling..weather hasnt been crash hot either which has made the agencies very quiet..
There are also more and more people who have diminished budgets as well as the french banks just arent lending money... Im not tat concerned though.. Just summer hols and you know how people are here about thrir holidays.. 😁
-
Yes electricty crazy too.

The banks aren't lending here either Kim :-\ And building societies are asking high rates of interest or just turn you down with no offer at all.
-
Good to hear db sold his place...its very quiet here but everyone keeps saying the second wave of buyers will come around mid august.. Will wait and see..
-
Rates sure are crippling. Like Gert we get the oldies discount so that does help. We have all our car insurances due this month too. I'm so very glad that we put in solar panels for the electricity. We haven't had a bill for 12 months. In fact we have sold some back to them. Electricity has gone up 57% here in the last few years.
-
Thats why my parents had them put in as with the pa and pumps and and and the electric was going up all the time.. Apparenly thy ill pay next to nothing but are waiting for teir first bill thingy with the solar panls.. And the guy told thm that electricity will skyrocket in the next few years.. Only time will tell i guess..

Just looked up our rates and they seem quite low compared to WA. Although we have a $350 bill on top of that per year for our enviro system checks. Our neighbours that have septic tanks are charged $1400 a year to get pumped out fortnightly.

Our rates are about $2400 per year here....

As we aren't on sewerage we have a pit on our property and the waste is broken down then pumped out via sprinkler system onto the garden and yards. It is a requirement to have the pit checked every 3 months to make sure that everything is doing what it is supposed to do.
-
Our rates are quite low. We only get mail 3 times a week though. Also on a dirt road. No garbage collection service or town water.
-
I'm so glad we decided to get the solar set up as well, we still have a few weeks to wait for them to be installed before we will see any benefit, but at least the ball is rolling.
As for rates when we first moved here they were around $1300 including water (except excess water) then they changed so we pay water separately and our rates dropped to around $900 + $400 for water (except excess water)
But now rates have increased again, we are due for our yearly rates notice any day.

how do u grt rid of the garbage DG
-
We take it to the tip (which is free) or take it to work and put in the garbage there.
-
free is good lol
-
we only get mail 3 times a week, very quiet here. No lights, kerbing...
-
Same here Robyn. I love living out of town.
-
Cookie, dh always gives me mail in bed if he thinks I am not going to like it ;D
Yes we have water, garbage etc.
:)
-
Since we own land, our rates are huge! Thousands of dollars. But, we get our roads graded, have a lovely town and our Shire keeps our sporting facilities in tip top shape. This is one cheque I don't mind writing.
It's electricity and water that's costing us a bomb. I'm trying to save up for solar panels, but they're $8K and unfortunately, it's just not achievable at the moment.
And, not to mention fuel! Sheesh, some places are charging $1.60 a litre. :o
I'll just have to stay home, sit in the dark and drink wine.

What a lovely DH.
MJ save hard, it is so worth it. Would you get a 5KW? We paid $9K for our 3KW, but that was with the subsidies.
-
Megan, stay home in the dark and drink wine.... ;D ;D
We pay $1.65 for diesel. We have 4 utes...
-
Cookie, yes dh has his moments ;D
-
Wow what solar panels cost 8 or 9 thousand???. My parents spent triple that 😱😱😱... I havent seen them but they are on one side of th roof from what i understand..
-
Dede Hi, we just received our first electricity account and pleased to see that the panels have made a big difference.
Frozzie, the price depends on where the panels are made i.e German or Chinese and the number of panels you install. You can have six or more. :)
-
Ah ok... We were getting thm installed here too but cancelled quickly (actually just in time) when we made the quick decision to move to oz ... We would have paid roughly the same as my parents which is why i assumed that was the price .. Think it was for 16 panels..
-
We were quoted around $20,000 a year or so ago.
We didnt go ahead as they woud have to sit on the front of the house to get the sun. It would have made our house look very ugly.
:)
-
Yes, I was just going for the cheapest option, then adding on when we can afford it.
-
We have 16 panels and a German inverter. I think I've probably said that we are over $1K in credit for the last year.
