Hi everyone,
I am a mumma of one busy toddler and a full time postgrad student in Canberra. I fell in love with the Thermomix a two years ago when I was busy researching for a replacement for my food processor. I have never seen a demo myself but know friends, who have one (and rave about this wondrous machine!), have seen it in action and did lots of research (including on this forum).
But then I was expecting and just didn't have the cash for a Thermomix so opted for a standard Kenwood FP instead. I thought I'd never be able to afford one anyway, so I told myself to just get over it and move on (I was quite heartbroken, lol).
But as love goes, I kept thinking 'what if' and would catch myself daydreaming about the Thermomix (true story!). Also would often curse myself for not having invested in one whenever I have to clean the FP after blending solids for my little one, or whenever I am forced to feed my family on processed crap out of time constraint.
This week I was busy reviewing cheaper 'alternatives' to the Thermomix when, suddenly, the lightbulb went on. Why settle for less? I will forever regret not buying the Thermomix and wll end up spending more money if the cheaper machine breaks! Do I really want to take that risk?
So, if everything goes to plan, I'll have sufficient funds by the end of this year. Wish me luck!
PS: I haven't gotten in touch with any consultants here in Canberra, so if you're one, feel free to drop me a message :-)

Goodluck Bimbylove. The way this year is flying you will have your machine in no time.
-
Great story bimbylove. I wish you well with your savings and welcome you to the forum. You are right, why settle for second best when you know you will never be happy until you have the TMX sitting on your bench.
-
Good luck, bimbylove. Welcome to the forum.
A tip: do your budget to order your Thermomix by the end of November, so it can be delivered in time foryou to get used to it in time for Christmas cooking.
-
Welcome to the forum bimbylove. Good Luck on your quest to purchase a TM by the end of the year :)
-
Welcome to the forum Bimbylove. You will have your TM in no time at all, and will wonder how you coped without it. :)
-
hi Bimbylove - and a very warm welcome to the forum! Good luck with your savings misison! By any chance have you checked out this thread? http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10115.0
I can imagine how time poor you must be atm - but if you can join in this particular challenge and add what you've saved to your fund it might make it grow more quickly . .. just a thought. :D
-
Hi Bimbylove, welcome to the forum. You will not regret purchasing a TMX. Good luck with your savings. :)
-
Hi Bimbylove. So true - don't settle for less. Any time I have wasted my money on a cheaper alternative (to whatever it may be) I have lived to regret it. Rather keep adding to the savings and you will get there. In the meantime you will have collected such a large file of "to do" recipes that you won't know where to start.
Good Luck!
-
Hi and welcome to the forum.
It will be the best $2000 you spend.
Robyn :)
-
Thank you for the warm welcome and the encouragement!
@cecilia: I'd love to, but November is looking too ambitious at the moment... We'll be away Christmas anyway, so it won't be me doing the cooking! But I will have my machine for next year when I am hosting the family reunion here in Canberra :)
@goldfish: This challenge is fab! I spend $150-$175 weekly on groceries (including nappies, etc) - way too much! Considering there's only 2 and a half of us. I always feel I need to do that 5-min run to woolies but always end up buying more, and they are usually processed crap. I have way too much stuff in my pantry that have gone unused--including normal sugar, castor sugar, icing sugar (still have unopened packets of each), different types of ready made sauces, packets of tomato paste, cans of diced and crushed tomato :o
@Deniser: You read my mind! I've even started a pinterest board http://pinterest.com/dhitri/bimby-love/ to collect recipes that I plan to do. I've also started a blog but it is private at the moment, it will go public as soon as I have my machine. It's called 'Bimby Love', what else! ;D
-
Welcome Bimbylove. Pop every spare cent into your savings and you will soon have your thermomix. Tell family etc that cash into the TMX savings box.tin is exactly what you want for birthdays etc. Try to start saving shopping money by doing things from scratch and put the savings away. The $100 a week challenge is good (as goldfish suggested) although I am having trouble achieving it.
Best of luck.
-
How inspirational bimbylove, your TMX will mean so much more having worked hard to save for it. November will be here soon and you will already know so much about the TMX prior to getting it delivered. YOu will also be able to keep an eye out for which "special" you would like. I was lucky enough to get second the bowl/blade set for half price. Happy saving!!
-
Welcome to the forum bimbylove. Around November/December interst free is usually offered.
It may work out for you. $40 a week less any money you save between now and November.
-
Hi bimbylove and welcome to the forum :)
Good luck with your saving, you won't regret buying a Thermomix that's for sure!
-
Hi Bimbylove you won't regret the $2000 outlay as it is worth every cent to have your TMX sitting proudly on your kitchen bench. :)
You will not want to stop cooking once you have it. Good luck :)
-
Hi and welcome to the forum ;D
-
Good luck with the saving Bimbylove, hopefully the time goes quickly.
-
Hello and welcome bimbylove. :)
Wishing you luck with your savings and hope time goes quickly til you have your TM :)
-
Good luck and happy saving. Took me two years to save for mine.
I've never looked back and love this forum.
-
Hi and welcome bimbylove and goodluck ith your savings
-
A bit of an update - savings didn't go as expected :o :o :o I took a research trip to Jakarta a while back and used up half of the fund for things here and there (I brought my toddler and she always needs 'something' or at least that's what I thought).
I might have to resort to plan B - make use of interest free period that I heard is coming up ??? ??? ???
Or maybe put the thermomix on a 6 month interest free CC. Hmmm, will have to see.
I must admit I have been looking at the copycats *cough* *cough* but I want the real deal!
Any advice? I want this baby so bad!
-
Hi and welcome maybe the 6 months interest free is a good idea. When you get your TM you will save a lot of money on food and eat a lot differently no more processed crap. You will have to buy a few different ingredients to start with then the savings will kick in. Plus you can make all your babies food from scratch.
-
Interest free is a good option bimbylove. I know you don't want to look at the alternatives, although I would suggest you take a peek at The Hotmixpro.
-
That's fine mcmich. I did take a peek at the HMP. Very tempting, but the thing with TMX that appeals to me is the level of support out there and fellow users. I am a lousy cook so I need a lot of help! :P
-
I agree with Yvette - hope you can get it on 6mths interest free....you will love it!! :D
-
That's a good point bimbylove - this forum is the greatest for support and recipes.
-
bimbylove, have a look around at some of the credit cards that are out there, you might find it cheaper to apply for one that has an interest free period or very low interest over the admin fees that are charged on the HO interest free deals.
-
Wonder is right. An interest free credit card would save you the $70 establishment fee and $4.95 a month account keeping fee.
-
12 months interest free is on !!
I've just ordered one, after lusting after them for years ;D HURRAH!!
-
Yay Kiki J :D
-
How exciting tell us when it arrives!
-
I will, don't you worry! Am slightly excited waiting for it ... :D
-
Took the plunge and ordered my thermie on Thursday!!! Yeah!
I decided to go with easy payment as I didn't qualify for finance (not a resident, boo!).
I can't wait!!!
I just set up my blog and pinterest board "Thermie Love" and now need to change my forum id to reflect that :D
And need to plan what to cook first!
-
:D :D :D :D
-
I have created a new forum id "ThermieLove" to match my blog and pinterest board (OCD much???).
I'll introduce muself properly once Thermie is here. Can't wait!!!!!
-
Congratulations, you wont regret your decision. Best purchase we ever made. Enjoy your new baby!!

A welcome to you now then under your new name ThermieLove.
-
That is excitiong news. Welcome again.
-
Congratulations ThermieLove! I'm looking forward to reading about your adventures :)
-
Well done ThermieLove. Do you know when your new toy will arrive?
-
I am not sure. My consultant said it takes 5-10 working days. Crossing fingers really hard that my Thermie gets here this week but I realise it's a busy season. Ooooh the anticipation...
-
Very exciting time the wait is worth it.
-
Two more sleeps!!!
-
Wow, Congrats ThermieLove!
You'll recoupe the outlay in no time! My hubby bought me a Thermi 6 mo ago - 1 month before bubba no.3 came into the world and since then (despite having a new baby) we have eaten home every night and not once gotten takeaway! BT (Before Thermomix), we averaged $35 on takeaway Indian once/wk, EVERY week. So far we've saved over $800! Weekly savings wasn't a factor when we bought, so has come as a welcome surprise! So glad you decided to go for the real deal, I spent 6 months looking at all the competition & apart from the HotMix Pro which costs more for S/S version, TM31 is the only one which doesn't lose it's settings when you stop to either weigh mid cooking or take the lid off. It's also got the best setup with integrated scales IMO. And it doesn't make a mess of pasta, etc when on reverse.
Well done on going for the best! I'm sooo excited for you! You'll LOVE IT!
-
Hi Supermum, thank you so much! I have wanted this ever since my daughter started solids (now she's 2) and now that I am getting a Thermie, I have started thinking about a second bub :D
We spend up to $100 a week on takeaways ($35 for once a week vegan takeaway, $25 for weekend Indonesian food takeaway, then $5 a day for lunch for me and hubby) because we're both so busy. That money will be put to much better use with the Thermie!
I also spend heaps of $$$ to feed my fussy daughter, keep tossing food out, etc. When she's teething or sick, the only thing she'll have are the smoothie/puree pouches, and they are $2 each! I have purchased reusable pouches and will stock up on homemade purees and smothies for my fusspot and save $$ that way.
-
wow, it will have paid for itself in no time! :)
where did you buy the pouches from? Great idea, esp for travelling, they are as mess free as you can get!
you mentioned very busy, do you & hubby run ur own business? What kind of work do you do? :)
-
Sorry to butt in on thermielove's post, but I've gotten some of those pouches from www.pouched.com.au :)
-
Oh thankyou i didnt even know they existed and my kids love those with either compote or yoghurt so will be great to get some of these and put my own stuff in them for lunches etc!!! 😊😊
-
Sorry to butt in on thermielove's post, but I've gotten some of those pouches from www.pouched.com.au :)
Thank you, thank you, thank you. :-* :-* :-*
I have been looking everywhere for these. My girls love them in their lunchboxes, in the car, in the nappy bag...
Was sure they had to be avaliable *somewhere*
thank you so much again...I have just placed my order!!! :D
-
great, thanks! And I just checked them out and saw they are Aussie product - something I'm VERY passionate about so will definitely be buying some and also promoting them on my ThermoStyle decals fb page. I reckon there'd be heaps of thermi mums that would love to know about them!
-
I got the reusable pouches from Squeezems but will check this on out as well. The Squeezems pouches are very small, it only holds half of what usually goes into the regular pouches. Good for little bubbas but not for my impatient toddler!
Supermum, DH and I are full time students AND run a consulting biz on the side. Business was good this year (hence the purchase) but at the same time I was completing my thesis so I almost went mad trying to juggle everything.
-
FYI the Squeezems ones is also by an Australian business. They are reusable but frankly filling and cleaning is a pain. Pouched seems so much more practical.
-
It's here!!! #hyperventilating

Love the look of a brand new Thermomix ;D Congratulations ThermieLove! What are you cooking? ;D
-
Yay thermie love!!
-
Vege stock paste! And now will attempt a mushroom risotto and later cauliflower chickpea curry. Wish me luck!
-
You dont need it... Go for it and just remember to read reviews of recipes in the books on here as any problems members have had will avoid you making amy mistakes from errors in recipe books.. Just go to recipe book reviews and look at what recipe your doing and amend your recipe book if necessary..
-
have fun ThermieLove!!
-
Now that is a pretty sight! Have fun, look forward to hearing what you cook
-
Good luck TL, can't wait to hear how it turns out! ;D
-
Happy cooking TL :)
