What does everyone think? Or is weekly too much, would monthly be better? :)
-
i think its acheivable - perhaps i should join you
i keep TALKING about all the recipes i need to convert !!!!
:)
-
I think it is a good idea. Perhaps just encouraging people to try one new recipe a week that isn't converted. Maybe an old family favourite or similar.
I find I now use the TMX for most things as second nature and don't usually write down times etc. I try to do so for recipes that I will post. Then I am a lazy bones and end up posting 2 or 3 on the same day.
-
Sounds good Astarra - I'm in ;D
-
Would love to do it, but some silly forum member has put me on a clean out pantry challenge. ;D
H :)
-
LOL H :D
I have stacks of recipes I'd like to be able to do in the TM, so thought if I started a challenge like this it would motivate me to do them, and was hoping others would join me! So thank you to all who are in! :-*
-
I'm excited Astarra :D And I'm actually converting a recipe for dinner tonight ;)
-
Not yet for me but hopefully in the not so distant future once I get a little more experienced :) since I have only had mine for a month.
How long did you all have your machines before you started converting recipes?
-
I'd like to participate but sounds scary. I think there would be too many disasters, I will give it a go with sow thing simple, you are all so inspiring 😄
-
Yes I think it's a great idea, will build on the already huge amount of recipes on the forum lol, but at least there will be heaps of variety.
-
I don't look at how a recipe might not work. I look at how much easier it could be in the TMX and how good I will feel if I get the conversion right :)
-
Yep, I am in. I looked through cook books today for inspiration and then was thinking how to convert to thermomix.
I did alot of cooking today, shopping Sunday, then more cooking.. ;D
-
I had one planned for tomorrow then found this thread so I'm in too ;D
-
Astarra, would you like us to post the name of the recipe and a photo in this thread, and then link to the recipe if works and we post it?
-
i dont do many main meals in the TM, but if i do i will post ;D
-
A great idea but dont think i will be contributing much for the moment..
-
I have posted the conversion I did tonight ;D
It was Chicken and Tarragon One-Pot, which I have posted here: http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10873.msg181420#msg181420 (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10873.msg181420#msg181420)
-
I did my steamed jam roly poly for dinner tonight and was pleased with it so I'll post that.
-
I converted a Madeira cake a couple of days ago , does that count? Lol
-
Of course it does Mandi :D
-
i think so dede ;D
-
Lol, well I'm well on my way to converting 1 a week then lol :D
-
you win ;D
-
Yay, what's my prize?
-
the forum member of the week award ;D
-
Warm fuzzy feelings ;D
-
Lol.
All jokes aside I think this challenge is a great idea to get some more recipes on the forum. :D
I have a pile of recipes I would like to convert and try out.
-
Better get cracking then!
I will look through some more Healthy Food Guides and convert some healthy ones ;)
-
I did my steamed jam roly poly for dinner tonight and was pleased with it so I'll post that.
ooh this is one of my faves of all time, so am going to try this cookie. I may have made it in the TM but can't remember, and am sure we will enjoy yours as per usual. You have been very busy this week as I have noticed a couple of recipes you've posted prior to this challenge. I am glad this challenge has been brought up because I have been thinking lately that there haven't been regular recipe postings of late.
-
I'm in. Love converting recipes. This is probably why I don't use my recipe books very much. Like CP, I have noticed that there have not been a lot of recipes posted of late.
Excellent idea, Thanks.
-
Good idea. I will give this a go too.
-
Astarra how delightful to wake up on a Sunday morning and see a great new challenge. Sounds like fun and thank you for thinking of it.
I have no idea what Ros is going on about "accountability focus" and "organisation" but this sounds like a challenge made for us and a chance to get some new/old recipes of our or our mother's favourites on the forum. Also it will help newbies to gain some confidence in their ability to convert not to mention us lazy old timers.
Halex I am gunna use this challenge to help in the other challenge to clean out the pantry.
Here is my challenge I have wanted to do for a long time. This can has been sitting in my cupboard for god knows how long. It has a ring pull so it must be no more than about 5 years eh? I don't even like creamed corn but vaguely remember I bought it to make a recipe of a creamed corn casserole my mother used to make. Either that or a sort of corn bread my dad used to love.
I will be really reaching hard to try to remember and I may have to get Mr. google to help find the "one".
Good way to start new week and Amy is well ahead of us.
Gert
-
Well said Gert.
-
Ooh good Gert, hope you get a good recipe I have quite a few tins of creamed corn :) had yellow curry paste & coconut milk last night, it was ok, but after having cooked fab curries earIier in the week it was dissapointing of course. Well at least it was 2 tins gone :)
H :)
-
Oh Gert we make an asian chicken and corn soup and whisk through an egg. It's very popular here.
I've recently converted a Taste.com steamed asian chicken recipe for the TMX. I cooked the rice in the basket while the chicken was cooking. About 1/2 way through I turned the chicken a bit and added some veggies to the varoma. Once it was all cooked I rinsed the TMX bowl and added all the juices from the baking paper that was in the varoma and thickened it with a bit of cornflour to make a nice glaze.
-
Gert, corn fritters, served with bacon. YUM
Can I post a conversion of one of my recipes ????
Flat Seed Bread. Wanted bread for toasting and sandwich maker.
Used Laucke Grain, Soy and Linseed Mix. 500g. Could make your own with plenty of soaked whole grains.
2 teaspoons of dried yeast
1 tablespoon Walnut oil.
280 mls warm water.
Knead 4 mins. Prove in bowl until double.
Turn out and press into a flat tin or press out with hands and rolling pin to1 1/2 cm. Spray with water and scatter with seeds of choice. I used nigella and sesame seeds.
OOPS...... Forgot to say mark it in to sections before second rise
Prove to double.
Bake 15 mins turn, bake another 15 mins.
This is very grainy, but not hard to chew.
-
That looks great Chookie, please post :)
-
Well I did the recipe I remembered from childhood and posted it in the Vegetable thread.
http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10874.0
I think kids would like it but I do think I will never ever make it again. Amazing what you loved when you were 7 tastes so ordinary when you are 67. LOL!
Anyway I used up the damn can.
Gert
-
Ros you have me scared, all those big words make me think I'm back at work again. :)
CP you are right about my couple of converted recipes, they had been sitting there waiting and I stopped procrastinating ( ooh another big word) and did them. I'm on the ipad at the moment so will post the roly poly when I can get onto the big computer. We enjoyed it with custard.
-
Good work Gertie.
Cookie, I can't wait for your recipes ;D
-
Amy, I have posted basic recipe with photo.
You can use any oil and any flour.
It is the process of pushing it flat that is different.
Have fun.
-
Thanks Chookie! :D
-
My recipe done - Tuna & Mushroom Noodles (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10876.0)
-
Already copied it into Evernote Judy ;D

LOL Gert. That's how I felt about the tin of peaches. The upside down cake looked quite anaemic but tasted great with vanilla bean custard.
-
You're quick Amy :D
I've also done a Choc Chip Muffin (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10878.0) recipe - only makes 8 but you could double it.

I was waiting eagerly Judy :D
I would go and make the muffins right now but there is a carpenter sanding our kitchen ceiling... :-))
-
That'll be a nice mess to clean up Amy :(
-
Seems there are a few kitchen renos going on at the moment.
-
That'll be a nice mess to clean up Amy :(
I know Judy :( I'll even need to brush my dogs because they keep walking through the kitchen and getting covered in the dust :-))
But it will be worth it in the end, when we have a lovely new kitchen :)
-
It will be worth it. What sort of dogs do you have Amy?
-
A black kelpie x labrador called Roxy, and a purebred boxer called Sophie :)
-
Wow - was out all day today, got home and found I had 4 pages of reading to do!! :)
I'm glad my idea has been met with such enthusiasm, can't wait to see the new recipes piling in!! :)
As for rules etc, I really don't mind, whatever works best for everyone. I had wondered about maybe saying here what you converted and photo if possible, then either a link to it or say what section it is posted in. Whatever works for everyone, I am quite open to opinions!
Big round of applause to Judy, Gert, Amy and Mandi :D
-
I knew you would be impressed when you cam back online Astarra :D :D
-
Well at last I have put up some converted recipes. Some have been waiting for a while, so thanks for stirring me up.
I thought the steamed Roly Poly (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6572.0) was a new conversion but I had done it before.
I've also posted a Golden Syrup Chocolate Cake (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10880.0).
I've also added Potato and Leek dish (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10856.0) and a Quinoa and Vegetable Bake. (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10864.0)
-
Loving the potato and leek Cookie.
-
Well done Cookie, you have led the way in this challenge.
-
This sounds fun. I converted my orange and chocolate refrigerator biscuits yesterday, so must get a wiggle on to post the recipe.
-
Please do get wiggling ES, that sounds like a really yummy recipe ;D

Wow, cookie - you have been busy! :)
Thanx for joining in. :)
ES - look forward to seeing your recipe too! :)
-
Well after starting this thread I have just converted a recipe for Apricot Cookies - tho I had to take miss 18mths to the toilet just as they were in their final stages of cooking so are a bit burnt on the base, but they taste soooo good. Will post the recipe in cakes now. :)
The first pic are my burnt bum ones, the second is a photo of the picture in the book.
-
They look lovely and I bet they taste good.
-
They look lovely and I bet they taste good.
Just had a friend call in and let her try one - she was very impressed too, said they were "delicious and very moreish" - as she got herself another one!! :D
-
They look great Astarra, I think I will try them this weekend!!
-

Hope you do Amy - can't wait to hear how they go! :)
-
I'm going to make them too astarra. They look delicious.
-
Nice recipe astarra and apart from the burnt edges, yours look just like the book picture.
-
Is there a method for converting recipes? I'd love to help but I'm still using just TMX recipes cause I'm scared to covert since I have NO idea. :-\
Jadey :)
-
Jadey, I think most people find a similar recipe that is already for the TMX, and then base the recipe they want to convert on that.
I usually just wing it though! ;D
Don't be scared of experimenting and just following your gut feeling. You can make some really great food when you follow your instincts ;)
-
Would love you to join in Jadey. :) I understand your fear tho, I'm still a bit like it, and needed a push to get me going - hence this topic!! :)
-
Ok, I've posted my chocolate orange biscuit recipe.http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10912.0
(http://img.tapatalk.com/0e022973-4553-2623.jpg)
-
Oh yum ES! So these would be like jaffa biscuits?
-
Yes!
I'm on a roll here - I have also converted the rainbow chard and cheese pie that I made for dinner tonight. I have posted it in the vegetarian section.http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10913.msg182954#msg182954
(http://img.tapatalk.com/0e022973-58bd-9ce7.jpg)
-
Indeed you are ES - all I can think of is the retreat coming up and cooking has taken a back seat to that :-))
-
Yay, thanx for your conversions ES - they sound and look yum! :)
I'm going to make them too astarra. They look delicious.
Yay - can't wait to hear what you think of them Michele. :)
-
Not sure I can do one conversion a week, but here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10918.msg183112#msg183112) is one that I've been meaning to post for a while.
-
That looks really good Chelsea. Thanx! :)
PS: Loving your recipes in Devil book too! Thanks again! :)
-
No worries. I just wish life wasn't quite so busy because I miss converting recipes. :)
-
Does anyone feel like converting Martha Stewarts Perfect Mac and Cheese recipe?
http://www.marthastewart.com/271998/perfect-macaroni-and-cheese (http://www.marthastewart.com/271998/perfect-macaroni-and-cheese)
It's honestly the best mac and cheese I've ever eaten but it's tedious to make so I haven't made it in ages. I'm sure thermie could fix it.
BTW - yes I'm being a wuss getting someone else to convert it hahaha.
Jadey :)
-
Yes you are but as you are a newbie you are forgiven. Someone will come to the rescue. ;D :-))
Not the sort of thing I eat so not me.LOL!
Gert
-
Really Gert? It never used to be something I eat but I tried it once and thought it was the one of the ultimate comfort foods.
Jadey :)
-

Jadey :)
Well that being the case I will join you in waiting for someone more clever than us to convert it.
Gert
-
Jadey I haven't made it but if you would like a brief outline this is what I would do.
Grate cheese and set aside.
Cook macaroni and put into thermoserver.
Melt butter and toss over bread pieces in a bowl.
Heat the milk in the microwave.
Melt butter, add flour.
Add hot milk.
Cook 7/8/ minutes at 90.
Stir in the other stuff. Then continue as in step 5.
-
Just converted another one. :D
Chinese pickled red cabbage and ginger. Posted under Salads. No photo yet.
I am running ahead as I am going to be away for 2 weeks. Guess Where.?????
-
Converted a Zucchini brownie recipe, think its a flour though cause is smell disgusting :o, has maple syrup as the sweetener, no butter or sugar. I'm going to ice it and see if the family will eat it or not, otherwise the chooks will have a good feed :D
-
Astarra, you made me feel guilty - i often cook or adapt recpes from this site, but rarely post. My excuse has been it mightn't be too many people's taste - gf, no added sugar, full fat, no additives etc - but, I know there are many people who are looking for alternatives, so I will join in and record some of the meals or treats I am cooking.
I have converted a souffle. Very basic, but delicious. Will post it in starters. I was very surprised at how it turned out, as I wasn't happy with the way the egg whites behaved. I beat them with the bamix and thought they could have had better soft peaks. They would not form peaks like I wanted. But they rose beautifully and had a lovely taste.
I was too lazy to wash and clean the TM bowl to whip the eggs - next time will do that and take the eggs out of the fridge earlier.
The recipe made four - 2 souflees tonight and 2 flat cakes for tomorrow ;D
-
That's the spirit ElleG. We are all individuals in our cooking and it's lovely to share variations with our members, especially those having to allow for intolerances.
-
Don't feel bad ElleG, glad you can join in now! :)
And you are right, there would be alot of people wanting those sorts of recipes! :)
Heading over to starters to look now! ;)
-
I converted a recipe tonight for Lamb, Tomato and Butter Bean Hotpot. About to post it.
Mum said it was nice, but I'm sure it could use some tweaking to make it better. I didn't eat it because I don't eat red meat, but as I was making it I felt like something was lacking. Maybe it could use some mushrooms, herbs or more spices. Not sure :-))
-
That looks yummy Amy. :D
-
Thanks Astarra :D
-
i dont eat lamb but i would right now ;D
-
My conversion for this week will have to be the Tahitian Sweet Bread.
-
I did mine for chicken sausage snails... and forgot to write down the times and speeds. :-[ So will have to post after I make them again....which will have to be when I get over this flu thing and my DH and Miss 5 and Miss 19mths are well too - hoping Miss 3 stays well... :)
-
I converted M/W porridge, that i am very happy with ,does that count lol
-
LOL Uni! :D - still a conversion isn't it??! :)
-
;D
-
I converted M/W porridge, that i am very happy with ,does that count lol
Uni, of course.
-
Absolutely Uni ;D
-
I posted one , then lost it. Does this count ?????
Will post again.
-
did u have it saved or do u need to retype it out
-
Uni, it disappeared off the iPad. I think I pressed something. What a dill >:( >:( >:( >:(
I have posted a recipe for Crisp Fish batter, under fish and seafood. Not sure if this is the correct thing to do.?
-
Sounds nice, chookie! :)
-
Here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?board=36.0) is my conversion for the week.
Banana, Date and Walnut bread
