Have this churning in my ice cream machine.
Followed instructions until freeze several hours. Instead used ice cream machine.
Had all the ingredients apart from the Heilala vanilla extract. so I just added 1tsp of Heilala paste with the cream.
So far the taste is great, cant wait to try it once totally frozen. It shoukd be fantatic with all the vanilla bean paste, ;D

This is beautiful tasting. It is a true vanilla icecream, not like what they call vanilla at the shops. Definitely a 5/5 from us.
-
Yes fantastic ice cream making another batch today. Thinking this would be good to have in the freezer all the time & no egg yolks so no extra whites to use up :)
One error, I used the double strength vanilla paste but dudnt half it, so this batch will.
H :)
-
how long did it take to churn in your machine H?
I must dust mine off....haven't used it in ages, and I would like to show hubby what REAL vanilla icecream should taste like ;).....I have to convince him that Bulla is not the just the be all :P

30 mins Maddy
Has your paste arrived?

No, not yet :(. Was hoping it would arrive for the weekend, as I'm all out....and I wasn't going to buy another small pot of the other stuff!

How do you think I feel about my growing girth??? Its all your faults!

I made this today too, well not exactly to the recipe, in fact probably nothing like the recipe except the method :-))
Had no full cream milk so used powdered milk, used thickened cream instead of pure cream, making up the full quantity with some light cream when I ran out, had no rapadura sugar so just used raw sugar, no vanilla paste so used 2 tblspns of my homemade vanilla extract and omitted the second lot of vanilla.
Sorry for messing with your recipe Tenina but it is absolutely gorgeous although I imagine nowhere near as gorgeous as yours. With the amount of ice-cream I eat here though, it will certainly do me. I just cannot bring myself to spend that sort of money on vanilla paste to improve the flavour even more and I am more than happy with my version.
-
LOL, nothing like the recipe, but who cares if it tastes good :)

I would love to give this ice-cream a try - but I cant find the recipe? I have looked in FFS, and on Tenina's website, but no luck. COuld someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks!
-
It's in her latest which is an eBook Karen. Here's a list of contents from the book.
-
Thanks JD - I have already bought her e-book, but just didnt think of looking in there :P
-
That's OK Karen, we all have moments like that :D

can't wait for the weather to warm up, really want to try this
-
It still tastes amazing in the cold weather too. I can vouch for that. ;)
-
I second that, we all love it & my friend did too.
:D

I'm thinking of getting this ebook - it looks nice. I was just wondering whether you need an ice cream maker to make this recipe or whether you could just stir it every so often?
-
Tenina's recipe is for the Thermomix rostess but all ice-cream recipes can be churned if you have an ice-cream maker.
-
I don't have an ice-cream maker, so that is good that I don't need one to make this. Hmm... sounds like a new cookbook purchase is not far away....
-
have to mention that the texture of this ice cream stayed lovely and creamy after freezing for a few days, and so easy to scoop.
I have made other recipes, and they seem to go a little icy or gritty iykwim?
This one didn't....and the flavour is perfect. Highly recommend.

YUM....what a great pic Maddy.
-
I made this the other day and was nice that night - very creamy. It hadn't frozen rock solid when I did the final blend, although it had been in the freezer for about 8 hours. Tonight I pulled it out and it was quite icey so I decided to whip it up again. Big mistake! It completely separated and I had to throw it out. Could it have been icey because it wasn't frozen solid to start with?
-
Rostess...Tenina suggests popping it in the fridge for 20 mins before serving...that does make a difference to scooping.
-
I did take it out the freezer about 10 minutes before serving, but it was still icey, not creamy.
-
I am not sure why it would have separated Rostess. I have never seen that happen before, though perhaps it is because it gets eaten on the first round...never a second chance at my house.
;D
Wondering if it was to do with over beating which is possible with any dairy...will ask some questions of my dairy judging friends.
-
I have made quite a few batches & no problems here.
I have 2 in the freezer, I am sure they are fine.
H :)
-
Now that i think about it, it had a slightly separated texture on the first eating because I remember noticing that I could feel the fat sticking to the spoon (I don't know if that makes sense - when I say 'fat' I guess it was the butter from the separation process). I probably just over mixed it in the first whipping stage and that would have resulted in the texture not being quite right when I took it out last night. I'll definitely make it again though as it tasted beautiful until I destroyed it!
-
I had exactly that same taste (you described it well Rostess) with my last batch. I did a double mix and churned one lot in my ice-cream maker whilst doing the other half in the TMX. The TMX version was as you described albeit it still tasty whereas the ice-cream maker version was much better.
-
I made some on Sunday and ate a little on Monday night. It was pretty good, a little icy but I think I will whip it agina and see if that helps - we shall see. I'll check again tonight....
-
Dragonfly - I whipped it again and it separated and turned to mess!
-
I made this again last night and put it in the freezer until tonight. I only mixed/whipped it for about half the recommended time in the final stage and it is beautiful! It's a much nicer texture than the last batch I made.
-

I figured it out...because I did the same thing with another recipe I have been playing with. The cream was overwhipped. It then affects the whole texture of the ice cream...so under whip rather than over whip is the answer....
Hope you managed to enjoy it eventually!!
;D ;D
-
I sure did thanks Tenina
-
Something for all of us to be aware of now that ice cream season is coming.
-
I think I can say I made this tonight....I didn't have any rapadura sugar so used brown sugar and I didn't have any vanilla extract, and I used thickened cream. I also used my ice cream maker to churn it. I think the biggest change I made was when I was just about to put the mix in my freezer to chill before churning and I saw my coffee maker.....so I put a shot of espresso in half of the mix....it was sooo good!
The texture was incredibly smooth and creamy.
Thank you for such a great recipe Tenina, I hope you don't mind me sharing my tweaks, it's obviously a fantastic recipe to start with.
-
Great tweaks. My preference is always an ice cream maker for ice cream, but I write recipes for those without. A shot of Crio would be awesome as well!
-
Finally made this and ate it tonight.....and is was 10 degrees outside when we ate it! Loved it thank you.
-
Nice ice cream is a pleasure to eat at any time. :D :D
