I love the concept of flavours and how they work together. There have been a few discussions on other threads about weird flavour combinations, but I was wondering if we could all share our favourites on here :)
I'll start with the weirdest one I have ever loved, bearing in mind that this is when I used to eat junk food: hot chips dipped in a spearmint milkshake ;D
What other good ones are out there? :-))
-
Vegemite and salt and vinegar chips on really fresh bread, mmm absolutely delicious xx
My DS likes to dip his chips in caramel sundae :-))
-
Twisties inside a fresh buttered bread roll.
-
I'm thinking about mine, but my DH has always said he loves potatoes and custard (although, after 35 years married to him I have yet to see him eating this!).
-
I love hot chicken with raw banana....but everyone else seeme to think it is weird.... ???
-
I don't think mine is really weird but some do. It is cheese and jam sandwiches or a nice cheddar slice on top of Christmas cake.
-
Fresh strawberries and freshly ground black pepper
-
I went to our neighbors for dinner and she served up fresh crusty white bread topped with strawberry jam, a slice of Camembert and a slice of pickle. I ate one, initially just to be polite, but it worked in a weird way!
-
Oh, it was just a nibble, not the actual dinner :D
-
I don't think it's weird but some do. Peanut butter and banana sandwich.
I also like carrot (cooked) and honey sandwich.
-
I don't think I eat anything weird - am I weird or normal ???
-
Vegemite and banana sandwich, banana and ham sandwich, and banana and fish is nice, good old banana's they go with lots of things
-
A friend introduced my son to Vegemite on hot cross buns. I like Vegemite on toast with an egg on top, or on a sandwich with lettuce. I think it's weird to put it on something sweet.
-
I agree EmeraldSue. My friend loves Vegemite on raisin toast - I tried it and could not eat it.
-
A big pile of steamed vegies, roughly mashed, with a good dollop of butter and Vegemite mixed through so it melts..... :)
Have you tried it yet Amy? ;)
-
Oooo, I just remembered another one but this one was purely a pregnancy craving - instead of a good BLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato) sandwich I craved I guess what you would call a BLS sandwich (bacon, lettuce, strawberries!) :-))
I haven't had it since! :P
-
For me weird is vegemite and cheese ??? and please note I've never had it!

Hehehe, no, but thats what gave me the idea for this thread... ;D
I love some of the combos coming out of this! I never would have dreamed of some of them :-))

Weird is the new normal Judy.... so you are weird ;D ;D ;D

That was one of my favourite sandwiches when I was a kid! :o :o :o
-
stewed plums, icecream and cornflakes - yum!!
-
I love vegemite and avocado on toast - not weird really.
-
Pretty healthy, Denise!
I love tomato and peanut paste sandwiches. Also, really rich fruit cake with cheese - apparently an English thing.
-
pickled herring (roll mops) & lettuce sandwiches :P
-
I love Vegemite with cheese on toast or sandwiches ;)
Hated Vegemite when I first came to Oz.
-
Also love toast with Vegemite topped with avocado, bacon and mushrooms ;D
-
I loved popcorn drizzled with ice magic peppermint flavor...haven't had it for years but recently made popcorn with nutella.....mmmmm
Rara x
-
Also love toast with Vegemite topped with avocado, bacon and mushrooms ;D
That sounds very yummy MF. Will have to try that over the weekend. :D
-
It's also nice without the vegemite Michele :)
-
Cookie, jam and cheese on toast is what DH and DS5 had for breakfast this morning. They, like you, just love it but I just can't get my head around it
-
DS also likes toast spread with peanut butter, topped with a slice of cheese and then microwaved until the cheese melts.
-
i am sure 30 years ago a creamy prawn and avocado pasta dish would of been weird lol
-
So true Uni :-))
-
Some of these weird combinations are sounding very yummy.
Peanut butter and melted cheese 8)
-
tomato potatoe chip sandwich
-
Ummm vanilla ice cream with crushed cornflakes and grapefruit juice on top ;D
Was many years ago and wish I could say that it was a pregnancy craving but...
-
Peanut butter and melted cheese 8)
Even better when the peanut butter goes really melty too ;D
-
tomato potatoe chip sandwich
fav, so far yum , i like mine with butter 2 ;D

i dont think this is too weird but i love Vegemite, grated carrot, beetroot and cheese toasted in a sandwich and some people that i work with always comment on it ??? ??? ???
my secret weird combo are-- twisties and strawberry ice-cream 0r beetroot, mayo and BBQ (or Atomic tomato) chip sandwich.
but i am seeing a dietician every week atm ..... so i have given up all of the above :-))....for now :P
-
My DS surprised me again with his food choices.. He deemed the pork, vegetable and noodle dish I cooked for dinner inedible, and after eating the required number of spoonfuls, DH offered to make him one piece of toast. He requested ( and enjoyed) toast with peanut butter, topped with kabana and cheese, and microwaved until the cheese melted. ???
A treat when we were kids was a specialty of my dad, on the few occasions when there were potato chips in the house. He would mAke us a sandwich with cheese and chips - generally plain chips, but sometimes chicken flavoured chips.
I also have memories of tuck shop days when we would order a plain roll and a packet of cheese (or. Chicken) twisties. We would eat out the soft bread filling and then stuff the cavity with twisties. Then we would devour the twistie filled roll. Not sure I could eat one now.
-
DH's fav toasted sanger : fresh chicken, cheese, tomato, mayo and salt n peppar
My fav pregnancy combo (when I was pg) tinned baby beetroot, tinned tuna (the one with mayo and seeded mayo), gherkins and pickled onions........ looked weird but was what I needed.

Vegemite seems to be a common theme....
I love Nigella's Vegemite pasta...at first I thought it was weird but then upon reading her intro to the recipe, if you think of the Vegemite as a kind of salty stock paste it seems more palatable.....sprinkled it parmesn it is delicious!
I also love sweet and salty combinations.....Twisties followed by Crunchie bars are yum!
That reminds me of another Nigella recipe, sweet and salty crunchy nut bars where she uses salted peanuts and crunchie bars mixed with melted chocolate...it's one that people love or hate!

l had a deep fryed mars bar from a fish and chip shop while in QLD my friend loves them but l hated it
-
Chips in sandwiches or rolls seem to be quite normal for most people! ;D
All I can think is how much carbohydrate would be in them... :-))

Can't even imagine eating a deep fried mars bar. :o
-
Neither can I MF... but then again, I can't imagine eating deep fried anything :-)) ;D
-
I love deep fried and salted anything. Much prefer that to sweets.
