Title: My blades are cactus
Post by: Halex on February 06, 2013, 04:00:53 am
Trying to make pasta with 3 eggs, 300g flour & 1tbs of olive oil.

Crumbs, not even crumbs, food not moving at all

Removed & put into 2nd jug, perfect.

Contacted consultant the other day when it wouldnt make mash.

HO sending me new blades, warranty runs out in March :)

So thank you to HO.

H :)

Always handy to have the second bowl and I'm glad the other blades played up before the warranty ran out Hally.

Yes, must i. Time.

Now do I throw these blades out or keep them for reverse cooking??

:D :D It's funny how we can't get ourselves to throw out old bits that have been replaced.  I still have my original lid seal in a ziplock bag marked 'no good' - if it's no good why can't I throw it in the bin then  :-))

Hally and JD throw them out.

Yes I knw, but blunt blades on reverse would be good, surely?

You'll get them muddled up surely?

No, put nail polish on the black bit & keep in another cuboard :)

What if the recipe suddenly tells you to not use reverse though Hally - bit hard to get it out and put another one in.  I'm not going to use my old lid seal and I don't think you would need to use your old blades when you will have 2 perfectly good sets which are capable of going either way Hally.

You are all right, but in my mind, what if........

JD  if you throw  out I will too.

Oh come on you two! Just chuck them!!!

 ;D ;D ;D

I've had the same blades since 2008 and I do heaps of grinding, really give them a work out. Maybe yours were Friday blades.

Now in my defence wouldnt blunt blades be good for things that dont want to be over chopped :)

Chuck them Hally what if they start leaking something you still have two other blades  :)

Ok, ok, ok, ;D

I promise I will, it seems such a waste of perfectly good reverse & not chopped up food blades.

You can tell I am not good at throwing things out :)

They will go in the rubbish today.

Hally, the penny finally dropped.  You mean when cooking meat and vegies and are thinking if you use blunt blades, everything will stay in shape and not get mushed up?  Using the reverse action on your new blades would be exactly the same though.

They are in the bin, but rubbish day is tuesday ;D

I've taken my old seal out and put it in the lid to try one more time before I throw it out  :-))  I had heard a hint that you soak them in cold water in the fridge overnight and that helps them seal better  ??? - this one had been soaked and put back in the plastic bag without being tried since.  My current second oldest one is now leaking when I self-clean the bowl so I am going to see if the oldest of the 2 is any better.  My new unopened seal is still one of the black ones without the silicon edge.

My new seals are the new ones. My seal does need replacing but I don't really want to use the new smelly ones.

Are the new ones smelly? I hadn't noticed...

Don't know MJ. Just that some people seem to have had issues with curry smell etc lingering with them.

Cookie, I got a new seal maybe 6 weeks ago now and I haven't found it to be smelly. In saying that though as soon as I have finished cooking everything is rinsed and put in the sink with detergent and hot water to soak while we eat.  :)

P.S. Judy, I still have my old seal in the back of the cupboard too! I should follow Hally's lead and just throw it out! Actually I will bin it right now!!  :D :D

My seal has smelt since day one after being christened with the demo delivery veggie stock concentrate :(
I always rinse my bowl, lid immediately with cold water, then detergent and hot water, have hung the lid by its hook on side of bowl since day one, tried bicarb, lemon juice, freezer method which helped but the smelly seal has never lost the stale smell of onions and garlic, even my non Thermie silicon spatula smells exactly the same.

I mentioned my concerns regarding the smell to the service dept at HO and they sent me a new seal and suggested I used that for deserts,
So now have one seal for savory and the other for sweets - haven't christened it yet ...worried I might forget to swap it back and go and contaminate the new one too  :-))

I do have a good sense of smell but Im not pregnant   ;D

I have two new ones and my plan is to have a sweet sealing ring and the other for savoury.
