My Breville iron is going in the bin - it's dunzo.
What iron are you using that your really happy with? I've had not much success in finding a goodie.
I don't have the storage space for a steam station type one, just a regular iron.
product review had favourable comments for
tefal primaglide

Philips GC4865/GC4856 (actually a few philips models were positively reviewed)

Any opinions appreciated :)

I would definately opt for a Teflon plate rather than the polished ones, they never seem to stay non stick for long. I recently bought a Phillips from Big W for $43, seems to be OK, but I didn't realise until I used it that it doesn't have an auto off feature like my last one did. Not that I ever forgot to turn it off, but I think it's a good safety feature to have.

I've had good runs from Sunbeam ones.

I have a Tefal iron Maddy and it is very good and does a good job. Now having said that, it has to be filled from the bottom,(at the back of the sole plate) you have to turn it up side down and fill it which can be a bit of a pain. It is fairly heavy so when I iron I get to excercise my arm muscles as well. I was told recently whilst buying an iron for DS's that the more holes the iron has in the sole plate, the better the iron.

I have a philips gc 3360, have had it quite a while and really like it. Very good steam, with lots of outlets and burst.
I am fussy and find it fits the bill.

When I read the title of this thread I thought iron pills! Silly me!!!
I have an iron attachment for my steam cleaner.
http://www.johnlewis.com/polti-vaporetto-evolution-steam-cleaner-green/p231525839
This is is a far better iron than the steam irons with reservoirs that I used at work, where i did a minimum of 8 hrs ironing a week. They were around £120 for a good one. Philips was the make there.
The Polti iron is great, however it is not non stick ( it doesnt stick) the cord never twists and the steam is very powerful.
If I'd known what I know now having used the cleaner I'd have had a bigger steam cleaner and get the iron attachment as an extra.
-
WoW DJ....that's one serious unit :o.....um, I plan to NEVER iron 8 hrs in a week :P
Thanks for all your suggestions....will look around today :)
-
Ha ha, no Maddy I don't iron that much at home! But I learnt about the reservoir irons while at work and they had awful probs with lime scale. The polti has special stuff to put in the machine to,prevent this.
But I meant it is a great machine, and am very happy with it!
Have fun choosing! ;D

This iron is at least 15 years old. Ok I don't use it very much and I probably have ironed less than 2 hours a year.

It is very versatile as you can see you can just plug the iron into the wall. You can use it cordless by plugging the stand in and lifting the iron out to use remotely.
It was not expensive.

I have the CALOR Pro Express Turbo Steam Iron .. I hate ironing but this makes it easy.. Had it for about 4 yeas now no hassles..

It also has an anti calc element and a large water compartment that you just fill and continue.. No waiting!
-
That sounds like a good recommendation Kim. All the ironing you did from unpacking the container. :o
-
Yes and proud of myself that I did it all... Lol.. Got there in the end!!
-
I was just about to post a similar question....I've got a mountain of ironing....would a pressurised steam iron be worth it?
-
Jamberie the pressure steam irons are faster and get the creases out easier no need for fabulon etc
-
Jamberie I wouldn't be without my Laura star. It is my second one, the first one lasted around 10 years. We use it for ironing on delicate fabrics and steaming suits in between dry cleans. It is a LOT faster than a standard steam iron and that's important. I'm trembling thinking of the ironing once I'm back at work in a suit and shirt and the boys are in school. It would be horrific without my steam station.
-
Oh yes. ..I should have looked into Laura Star... I'm a bit impatient and bought a Tefal pressure steam for $179 which was a great deal. .... I've ironed three things so far and it is amazing!
-
That sounds like a great deal Jamberie!

Just bought a Phillips steam station this month. Doesn't even have a temp dial - it automatically varies the temp depending on the fabric you are ironing. Was very helpful getting through the 5 suitcases of clothes we had brought home the week before.

I just really can't believe how much time these things save! !!
I'm about to pick up an extra day at work and bought this to save a little bit of precious family time... so far (in the three hours I've had it), it's worth every cent :D

What's an iron? ;D
-
I don't associate much with mine either Gert but I did give DD2 a Russell Hobbs steam iron a few years back. I got sick of doing her ironing and thought it was time she started doing it herself :-)) This iron does make much lighter work of such a boring, endless job.

What's an iron? ;D
Like an i Pad but hotter Gert

I son't like the sound of it so I won't be buying one. ;D ;D

I don't know when the last time I ironed was.... hence buying a toy to make it more interesting :)
Not as interesting as an iPad though.
