Hi Fellow Thermie Users!!
I would like to ask if anyone has any suggestions on how to clean/get rid of stains/white spots at the bottom of the bowl? I know, with time, they will disappear, but I would just like to maybe have a clean, shiny bowl!!! I have tried a few "cleaning recipes" but it has not totally got rid of them!!
Second question - I made a really delish tomato ketchup the other day and it left stains on the mixing bowl lid, I did clean it straight after as I saw the stains and it has gone a bit, but some remains! I do not want to harm my Thermie, is there anything else I can do or should I just leave it??

You could try this method (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=13319.msg291656#msg291656) for cleaning your TM bowl.
Try a paste of bi-carb to see if that shifts the stains on our lid but they will eventually fade with repeated washings.Or pop it in the dishwasher to see if that helps.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, shall try it out! When you say a paste of bicarb, should I mix, say a teaspoon or two of bicarb with some water and then rub it in the bowl and onto the lid??? THANKS again xxxx

Yes you are correct.Just mixed the bicarb with a little water until you have a paste and start rubbing :D :D

Making this recipe has been known to leave your bowl really nice and shiny Doranne, give tha a try if nothing else is working. Just be sure to remove the contents immediately after the recipe is made and wash the bowl.

I was told recently to spray or wipe your lid with oil when you are going to make something that will stain (ie tomato sauce, anything with turmeric) and after cooking it should all wash off easily and shouldn't be stained.
I have not tried it as I'm not worried what the inside of my lid looks like.

Another tip I heard recently might work for stained lids. For a stained silicon spatula you can apparently put them (washed) on a sunny windowsill and let the sun take care of the stains.

Mixing bi carb and vinegar is a good trick. Shut the lid. And let it take off like a rocket. Nah it will clean but we used to make toy rockets in the bath with that combo making carbonic acid. Good fun. Gee I am old.

Sounds fun Gert. My poor Mum would have kittens every time I mixed a bit of carb soda with vinegar. I'm sure she thought I was going to blow her up. I would dearly have loved a chemistry set as a kid but it was not to be. :'( :'(

Me too cookie. I took chemistry and physics in school and we used to get up to a lot if mischief . I guess you could not do it these days. Probably are not allowed to use Bunsen burners and chemicals like the "old days". Pity! We had lots of fun and never hurt anyone too much.
Well we may have done some damage to school property but not in a big way and there might have been small critters involved and not of their own volition. The mixing of elements had certain rewards in a clandestine way perhaps. Ah, the good old days.

This is a secret Gert!
At boarding school the 2 of us doing chemistry and physics had access to the labs. We used to charge girls 2/- to coat a 1/- with mercury and make it all shiny. What we didn't know was that after a while the 1/- went black. We were in a little trouble as you can imagine. :D ;D :D

LOL! I doubt they would allow mercury these days but it was good fun. I used up a fair amount of platinum once and replaced my stick with someone else' sand he had to pay for his using so much. That fought him not to be so wasteful or perhaps not to leave it where someone else could steal it.

My bowl was looking decidedly dull and a bit brown on the inside along the indentations. I just put some rock salt and and whizzed away. Now I have a Bright and shiny bowl again.

clever gert, mine was too last week I had about six egg shells chucked them in the bowl gave it a wizz and sparkling like new

I was going to suggest rock salt as well :)
