Title: Reluctant cook
Post by: vanny on January 06, 2014, 09:50:50 am
Hi everybody,
I hate cooking. It is a chore I avoid at all costs and  only do it because I have kids that need to eat! So my kids were taken aback when I announced I was going to buy a Thermomix without having been to a party/ demonstration. I paid for it knowing it would be delivered  in time for when I got back from my holidays just before Xmas.
Well- I have not stopped cooking for 2 weeks! My consultant said I have cooked more in 2 weeks than she has in hers! I love love love it. I have made jams, breads, risottos, sorbets, valoutes, soups, gnocchi.... And on and on. Everything turns out perfectly- finally no more smell of burnt meals or disasters in the bin!
So if you are thinking about getting one and HATE cooking- I can highly recommend them lol! Be careful though- I am now inspired and have just ordered a gazzillion Tupperware containers to organise my pantry better. I have become an advocate for eating whole foods and tending toward becoming an organic hippy! I can now be found in health food shops buying Rapadura and Cacao wafers (what the?). A lovely sunny Sunday yesterday saw me asking stall holders at the local Farmers Market if they use pesticides/ fertilizer on their produce and asking the egg man how free range his chooks were and were they fed antibiotics?
I am waiting for my chocolate mousse to chill and spending time on here looking up recipes! Unheard of! Mcdonald's will be going broke!
I made Nesquik before work this morning (saved a few bucks before walking out the door) and am about to make my own dishaeashing tablets/ washing powder (save even more).
What a clever machine!
Look forward to interacting with everyone here and learning even more about this whizz bang machine. I love it  ;D

Vanny,  go for the stuff at the Farmers Markets.  They are about the stall holders answering questions about what they sell.   Also ask them a bout how people use their produce and then come on here and find a similar recipe.  Have fun.

Welcome Vanny,
What a great turn-around with your cooking.  I tell people that's one of the biggest bonuses for me too - the constant feeding of the family has gone from a boring chore to something I LOVE.  Sure, it's a big outlay, but that alone is worth every cent - let alone the savings on food we have made in the last year.   ;D

Looking forward to reading more about your cooking experiences.  :)
Enjoy that chocolate mousse.  ;)

You sound just like me Vanny, dreaded the daily chore of cooking. Have had my TMX for 2 years now and never looked back. Never used to bake, now I only eat home made bread and the kids always have home made goodies in their lunch boxes, and just this week I bought an icecream machine! (Beware the shopping thread ;)). I only wish I was home more often so I could cook more!

OMG I thought I was reading my own thoughts when I read your intro. I too have hated cooking for some time now. I have been to three demo's and decided to take up the interest free deal. Hubby didn't want to entertain the idea at all saying it would be just another contraption in the pantry.
Well I ignored him (so glad I did) and went ahead with it anyway. Its been a week now since Thermie was delivered and guess who has used it more than I have!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep the hubby!! So I have not had a chance to use it much (he has been on holidays from work and when I have gotten home has had something cooking) but I have made custard and tonight I made the Cashew chicken from the EDCB. Looking forward to sharing with you all.
cheers KA
