Title: TM31 oninternational flights

Hi all. I read the older info on flying with Thermomix but was advised to start a new topic as the previous was more than 120 days old. So, here's my question. I live in NZ but have just gained a three year position at a university in Ireland. I don't want to live for three years without my Thermomix (have looked at buying another over there but too pricey!) I will be flying Singapore Air and want to k ow if anybody has tsken one in hand luggage internationally on that or any other airline; whether it was in the official Thermomix carry bag which I've not bought yet; whether there were any issues. The previous forum advised one to pack the blades in stowed luggage.
Any advice forum readers could provide would be most welcome! :)

It's quite OK to still post in old threads fergpip.

Lots of our members take their TMX's on planes using the TMX carry bags but placing the blades in their suitcases.   

This is the official statement from Australia's HO.
Travelling with the Thermomix is fine to take in the carry bag as hand luggage as long as you pack the blades in your main luggage. The size of the carry bag should be within the requirements of most airlines but best to measure and check with your airline. It is only the blades that can't go on board.

Wow, I would have thought it was too big, but then I am often surprised at the suitcases that are okay for carry-on. Going to have to measure it up now just to prove it to myself! The bag was the extra offer when I bought mine.

I can certainly see why you would be taking it with you! I can't imagine leaving mine behind and take it even for short holidays, although never on the plane (yet).

Thanks Jo. We're Kiwis so we'll be back...but the opportunity to work in Ireland for the last three years of my working life is one I couldn't turn down! I'm currently thinking perhaps I'll fit the base of my Thermomix in my hand luggage (weights 5 lb without 'bits') and the rest in the cargo. The base bit is what I'm most worried about getting damaged, with the sensitive computer/scale parts in there. Wish me luck, will let Forum members know how I get on!

Congratulations on the job. I would do as you are and pack the bowl and blades well in my stowed luggage and keep the base as hand luggage.

It will be great to have a forum member relocate to the northern hemisphere fergpip.We are thin on the ground here posting regularly  :D :D :D
