I want to plant some herbs so they can be used in recipes, I have always been a jar/pkt person so far but I am waiting delivery of my thermomix & have noticed fresh seems to be used.
So what to plant? What would be the most popular herbs used?

Here in the UK I grow Bay,Mint,Flat Leaf Parsley,Curly Parsley,Rosemary,Sage,Chives and Thyme that I use regularly in my cooking. I buy fresh Basil and Coriander when I need it for a particular recipe.I do rely on dried herbs too ;D

I have exactly the same as CC but unfortunately my bay tree in a pot died. Luckily I dried a bunch before it carked it so I'm still using them. Apart from herbs I also like to grow my own spring onions, chilli and spinach - it's nice to just walk out to the patch and pick a few leaves etc.

The above mentioned by CC is my range too but I do put in basil and coriander and dill. Pesto with your own fresh basil is wonderful.

Depends a bit on where you live. We are in a cool climate so can grow all that CC grows plus coriander . There is nothing nicer than adding fresh chives and parsley to a pot of fresh TMX veggie soup.
Also good to have the herbs near where you can easily get them.

Similar to what's been mentioned above parsley, thyme, rosemary, sage, basil and coriander (which is a must if you love the EDC beetroot salad).

Thanks for the advice.
Today I got flat parsley, rosemary, basil & oregano, my next challenge will be to keep them alive. Lol. Living plants usually don't succeed in my house. :o
-
Good luck with them Chelle, just remember to water them ;D

Chelle if you like curries, a curry tree is a must for fresh curry leaves. I have mine in a large pot standing in my herb garden. They live the heat,so do well in Perth.
I use a lot of mint, especially in Summer in salads and dressings. So easy to grow.
Good luck with your new Thermo and herbs.

I'm a hopeless gardener but have mint, parsley, safe, thyme, basil, chilli and oregano. The oregano took over the garden

Katj I've recently planted a curry plant too. What's the best way to use the leaves?
We have oregano, parsley, coriander, rocket, spinach, chives, lime basil, rosemary, chilli and choc mint. Another one I'm not sure how best to use.

INAID, I'm no gardener. My plants exist based on survival of the fittest 😁 but I do have a curry leaf plant.
I use the leaves in certain curries and some stir fried dishes eg the Golden Fragrant Chicken 😃

I am pleased with how my herbs are going with very little attention. My parsley and basil went to seed last year so I sprinkled the seeds in a garden bed and now have many of both. Also have sage, oregano, chives, rosemary and thyme. I keep looking for a curry tree must be the wrong time.
