Title: TMX Australia is up for a "Shonky" Award
Post by: Cuilidh on October 14, 2014, 03:02:21 am
Moderators, if you feel this subject has run it's course, please remove this.

I read today that thermomix / Vorwerk have broken the record for the number of nominations for a Choice magazine Shonky award (http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/home/thermomix-awarded-a-choice-shonky-for-shredding-public-trust/story-fnet0iz7-1227089873975) ... now, I wonder why that might be.

Yep, I got that in an email from Choice today..... :-)) :-)) :)

" Last but not least, Vorwerk, makers of the cult all-in-one mixer the Thermomix, took out an award for their choppy communication around the launch of a new model that saw loyal 'Thermo' fans lose hundreds of dollars off the resale value of their now-superseded machines – practically overnight.

And they dealt with it beautifully on their FB page. "As the old saying goes: When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. We have previously been fortunate enough to be named the Best Overall Performer by Choice, but we have also just been given a Shonky Award for the launch of the new TM5.

We understand the reaction of some of our customers who were disappointed with the launch of our new model. While we have received a Shonky Award for the launch, rest assured if you have a TM31, it was also awarded the Best Overall Performer by Choice as well as receiving other top international awards, so you still own a great, award winning appliance.

We are working hard to win back the support of all of our customers and hope we will again be voted a Top Scorer in the Choice Test in the future. Please enjoy this recipe for Thermomix lemonade > http://bit.ly/1sDsGPH

Check back in later to see some other lemon inspired recipes."

Well done Thermomix Australia.

Its not the machine that is the problem.

The new machine may not have problems but by looking at the burns one woman got from a faulty machine/seal from the TM31
At the end of the day TM Australia don't care as the new machines are flying out the door as long as they are racking in the money they won't care about unhappy customers & the bad publicity has not stopped people buying. At the end of the day we have all read the bad press but still buy & support such a company glossing it over with 'but they are such a great product' who care how they are treating their customers or how poor the service is

Not sticking up for them, but I think this is a little harsh from Choice to have this award.  Choice reviews were considered the god spoken word for thoroughly trialling and researching given products not handing out trivial gongs. There are many business's and people out there who blatantly rip people off from $1 to $1M's and have stripped vulnerable people of their life savings which is not the case for Thermomix. Its hard to draw the line in the sand because people always want to flount it saying if you just moved it over a little towards me, then its not going to be as bad. There would be no pleasing anybody. But yes, there were aspects that they could have handled better, and those who are left with a TM31 have an excellent machine with a well proven track record.

None of this would have happened if HO had not blatantly lied when asked a direct question as to whether  there would be a new Thermomix in the imminent future. They already had it in stock while telling people they had no knowledge .  That is where they failed and why there were so many nominations for the Shonky business ethics.

If you tell porkies you will be caught. It is an insult and people are rightly angry.
