Title: Inaccurate Scales?
Post by: past94x on November 14, 2014, 06:36:28 pm
My beloved TM is coming up to 3 years old and I'm still in love with it and use it almost every day, sometimes several times a day.
However, I have noticed today that it's scales are under reading. i.e. 220g on my kitchen scales weigh only 190g on the TM. I thought maybe my kitchen scales were at fault, but I weighed a pack of butter and it is definitely the TM scales at fault.
Is there anything I can do please?

Have you checked the TM's feet? There might be something wedged underneath them. Is the cable fully extended and not touching anything?

I always weigh my MC before commencing a recipe - it should weigh between 25-30g.

I've never thought of that CP! Sometimes I'll pre-weigh on my other scales other times using the TM if it's something you pour in right away. Im a little iffy with the TM scales because you could get different results depending on how the power cord is sitting.

A few weeks ago mine was wonky with its weighing. I turned it on its side and gave the legs a good firm wipe over. It was fine then.

Mine can be iffy at times too so I usually use my digital scales as they are always accurate - had them for donkey's years.

I do the same ad JD and put the thermomix bowl onto my digital scales if I want a really accurate weigh in.
I also weigh the MC before using the scales when the need for accuracy is less.

Thanks so very much ladies. I had completely forgotten about the feet and the importance of keeping them clean. Of course, after being reminded by you all, I gently turned the TM on it's side and, lo and behold, it's feet were grubby, to say the least (what an admission to have to make). Anyway, I cleaned them and, you're right, the scales are fine again. Thanks again so much.
I still cannot believe how much I love my TM - just made Tenina's citrus curd, and it's fabulous. So much so that I am going to make loads and put it in pretty little jars, and give them to my foodie friends for Christmas!

So pleased to hear that your scales are fine now Audrey. ;D
Citrus curd is always a wonderful gift to make for friends.
