Title: Newbie help :)
Post by: Caroline J on September 08, 2009, 02:34:13 pm
Hi everyone
My TM is getting delivered tomorrow!  I only ordered last Thursday, so I am pretty happy with the turn around :).  Now, my question is, experienced users...what should I make first?  Is there any fabulous recipes in the cookbook I should try as a priority?  I really want the first things I make to be super yummy so my husband agrees it was an excellent purchase :D.

Thanks!

The first thing I made was bread.  I had never made bread at home before because I just couldnt be bothered with all that kneading etc.   But I have never seen a loaf of bread made so quickly in my life.  About 2 minutes after it came out of the oven my husband ate about half the loaf and then later on that night when he was hungry again I whipped up the Lemon Custard in a matter of minutes and he asked how much custard powder was in it LOL........  he didnt believe me when I said it was made from scratch.

Go with the basic bread and home made butter for starters and one of the yummy  easy desserts.  You can then tell him how cheap the bread is compared to what is on the shelf in the supermarkets. When you can get marked down  cream of any kind make the ice cream. Costs practically nothing compared to $7 a litre or more for the good stuff! Good luck and have fun.

As per the pp's.  I always keep an eye out for reduced cream to make icecream, yesterday I got some for $1.23 and used low fat milk to make yummo icecream.

Custard is a great starter, as is stock concentrate.  Juice - or lemonade.  Icing sugar.  Oh gee, the list is endless.  Sorbet, risotto.  Have fun!

Caroline J once you get started on all the lovely things the TMX can make you won't stop. Thank goodness I'm retired as I hardly ever leave the kitchen-I love trying all these new ideas I read on here.
Good luck and let us know how it all goes.

What is his favourite meal now?  especially to eat out?  Can we do something to show how quick and easy it is?

Something to think about - the naan bread http://cravepublishing.com/steamovencooking/2008/06/na-na-naan/ (http://cravepublishing.com/steamovencooking/2008/06/na-na-naan/) - there is a recipe on the calendar and on the forum - nut this is the original.

Then maybe do a chicken curry - put it into the Varoma and keep it warm while cooking the rice in the basket.

or Quirky Jo's fried rice http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2009-08-20T18%3A43%3A00%2B10%3A00&max-results=7 (http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2009-08-20T18%3A43%3A00%2B10%3A00&max-results=7)

Custard is great, so many flavour options and really easy.
I love making anything which usually requires constant stirring like cheese sauce.  So Mornay, Lasagna, Macaroni Cheese.
Porridge is great as again, I used to be attached to the stove for 10 minutes or so, and now I'm not.

Tonight I'm trying the meatloaf recipe as I've heard it is fantastic!

Have fun

The butter chicken from the EDC is lovely and combines well with the naan bread from the calendar!  Perhaps followed up with a yummy sorbet or easy ice-cream (with frozen milk cubes and frozen fruit).  :)

Thanks for all the suggestions :)  I made choc banana custard with my demonstrator when she dropped it off.  Then I chose Ralo's failsafe chicken risotto as I had all the ingredients.  It went pretty well, and was so easy!

Hmmm, Butter Chicken tomorrow night, methinks....

The butter chicken is one of our favourites too - very easy.
