Title: Does anyone else find it strange that.......
Post by: Meagan on September 20, 2009, 04:57:47 am
There  are no 'serves x' or 'makes x' details in the EDC? I know it says with the milk frothing add 100gm for each additional cup. It just seems strange to me...anyone else?

i think someone said that they are all supposed to feed the same amount (4? 6?) but i think that's wishful thinking ;) perhaps check the front of the book?

Guess so Meagan, however, I made the "Melting Chocolate Pudding" from the Budget Busters book last night which said it made 8 - not in my world sister!!!  I must have extremely large ramekins but I only got 3 out of it!!!! (Although it was so rich that 1/3 of one would have sufficed.  Naturally I soldiered through it bravely - could this be why I have 13kg to lose????).  8)

I thought that it said something in the book about being for 4 people, but checked the front of the book and not there??

Need to contact Tenina and Mandy - like they have nothing else to do

LOL - maybe we need to specify the size of our ramekins?

I guess I was thinking for the drinks it would be good to get an idea of how much to use for one drink IYKWIM?

Not being picky or anything just thought it was wierd given that is the standard thing in most books

LOL no thermomixer (breast feeding at the mo!! :-)) ) I meant so I could get an idea of quantities if I want to do my own version of a drink.

Also looking at the biscuit recipes there is no - makes 30 or whatever amount. And i know that everyone will make their bisuits a different size but it is good for a general idea don't you think??

Actually Meagan I find most recipes never make my idea of 'x' quantity,  I always have too much or not enough!!

I must agree, though with only 3 of us to feed I have become quite good at looking at all recipes and deciding if I need to only make ½. There are still the times when we have enough to feed an army or someone gets fed from the freezer as there's not enough.

i've been saying for a while that recipes (including ours here on the forum) need to be more specific about sizes of things - for example do you dice chicken into 1cm dice or 3cm dice? makes a huge difference in cooking times...

most recipes are lacking that sort of information.

I totally agree with all that has been said above.  A recipe is supposed to state how many serves, how many cookies, how many drinks, particularly printed recipe books. I even like it when they tell you how many carbs, calories etc but it would be going a bit too far to expect too much too soon :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))  Perhaps when we post a recipe of our own, in future we can make sure we put all the details that we possibly can in them.

Will need to be better with my recipes - see how we go.

i'm not really complaining about people on here thermomixer, i know how hard it is to think of all that stuff when you're first writing it up - it came to mind with me when i was trying to work out the problem with my butter chicken disintegrating! but i have also had the problem with many of the recipes from the books - dh tends to chop small and so everything goes to mush, i tend to chop big so i always have to cook significantly longer than stated times. size is crucial IMO.

so please no one feel picked on!

Not feeling picked on - just makes good sense - if people are happy to try my recipes then best I don't have them waste their money  (think about the difference b/n breast and thigh for the chicken nuggets !!)

i complained about the same thing to HQ months and months ago and was told that in the new edition of the EDC and any other booklets produced they were hoping to rectify the problem...obviously not!
