Title: WHICH BREAD RECIPE FOR A FIRST TIMER????
Post by: Dublin Girl in Oz on September 29, 2009, 12:00:47 pm
Hi All

I only have my Thermomix about 12 days!  I have yet to try a bread recipe - which one would you suggest for a beginner?  I have bread tins from when I used to make bread with No Knead products and I'd like to make two loaves at once since the oven is on and I have two tins - is that possible in the machine - or would it overload?

Cheers,  Sylvia - Melbourne :)

Sylvia

I use the Basic Bread recipe in EDC religiously.  Easy and makes a nice loaf.

Tips
Warm water makes a big difference to the rising.
I always rise my bread in the oven at 50deg for 15 minutes.  While first loaf is in the oven rising I make 2nd batch of dough, and then add to the oven to rise.
I've never "brushed with water" as the top is crusty enough.

Forgot to mention a recent tip I found somewhere on this forum - thanks to  :-\ I can't remember who!

When milling the grain, take out the measuring cup and cover the whole with a thick piece of paper (I guess cardboard would even be better.  Hold it down firmly while milling the grain.

This way you won't have a "flour storm" in your kitchen.

Try the TM31 bread - simple enough and make 1 & 1/2 times the amount and let it rise in the tins in a warm place rather than sticking straight into the oven.  I prefer when the bread goes straight into the hot oven method.

I've put off trying this recipe because of the grain needed as I don't have a grain supplier close buy.  Can someone let me know if I can just replace the same amount of grain with already milled flour?

Definitely - most bread is very forgiving.
