Title: Vibrating machine
Post by: grandma on October 01, 2009, 01:39:37 pm
Boy, I was quite shocked to see how much the machine vibrated (well it actually moved right along the bench top!!) while kneading the bread dough.  Not really complaining, but just a bit 'or moy gord' type of feeling!!

They warn you about that and suggest you don't leave it alone whilst kneading bread grandma.  Now you can see why ??? ??? ???  I have had my DH sit and watch mine if I want to duck off for a couple of minutes.

Really?  Were the feet and counter clean?  If they have flour on them, or are wet, it will jump around, but I make sure mine are nice and clean and it doesn't move much at all.  If anything, it just backs up a little.  I do a double batch of bread in one go, and it doesn't seem to hop around around too much.  But if you're worried, just put your hand on it to steady it while it's mixing.

As the dough forms into a ball during the kneading process it can unbalance the tmx. It varies each time for me as to how much it moves. Always safer to stay with it for kneading - and thats only 2-3 mins so shouldn't be an issue.

Ok, will make sure never to leave it when kneading - but also good to know that I can make two batches at one time - so thanks for that quirkycooking. :)

Hi!

That is so important: never leave it alone while kneading! If I do anything in the kitchen while kneading bread, I put a large plastic bowl in front of it. If the TM should move too much, the bowl will fall down first. That gives me time to react. But still I watch closely.

Here's my recipe for a double batch - I use spelt, but you could change it to wheat if you like, just use a little more water.  :)

What a great idea Susanne

Good idea indeed - but mine is on an island bench, so bowls all round.

Another vibrating machine thing- it will vibrate and make a funny noise sometimes if you have the basket in the bowl and it's not clicked right into position.

And another...

When you don't put the butterfly in well enough when doing mashed potato the EDC way (1kg cubes + 1 cup milk using butterfly 100 degrees speed 1) and it works its way up!

You then have to tip everything out to get the butterfly back in again.

Another one:

funny noise when you store the MC in the pot, forget about it and try to make Ice Cream... ;D.

(It only has a few more scratches now)

Another reason why I like the 5 seed bread recipe.. the TMX doesn't try to "walk off"! :)

Think a few MCs have suffered like this !!

I sit mine on the lid (not in the hole) and when I go to DD's place, if hers is in place, I take it out and put it where I think it should be so that the bowl can air.  I do the same with people's toilet rolls if they are put on incorrectly - do I have a problem ??? ??? ???

I put mine in the steamer basket inside the bowl !!

I don't think you have a problem if you make sure the paper rolls from over the top JD  ;)

Too easy. Try concertina style then bend it the middle.  ;D ;D ;D ;D Works a treat.

You'll have to put a photo up of that one Gretchen, tried it but didn't work for me.

Got me there Judy. I tried it but our toilet paper is too soft. Last time I saw it was a tiny hotel in Songkhla Thailand. :o

When the machine works this hard i.e. kneads you should not leave it out of sight. BTW the scales of the machine are actually in the feet of the machine, so do not do as I did and place the machine on a towl it alters the weight of the ingredients.

hehe I did this too inkha and couldn't figure out why the ingredients were not looking to be the weight they said they were.  At least I only wasted one lot of flour and butter before working it out!

Anything under the machine or even touching the edge of it will upset the scales. It can make for some interesting weights.

And has anyone herd of the base welding it's self to the machine when you don't put the blades in properly???? My GL had just told me about this happening to a customer and I couldn't beleive it - then my mother rang me up and she'd just done it!!!  :o

Argh! Glad mine didn't do that!

Completely OT but DH Came into the lounge earlier and informed me that we had no toilet paper and that he'd had to use hand paper towel (poor diddums!).  He then rather sarcastically asked if we would be buying some more toilet paper or was I planning on making it in the tmx!!!!

Hmmm now there's a thought!

LOL

Yes ok Faffa - I'll put an explanation in there now.
Snoozie great to see you off and running even after that hiccup - that same thing happened to me (with out the power flicking) and it kept me down bout half a day! I have heard of a lady that chops up and puts old material (clothes) in the food processor to make paper - have to find that recipe! Is hubby a little jealous of all the time your spending with your 'new boy'?? Get him to have his own favourite recipes in the TMX even if it's just frothing the milk for coffee's and he'll soon be just as enthusiastic as you.  ;)

Thanks Nay, I just read it. Wow I think I will give everyone in the house another lesson just to be sure - even after 18 months of using it as that is when you can also become a little complacent  ;)

That happend to me recently!!! Could not believe that I couldn't get the bottom to come off for washing. It was absolutely glued/melted onto the stainless steel body! Had to have a replacemente posted. And that after 2 and a half years of using the bimby every single day

Well not without merit - certainly it would blitz up the paper and water mix needed to make handmade paper - that's something that nobody has listed yet.  It would be great for that task.  Ask him what strength/colour he would like  ;D ;D

hahahah I might wait a few weeks... he doesn't have much of a sense of humour lately!!!  Especially given that our oven is broken.  BLAH!

Guess I need to suck it up and call an electrician.

I have heard of a lady that chops up and puts old material (clothes) in the food processor to make paper - have to find that recipe!

There was a program with Stephen Fry recently about the first printing presses and how they used old cloth to make paper.  I visited one of the original (and still functional) paper mills in italy - a link to how to select rags for paper-making http://www.museodellacarta.com/docs/museo/lagualchieramedievale.asp (http://www.museodellacarta.com/docs/museo/lagualchieramedievale.asp)

Never mind Snoozie - I am sure all will be well in a few weeks, when your infatuation and idolatry has subsided  ;) ;)

Wish Sook would go to sleep so I can steal some icecream though! LOL!
