EDC book
I made two lots of mix. Put the first in the greased 8" square pan and saw that it wasn't very much, so made the next and added it. Cooked at 180 for 40 minutes FF.
Changes I made:
Dairy Soft instead of butter and didn't melt it as it was soft.
Mixed for 30 seconds speed 5, then 1 minute speed 3 (just so sugar dissolves)
5/5 for texture and taste.

I've tried to make this pic small, but it still comes out huge!
-
Oh, no it doesn't!! Finally, the small picture came up!
-
One lot of mixture certainly doesn't make a big cake but was enough for the 2 of us when I did it. If you are going to make a cake though, you might as well make a decent sized one. Looks good to me.
-
This would be good for an easy muffin mix too. Could easily add some choc chips to it as well.
-
Nice one MJ - good to see you conquering the photos too :-*

I wish I had read your post meganjane, before I baked it.
It looked like the saddest, smallest chocolate cake that I had ever seen .LOL.
Absolutely needs to be double quantity.
I decided to drizzle ganache over it, and used toblerone chocolate......yummy :P

What a lovely disguise Maddy, I'll bet it tasted nice.

Thanks Maddy - I wish that I could remember half of what I have read - lucky for the search facility ;D

I just made a double quantity of this and put it in the oven wondering for how long and here is the answer right here!! I love this forum! :)

I have made this one twice now. 1st time in normal quantity which was perfect for coffee with friends. 2nd time I doubled the quantity as we were feeding a few more, I did forget to put the baking powder in but it turned out great anyway ;)

Our favourite quick chocolate cake is Cyndi O'Meara's one in "Changing Habits, Changing Lives" cookbook - it has oil instead of butter (I use macadamia or grapeseed)... I also use rice-almond milk and spelt flour, but the usual recipe is nice too. It's very moist. Oh, and I add a bit more cocoa. ;)
-
I made two of these, in 8" round tins.
I cut e domed tops off, sandwiched e two "top to top" with cream that had choc ganache swirled through it, then poured choc ganache over the top until it drizzled all down he sides
This was my mother in-law's birthday cake. She thought it was delicious!
The mix may not make a huge cake, but it's tasty and moist and you don't always want a large cake.
5/5 in my books :)

i made a double batch of this yesterday as i was baking a number 3 cake for ds ! so i did two ring tins
i used butter made in the thermomix plus a little oil to make up the amount ( i just ran short on butter :( )

lets see if that link works ??....
anyhow i give the cake 5/5 for taste , easy and all ingredients are staples that are always in the cupboard !! everyone should try this recipe if they haven't already !!!!!!!

Made this recipe today. Yes, the cake is small but perfect for DH and DD. I'll try a smaller tin next time. DD enjoyed for afternoon tea, warm from the oven.
This is the first cake I've made in my thermomix. Got me wondering - do I need to be sifting the dry ingredients together before putting in or does the mixing action of the machine do that? I can't see any of the recipes in the EDC mention sifting ???
5/5

I always sift in the dry ingredients. I think that ILB's Bimby Cake (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=1097.0) is better than this one if you want a big cake.
-
I liked it :) Nothing special, but a good cake for the kids after school.
-
Great cake made in ring tin as per recipe and it turned out perfect. Served it as a quick dessert smothered in a warm chocolate sauce. Size is not big but served us four (DH, DS5 and DS3) with some leftovers, which i accidentally finished off at lunch the next day! 5/5 for me.
-
In the oven now, doubled the recipe. Will serve it warm with cream.

I made this one yesterday using White Wings Gluten Free flour (my brother is coeliac), you wouldn't have guessed it was gf! What a great no fuss cake! I also added a tbsp of oillar box red colour to make it a red-velvet style.
We had ours with ice cream yum!

That sounds awesome!! Just wondering if you used the normal liquid food colouring (from grocery stores) or some special type (like the gels you get from cake speciality shops) to get the rich red colour? I want to try this out soon and not sure if I need to buy a different food colouring to the one I've already got.
-
JTW, I used the supermarket liquid 'Pillarbox Red', just because I had it already in the cupboard and it was fine, not a super rich red, but it was certainly red, other people would know better than me though! There are some real experts here :)
-
thanks Jamberie, will have to give it a go!

I made this cake a few times with these variations:
- double the quantity
- only 150gm sugar
- ganache icing
I also forgot to melt the butter last time and it worked just fine. I just mixed it for 1 minute instead of 30 seconds.
-
I'm glad it still worked out.
-
I'm a newbie, so I followed the recipe exactly, except for using dutch cocoa. Put in 8" square tin & baked 30 mins @ 180 conventional (no fan). Worked perfectly. May not be the tallest cake in the world, but was light & delicious, chocolatey and ridiculously quick to make. Didn't have time to bother with frosting, so a sprinkle of icing sugar, some soft whipped cream and chocolate curls. Everyone loved it.
