Was wondering where Judy is? Haven't heard from her in a little while. I miss her posts.
Hope she's away on hols and not sick. ???
-
Me too Julie, I miss her comments. I know they were going away in December on a cruise. One of her lasts posts said she wasn't feeling the best. I've sent her a couple of emails so hopefully everything is ok. If I hear I'll let you know. It's funny how you can feel as though you are friends with someone you have never met, via a few emails.
-
I miss JD too. I hope all is well.
-
Judy where are you my friend?
Gretchen
-
Hope all is well - maybe one of the fellow crow-eaters can enlighten us?
-
Hi All,
I wasn't sure if I should post anything but have spoken to Judy and she's given her OK.
About a week or so ago JD had a severe hemmorage in her bowel and was rushed to hospital where she has spent some time in ICU and had surgery. It turns out that she has a leision in her bowel, at this stage she doesn't know how serious this is. JD is due to go home tomorrow. Geoff is spending some time in an aged care facility and will continue to do so for a month to allow Judy to recover.
The holiday has been called off as she won't be up to all the physical demands of moving luggage and helping Geoff.
It sounds like Judy has a really good support network around her to help her through all of this.
As we'd expect, she's missing the forum and all of her friends here so is eager to get back on line and catch up with everyone - just as we all miss her!!!! :'( :-* :-*
I'm sure you will all join me in wishing Judy a speedy recovery, good news from the specialists and lots of love!!! :-*
-
Thanks ILB - sent her an email - but guess now I know why she hasn't responded.
Good luck JD - we're thinking of you :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks so much ILB for letting us know.
Rest up and get well soon JD!! We're all thinking of you xx

I have just spoken to Judy and, as Joelene says, she is keen to get back online!
She is feeling stronger and brighter this afternoon and is looking forward to getting home.
I'm sure that we will be hearing from her just as soon as she can sit up at her comp!
-
Can't wait to see you up and around the boards again JD. Hope you get back to feeling better than ever soon!
-

Oh - am so sorry to hear that your not well but hope you'll be back at your TMX and computer real soon Judy Dawn. :-* :-* :-*
-
I have just spoken to Judy. She wanted to pass onto you all her regards and thanks for all your messages. As she is still experiencing quite a bit of pain they have decided to keep her in hospital a little longer. Judy said that she is actually ënjoying"the rest from her carer duties !!!!!!
Trudy
-
Thank you Trudy for the update :-*
I spoke with her yesterday and was concerned about her going home today given what she was going through.
-
You never quite rest as much as you should when you get home from hospital. She's in the best place. Thanks for the updates. :)
-
Thanks for the updates. I'll give her a call next week if she is home and let you know how she is.
We're all thinking of you Judy.
-
Thanks for keeping us informed Trudy
-
Thinking of you JD! Get lots of rest! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Wishing you a quick recovery Judy. All the best
Regards
Barbara
-
Judy just do as your told and stay in the hospital as long as you can. Have someone bring your Bimby in so you can get some good food!
Gretchen
-
ROFL ;D ;D ;D
-
Gretchen, You hit the nail on the head about food. Judy told me the food she has been getting is just terriable. Her daughter brought her in some chicken soup a couple of days ago and she just loved it.
Trudy
-
When my daughter was in hospital recently having part of her bowel removed due to Crohns disease I brought her the diet of clear fluids followed by full fluids all done in the TMX in a flask. She was ever so grateful because it had some flavour and some nutrition including protein which the hospital diet had very little.
I hope Judy has someone who will look after her nutrition as it i so important after this sort of surgery. Any surgery really. Sometimes you have to confront the system head on, says a nurse of many years experience. There is nothing wrong with taking over and doing what YOU know is right. The nurses on the ward have enough to deal with without worrying about what the idiot surgeons think about diet. There is a prescribed program of dealing with diet in bowel surgery. What goes into this diet is a matter of cost to the hospital. Shame on them I say. You can puree just about anything cooked or raw that is suitable and tastes good.
The stock concentrate is a good thing as you can bring small amounts into the hospital and just pop it into the tepid water they bring with the crap teabag.
Oh dear you got me started.
Gretchen
-
Yes but a soapbox that is sometimes needed.....just make sure you leave room for Cookie1 to get up there with you Gretchen ;)
From memory I think JD's daughter also has a TMX so hopefully she will be looking after her diet for her
-
Hey, what is this with me and my soapbox (oh dear, someone has nicked it). You are so right Gretchen. I'm not a nurse but DD is a pharmacist i n a hospital and the nurses are running round trying to do so much. Kathryn, i'm sure you're right about Judy's daughter and the TMX as Judy uses it when she is minding the grandchildren.
-
Sending speedy healing vibes to JD!! :-*

As a mum of a teenager who is just 5 years in remission from cancer (8 years after his diagnosis), I had to learn this the hard way... but I make sure I pass this info on at every opportunity Gretchen. ;)
-
You bet ceejay. I am a cancer survivor 11 years on. Best wishes to you and your son. We need Bravery, Bravado and Balls to beat cancer.
We also need common sense to deal with any disease. The principals are all there and everyone can practice basic nursing. It is the system that needs changing. It is not always about the money but it is about listening.
I think cookie1 needs a bigger soapbox for all of us .
Gretchen
-
Bravo to you Gretchen and to your son ceejay!
My mum battled breast cancer at 65 and lived to 81. She had also previously survived Hodgkins disease (generally terminal) which she contracted when I was 2.
So, it can be done!!
-
Just spoke to Judy who has just arrived home from hospital. It's going to be a scorcher( high 30C's) week here in Adelaide so I'm sure all she will want to do is just sit around which is what she needs. Great that she's home and I'm sure we will hear from her very soon!!~!
-
How wonderful. Easy does it Judy. Thanks trudy.
Gretchen
-
Excellent news! Rest up Judy and keep cool. (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-sleep013.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

Thanks trudy - hope she's got aircon. :o :o
-
Welcome home Judy. We're all thinking of you. I will even make sure there is room on the soapbox for you!!! ;D ;D
-
Welcome home Judy. Take care
-
Welcome home... xx
-
Make sure you rest Judy :-* :-* Glad to hear you are home!!! :)
-
I haven't been on here for a few days - the things you miss!
So sorry to hear this JD - hope you continue to recover fully and quickly.
-
Hello everyone (gosh it's even hard to type) thank you for all your good wishes and thoughts. I will wade through them all as I get more energy but I'm not really looking much better than when I went in. Guess it will take time and I have Geoff in respite until 1st December so it's just me I have to care for at the moment. Eating a little now but just basic stuff you crave when you have been in hospital. Just vegging out in the recliner in front of TV. Miss you all. xx Judy
-
So good to hear from you. We missed you so much. Now recover, and look after yourself. Looking forward to seeing you back in full swing very soon
XX
-
Glad you are home Judy, nothing like you own bed and PROPER food to help you recover. I think you realise how much you have to recover from the sounds of your first post so please look after yourself as we have all really missed you ;D
-
Hi Judy, so pleased to see you home again!
I'm sure that you are keen to get back in the saddle, but taking it quietly for a while is the best way to go! :)
-
Oh Judy- it was nice to see a post from you. Glad you are home & have a while to look after "just you". Take care
-
Take care Judy and DON'T over do it. :-* :-* :-*
-
Hi JD - only time to jump on and wish you the best with recovery - take care - thinking of you. :-* :-* :-*
-
Good to hear from you JD. It sounds as if it's been a worrying time for you and I echo what everyone else has said - take time to get better and make sure you look after yourself (and let others look after you too!)
It's amazing how tiring coming out of hospital can be - just make sure you don't overdo it and don't feel under any pressure to get back on here until you're ready to do so. Even getting on the computer can sap your energy levels :D
-
Just back after and absence - hope all's well JD :-* :-* :-*
-
More speedy healing to you JD! :-*
-
Aww JudyDawn!
I've been somewhat 'out of the loop' for the past few weeks and am just now catching up on your condition. Poor you for all the suffering, but I am glad you are getting better, and getting support. We never want to believe it will take us as long as "they say" to recover, but if we accept this fact, we do end up with a better result in the end.
As the principal care-giver for a child with special needs, I was very comforted to read that you are getting respite. Breathe, think about the good things, drink water, and rest, rest, rest.
Big hugs to you dear new friend from Down Under. Hope to see you active again as soon as you are ready!
Cheers,
TMB

Update for all those who know what is going on down here. Geoff today was taken out of his room of 4 men (who scream and snore all night) and finally given a private room in the nursing home today. He rang me and he sounded so much better. Happy days, now I can stop worrying about his mental state. With only 2 weeks to go until he comes home, I'm sure things will now look up for him. I'm doing really well and finally had a good night's sleep until some 'lovely' woman dialled the wrong number at 7.10am this morning and woke me. arggggggggggggggg Back when there is more to report. :-* :-* :-*
-
Rest up and not too much time on here !!! We'll take care of most of it - no more 5 stars for a while (I checked)
-
Thanks for the update Judy. Keep on resting.
-
Well done Judy. Geoff will be able to get some sleep now.
Gretchen
-
Good to hear that you're picking up Judy, and I'm sure you'll now rest easier, now that Geoff has settled. (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-hug005.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
Julie.
-
Good news about Geoff. You will rest easier now that he is happier. xxxx
-
Glad to hear all is going well. Rest up JD! :)
-
That's great news JD! Now you can concentrate on getting YOU better and well rested.

That's great news JD! Now you can concentrate on getting YOU better and well rested.

Well today it is 3 weeks since my op and I decided it was finally time to get out of my pj's and get dressed for the first time. The heat has gone, the house is all opened up and cool again and I am feeling great, well almost great ;) ;) I defrosted my small freezer (a very quick job with the aid of a baking dish full of boiling water) found a homemade pasty and 1 slice of apricot slice so that is what I had for lunch instead of the planned sandwich. Can do a few odd jobs now without tiring. Have booked tickets to see Andrew Rieu's concert in Oct 2010 as I missed out on his recent one here and had to give my tickets away. Hopefully, we will be able to make the next one. Geoff is sounding better than he has in ages and is coming home again tomorrow to visit me. I am even planning to convert & cook a one pot meal for him so things are looking up. Once you start thinking of food, you are well on the road to recovery. Thanks for listening my friends. xx Judy
-
Judy, so good to hear. :D I've been able to tell in some of you recent posts that you are feeling better, excellent news! (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-happy110.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
-
Sounds like you have "turned the corner" JD. great news :-* :-*
-
Easy does it JD - what's this cleaning out the freezer business - easy does it or you'll split the wound!
-
You take it easy still Judy. Next time use a hairdryer to defrost. Not a good idea carrying boiling water. We are thinking of you and Geoff.
Gretchen
-
I'm pleased you are improving Judy. Don't over do it. :-* :-*
-
I'd noticed you starting to post again, and thought it was a good sign :D I'm thrilled to hear you're feeling so much better. Don't overdo it, though.
:-* :-*
-
Pleased to hear that you are feeling better, but only one step at a time JD, no rushing eh!
-
Today was my first shopping trip since the op. Got dropped off and picked up 3-1/2 hours later. Had a list of things as long as my arm, mostly food or stationery related. I now have the goodies to be able to make ginger & pecan slice, passata, plum jam and then the worcestershire sauce, Val's yoghurt, sweet chilli sauce, low fat white choc panna cotta with peach jelly. Too tired now to start but tomorrow I hope to get quite a lot of things done - how I would love to have 2 TMX's. Then on Thursday it's off to the hospital for the final results so I will report back later that day.
-
I trust it will all be good news Judy. :-*
and I look forward to reading your review on all you make. :D
-
I'll be thinking of you Thursday. :-* :-*
-
Me too.
-
Wow Judy - I'm exhausted just thinking about all you've done and all you've got to do. You must be heaps better to survive a 3.5 hr shopping trip :)
Will think positive thoughts for you on Thursday (although becauise of the time difference I may well have to do so in my sleep :D)
-
Great news to hear you are up and about. Best wishes for Thursday. We'll all be thinking of you.
Admin :-)
-
Thinking of you JD! :-* :-* :-*
-
all the best for tomorrow JD. hope it's all good news
-
A bit slow - good luck today :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Hi everyone, well it is all good news for me - no nasties to deal with thank goodness. However, called into see Geoff on the way to the hospital and he looks dreadful. Has an obvious chest infection (never gets these), was cold then hot, has lost muscle tone in his arms and back. Asked them to call in the doctor but will they take any notice of me this time. Just rang to see if he had been but no, not yet. Lost my cool and told them the way he is going, he won't be alive to come home on Tuesday. What does it take to get the doctor to visit. My daughter-in-law has offered to come down tomorrow and take him to the nearby hospital if the doctor doesn't come in sometime tonight. I am beside myself with worry - he was quite well when he went in there and to see him now, it breaks my heart.
-
Firstly Judy, I am thrilled with your news. But, poor Geoff. I think for your peace of mind and his well being the sooner he sees a doctor the better. Thank goodness for your DIL. Take up her offer if he hasn't seen a doctor.
I am sending cheering thoughts to you and Geoff. :-* :-* :-*
-
Great news for you JD. Sorry to hear your DH is not well. I agree with Cookie1- take your DIL up on her offer & get him to the Dr.
-
As cookie1 says - thrilled for you, but the stress on you with Geoff's condition is terrible.
I know only too well with MrsT's work that it can be really difficult to get through to staff in some facilities. MrsT is always getting doctors in and sending residents off as soon as they start to show the most minor signs. It is hard to recover once they get pneumonia.
Not sure that I should say that - may stress you more.
-
Oh Judy, what a worry, not something you need right now. I hope everything turns out okay, you are in my thoughts. (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-hug005.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
-
Great news about you. As for Geoff, the only solution is to have him seen by a doctor. I agree that you should take up your daughter's offer. Please keep us informed.
-
I'm so glad to hear about your hospital report - I came straight downstairs to check my computer to see what the result had been.
But poor Geoff! And poor you. I'm glad you've got your DIL, and that Geoff has such a loving wife to fight his corner.
But neither of you needed this :(
-
Oh I'm so glad you had a good report. I hope Geoff is feeling better and home with you again soon.
-
9pm tonight the doctor finally arrived and started him on a course of anti-biotics. I had been ringing them every hour to see if he had been and even managed to get to talk to the doctor as well. There should be an improvement by Saturday I was told - I certainly hope so. Will sleep a lot easier tonight. Thanks for listening.
-
That's good news, Judy. Sleep well.
-
Oh Thankgod JD, and Geoff will be fine in couple of days, some strong anti-biotics, and he will be home on Tuesday, and you will be fattening him up with all the lovely goodies that you have been cooking this week!
Bless you both!
The most important thing is that you are both on the road to recovery and its just a question of a couple of days! Big kiss JD, keep your chin up! :-*
-
A big thank you to everyone for your support over this past month - it has meant so much to me :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
You deserve a very special Christmas. All will be 100% by the time the festive season comes round.
I just want to thank you for the help and support you have given, in this forum. The recent success of our 1000th member is dedicated to you.
:-)
-
Thank you MM. I'm sure this forum has done more for me than I have done for it but thank you for the dedication - it is such an honour. :-* :-* :-*
-
Oh Judy, I'm saddened to hear about DH's health and lack of care in the aged care facility he has been in. After everything else thats the last thing you need. Good to hear that you have been given the all clear ;D :-*
Thinking of you both.
MM - what a wonderul gesture!! :) :)
-
Latest is that I am trying to get Geoff out of that place and home where he will be taken better care of. I have people trying to organise care workers for morning and night to assist me in bringing him home this afternoon which is 4 days earlier than planned but to Geoff, that would seem like an eternity I guess. With the antibiotics kicking in and me being able to build him up with sustagen drinks & healthier choices of food (he's not eating much at all) and being home where he wants to be - fingers crossed I will have my man back to 'normal' very soon. Until everything has been organised, I cannot even tell him so once the phone call comes in to confirm everything, that call will be made quick smart.
-
OH Judy, I do hope you can get him home, even if the two of you live on eggs and toast. I'm sure that with him home the two of you will feel so much better. Thinking of both of you with love. :-* :-* :-*
MM, what a really beautiful thing to do. Judy is so much a part of our forum. Thank you.
-
Good luck JD - but don't overdo it !!! :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
He's back ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D He arrived just 1 hour after I rang the nursing home and told them they could send him home. It is 1/2 an hour away from here and they had to order an access cab as well but how quick was that :o :o :o A friend was there at the time and he helped pack up Geoff's gear and bought it home in his car. I must say he is looking so much better today than he was yesterday - can't believe those antibiotics have kicked in that quickly. So, life returns to 'normal' albeit at a much slower pace until the end of the year. We both like eggs on toast Cookie1 and that is probably something he hasn't had for the past month anyway. We will survive (with a little help from outside) and no, I won't be doing anything silly, trust me.
-
YIPPEE, WHOOPEE, WOWEE, HURRAH. Judy I am soooo.........................................very very pleased for both of you. I can only imagine how you felt. Have a wonderful, restful weekend and enjoy your eggs on toast.
-
So glad to hear he is home where he is meant to be. I'm sure that both of you will recover much more quickly and smoothly now that you can remain in sight of each other and that you can give each other the TLC you need.
Make sure you keep on taking things gently and carry on getting better. Geoff is very lucky indeed to have you fighting so hard on his behalf. WELL DONE :D ;D 8) :-*
-
Great news Judy, enjoy your weekend ;D
-
Hip hip hooray!!!
Well done JD! Have a lovely slow easy weekend! Kisses to you both!
-
Hope you get lots of help. It is a big ask at any time - but after a big op .... take it easy. :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Lovely to hear. I'm really happy for you.
-
Just logged on and what great news JD ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D. Fanastic that everything has come together so you are able to have DH at home and that hs antibiotics have kicked in and are making a difference already! :o Getting rid of that stress and worry will help you both recover even more quickly.
As Thermomixer says, please take it easy on yourself and don't push yourself. Please call those close to you for any help, any time of day or night - whenever you need it.
-
Oh JD I have been soooo busy I haven't been on for days (I have 8 pages of unread posts :o :o :o) and was heartbroken to read this thread.....until I got to the last page!! ;D ;D ;D So glad for you both it has ended with you both at home and recovering with all the good things including your love for each other. Take it easy (both of you) :-* :-*
-
Everything going well and DH is improving a bit more each day. Still had some of that chicken soup DD made me and he woofed that down for lunch yesterday - nothing like chicken soup to build you up. No fear of me doing anything silly, my stomach is still sore so that reminds me to take it easy. I figure when that soreness goes, I will be almost fully recovered. Got a bit of a social life happening first 3 days of next week - Monday the Christmas cooking class, Tuesday walking to the local tavern for my Mum's birthday lunch and Wednesday is my carers' group Christmas lunch so I am looking forward to those outings. Thanks to all for the latest lot of good wishes - you are all such caring and kind people.
-
Judy, I am so pleased to see that Geoff is home and on the mend at last!
Looking forward to tomorrow - see you there! Shall we meet up out the front somewhere?
-
Hi Amanda, either out the front or just hang around the table where we usually register. At least we know what each other looks like.
-
Judy I have been so busy and have only just read the last 4 pages of this thread! So glad to hear Geoff is back at home :-* Take it easy - slow and steady wins the race ;)
-
Fantastic news Judy... Thanks for keeping us informed.
:-)
-
....... Tuesday walking to the local tavern for my Mum's birthday lunch .........
Hope it is not a couple of miles away !!! Are you pushing Geoff in the wheelchair too ?? Good to see you are not drinking and driving though !!
-
No, it is only 10 minutes walk away. Only walking because I'm not allowed to drive for a couple more weeks Thermomixer and it is the nearest place I can take my dear old Mum for her 87th birthday. DIL is coming down to push Geoff, not allowed to do that yet either. I might even have my first alcoholic drink in weeks, no one told me I can't ;) ;)
-
Cheers
-
After all you've been through I think you deserve to let your hair down and have a glass JD. ;) :-*
-
It will help to relax you after the stress you've had lately. ;)
-
2 steps forward, 1 step back. Not with me, I'm progressing as expected but not only did DH have a chest infection when he came home but he was also in the early stages of a bladder infection. I thought he was too sick for just a chest infection and had asked them to send a sample off just before he came home. Results back in today and luckily I have the correct antibiotic on hand for this problem (all ready to take on our cancelled cruise just in case they were needed). Just means he will be weaker for another week or so. It never rains but it pours around here.

Totally not surprised Judy. Typical non care with untrained staff. Soap box needed. One day at a time. Bummer times10.

-
Just read post about Geoff. Chin up, at least it is something that can be treated. What you need, is to do a little T.M cooking. Glad you are feeling a lot better. Best wishes to both of you.
-
I will not, will not, I promise I will not.................get on my soap box.
That's the pits Judy. Get well soon Geoff. :-*
-
Much healing to you both JD... how frustrating for you. :-[
-
Bladder infections seem to be a common cause of problems and slow lots of oldies down. MrsT is often checking those who slow down for cystitis. Sure the antibiotics will control it - with some good tucker.

Would probiotics be beneficial for Geoff here too JD?
I always dose my kids up on them when they have to have ABs... :-*
-
Always good with anitibiotics. :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
I was just on the TM website - did you handsdown win last months Monthly Mouthful competition?
-
Apparently so CP63, my Indian book is on its way to me right now. Pity there is not more publicity about these H.O. recipe competitions.
-
Congratulations JD again. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Congratulations Judy. You are indeed a star. :-*
-
Oh Wow Judy, congratulations. Will have to have a look for it. :D
-
Thanks everyone. JulieO, you will have to look closely. I think it is the last paragraph after their current list of new recipes on the blog http://thermorecipes.blogspot.com (http://thermorecipes.blogspot.com) for those of you who don't even know this blog exists.
-
Congratulations JD, you will be entering the Hall of Fame soon.
-
;D ;D ;D Is there such a thing CP63. That reminds me, I must put my recipe on the forum for everyone to see.
-
Well done Judy! Where do you find the monthly mouthful recipes? There doesn't appear to be a link.
-
I use http://thermorecipes.blogspot.com (http://thermorecipes.blogspot.com) MJ and yes, there isn't much publicity about it. To find the older posts, click on those words at the end of the current page.
