So sorry to hear about your friend, baf.

Yes - Sorry to hear that - Can't remember the thread but have you seen this book on Healing Foods?? TMX sells it for $25
http://www.thermomix.com.au/01-cookbooks.html
Cheryl Reid shares her inspiring story of her husband Paul who was diagnosed with medically incurable cancer. She investigated natural remedies and discovered the healing power of plant foods.
Through a changed lifestyle and new way of eating, Paul regained complete health within 18 months while receiving no conventional therapies.
Full of good food and lifestyle habits along with delicious recipes which include Thermomix conversions, The Healing Power of Food is an excellent resource for everyone.
And this is Cheryl Reids website -

I'm looking into Kefir and Kefir related products at the moment - I'm thinking of starting up with that. Anyway, I keep noticing how it's linked with people using food to heal cancer, so that might be something to look into? It seems to be quite a big theme in the kefir world. I could post you some links if you like, or just google it.
I was originally just looking for water kefir as a still healthier alternative to using ginger beer plant for interesting drinks (in abeyance at the moment, but I usually make a batch per week), and then became amazed at everything you could do with kefir (cheese, cottage cheese, sour dough bread, pickled vegetables, etc - all with extra health benefits). And then noticed how repeatedly it was coming up as assisting in the body's fight against cancer.

thanks Caroline....it sounds disgusting !! but have emailed her some interesting links
-
I was just reading about kefir the other day Caroline on one of my favourite blogs. It does sound very interesting.
Here is the link for anyone interested:

Caroline - Dr B uses it in his commercial BARF diets - so it must be good ;) ;D :-*
There is a good site from Sth Aust http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~dna/Makekefir.html (http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~dna/Makekefir.html)
It is easy to obtain here, sure it would be easier over there.

Good on you Gretchen. ;D Mine was a melanoma and it has been nearly 3 years. Not as spooky as breast cancer though. In fact I'm off for my check up next week. Do you still have checks after 15 years?
-
Every year cookie1. You do the same I hope. Have every mole lump or discolouration mapped. Nothing is for sure in this life.

Thought this was a very interesting report Cyndi Meara put out about Soy Products.

Yes Gretchen, I am very good. I have just moved from 3 monthly checks and this will be my first 6 monthly check. Lovely specialist, I even look forward to them!!

We drink alkalised water now to help our diet as well. All in the name of looking after yourself as best you can ;)

The soy issue is a worry for me as I only have soy milk in my tea and coffee. I don't drink it by the glass, but I just can't stand the taste of milk. This is due to a naturopath putting me on a strict diet of no wheat, dairy, yeast and sugar in 1999 for a period of 6 months. I was a skeleton by the end as it was soo hard to find gluten free products and soy milk in those days. I had shocking hay fever, so I was prepared to do anything!!
It worked and I no longer suffer from hay fever. But I just can't go back to regular milk in my tea and coffee. The good news is that I have cut down on my daily beverages after listening to Cyndi's CD's.
But since I make my own bread, cakes and biscuits, I'm unlikely to be exposed to as much soy as those who buy pre prepared foods.
I used to have only alkaline water, like you kathryn, but the damn water filter (Nikken) took up too much space and the filters were too expensive. I now make do with a filter on our tap.
-
Ours isn't filtered as such Meagan and very easy I must say. Not necessarily cheap but I can't put a price on health these days l... the only time I whinge is when I get stuck out and need to buy something to feed everyone and it is the "I'm not paying THAT for THAT rubbish!!!" lol

We went and had lunch with some new but lovely friends yesterday. They seemed to use salt in their cooking and also deep fried food. We use no salt and never deep fry, I always do it in the oven. We were so thirsty from the salt it wasn't funny, then I ended up with heartburn. The meal was really lovely though. I didn't think we had changed our ways that much, but obviously we have.
-
This is a real problem Cookie1. Like you, I eat healthily and deep frying is rarely used in this house. Old friends are OK as they usually know your eating habits but new friends haven't had much of a chance to get to know these things. Mmm, bit of a problem, how do you tell them :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-
I'm a big chicken- so in my case I don't tell them. Just fill up on salad and say how full I am. When they come here I usually make a TMX recipe and carry on about how healthy it is. We've only known them for about 9 months but have become very firm friends and see each other every couple of weeks for a meal. Lunch usually starts about 10am and then we leave about 6pm. It's lovely.
