Title: So pathetic......
Post by: Roxy on December 13, 2009, 07:28:55 am
My 2 year old is spending the night at the grandparents so I can........

Go to the Christmas Demo  :D :D :D

Once it would've been a massive night out because I also don't have to work tomorrow.   It is a sign of my age and the power of my thermie!!

I hope so Cookie **exasperated sigh**
I did my zoot tonight. Miss 3 has been playing up lately going to bed and not going to sleep. So by 9 I'd had enough (she's usually in bed between 7-7.30). Threatend that her Chrissy present was going back to the shop and that Santa's elves were watching and were going to report back on her behaviour. Its a shame I had to resort to that but it's seemed to have had the desired affect.

ILB - Miss 4.5 bedtime routine gets longer and longer.  Then every now and then, we have to do something similar and pull it back to normal.  Then gradually, it gets longer and longer again.  At the moment it's about 30-40mins so will be time to shorten it back soon.

Thanks everyone. Christmas worked so well last year... but this year she's just too skeptical on the elves checking her....

Cathy - glad I'm not the only one.

Faffa - her birthday is May, so between May and November I'm in no-mans land.  :-))

If my boys were naughty  I used to tell them that Santa would take a pressie out of their sack & replace it with a potato. One year they had been arguing a lot just before Christmas so on Christmas morning there were a couple of potatoes in their sacks!! ;) ;) I overheard the younger one say to his brother "I wonder what he took out. Next year I'm not going to be naughty all year!!"

LOL - sounds like the Italians with Epiphany - if the kids are good they get lollies and sweets, if bad they get coal - a potato is less messy.  Imagine whatt fun they could have with coal !!!!!

oh this is brilliant.  Daughter is a bit young at the moment but will remember.  Did it work the following year??

Glad to see there are others out there enjoying the same type of night outs.

It was the christmas demo and I had told husband to take some money out so I could buy some cookbooks.  $50 later  :-[  I didn't buy the christmas one because I thought it's fine I will survive without it, and then at the end I wanted it and we didn't have any money left (we had already raided the car's coin stash  :-)))

The following year the youngest one opened his Santa sack & yelled " NO POTATOES THIS YEAR"

I've always been extremely fortunate to have a Santa camera in my car. It is not advertised as a feature when you buy the car, but it can be found near or on the rear vision mirror. The current one is just a dot on the mirror, but it has been fantastic when the kids were small and used to fight. You can give it a bit of a tap, and Santa usually gets the signal to tune in, so I used to calmly point out that Santa is probably watching right now from the North Pole...
(My kids are 17, 19, 21 now so they laugh at Santa taking on such a Big Brother attitude)  ;D

Love all the stories!!! ROFLMAO!!!

Well she doesn't buy the whole potato in the stocking concept  :-)). Told me it was "crazy" but am determined to put a few in there just to teach her a lesson as she's been a bit of a ratbag at the moment.  ;)

Thanks Faffa for the link. Have it all done so will show DD soon.  :-* :-*

It worked really well Faffa. Actually used a pic of DD at a recent Christmas Party were the big fella made a guest appearance. Grace has seen it and was captivated. Took the bait well. Daddy called and she told him all about it and has since been declaring how good she is and has been frantically cleaning all her toys up - HOORAY!!! W

Will let you know how it works for sleep (fingers crossed)

We did one for Freyja (4.5) as well following your suggestion.  She was glued to the screen, thought it was so exciting.  It's really well done, simple but very clever.  Haven't used it as bribery yet, but it's definitely an option.

Ahhhh do you hear that??? The total blissful silence of a child drifting off to sleep silently!!!

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

(I remember reading a quote one time that said "somehow you love them that tiny bit more when they're asleep" )

Worked a charm.... hopefully after the next 10 sleeps it will continue.... (FINGERS CROSSED!!!)

ILB - something else to consider - does Grace have little "friends" who sleep with her?  Occasionally we have to remind Freyja that her friends are very tired and need sleep and that if they can't sleep with her, they'll have to sleep with mum and dad.  This usually works brilliantly!  I think we had to do it once, but since then the idea is more than enough.

Thanks for the tip Cathy. I do explain that Cuddlebug is really tired and needs some sleep but that doesn't work. So will try that tip.  :-*

LOL - just practising in my role as caring new grandad - realised that is probably not the way to win them over   ;D ;D

Yeah, let's just tell them lies heeeheeeheee.  Maybe we need someone like Santa to come every month?  Hey, Christmas 12 times a year!!!    Good for business.  We could have the buyip for Australia day

Must say I really, truly don't know how parents manage !!  Big hugs to all you poor sods from me.

Reading these stories reminded me of an effort by my DD to bring her then 3 year old DD into line. Her SIL had done it to one of her boys - if you play up, you receive a black rock in the mail from Father Christmas with a letter warning you that if you receive 3 of them there will be no visit from FC that year.  My grand-daughter had seen the rock and heard the story.  She was giving her Mum a hard time so one day when I was babysitting, I took her to Fasta Pasta for a meal.   DD, who worked close to home knew we were going out so raced home and put the letter in the box.  As usual, GD and I collected the mail from the box and she was so delighted to hear there was one with her name on it.  Inside we go, she lets me open it to read it to her and the minute she saw the black pebble attached to the letter the look on her face said it all.  It immediately bought tears to my eyes just seeing my darling little girl so distressed and after I read the letter, we cuddled and cried together.  She wanted it put in the bin and it was to be our secret, her parents weren't to be told.  I think she was so ashamed and embarrassed about the whole affair. I rang my DD and told her that was the nastiest letter I had ever seen!!!  GD never mentioned it to her parents so her Dad retrieved it and, acting surprised that he had accidentally found it when putting some rubbish out, sat her down and discussed it with her.  They pointed out that if she was good, they were sure FC would notice and maybe take the black rock back. A couple of days later there was another letter with a chocolate in it.  I don't recommend any parents try this one - it was so traumatic and has scarred me for life  :( :( :( ;) ;) ;)

Oh no JD, I almost cried too at the thought of that little lip trembling.  It actually sounds a bit like the mafia putting it's mark on someone  :o  But sometimes these lessons are hard learned.

I am listening to what is meant to be a sleeping child sing jingle bells to her teddy.  She did say she'd better have a quick seep so Santa will come. She'd better be good because santa does not want to return the jumping castle to target in the middle of boxing day sales (and I don't think Santa could get it back in the box now either  :-)))

It's hard to be mad sometimes isn't Roxy. sometimes when DD is supposed to be asleep and I hear her giggling and singing it's hard to stay cranky.
But other times..... :-))

JD - it was pretty harsh but at least only the first warning so there was plenty of room for her to right her wrongs.  Though it sounded like it was pretty heart breaking.  It was pretty tough for you to be the one having to deal with the situation too when her Mother was the one to issue out the warning.  :'( :'(

Yes, I think she underestimated the devastating effect it was going to have on her little one. They are so into the fantasy world at that age - it is a pity it comes to an end when they find out the truth about FC.

JD - it is very sad, and if it scarred you. what might it have done to GD??  All in the name of innocent fun - better behave.
