Recipe Name: Pasta e Fagioli
Book Name: EDC page 87
Tweaking details: This is for a 2 yr old so I do not use the chilli. I replace it with 1 x red capsicum. Often I use kidney beans instead of Borlotti or Cannellini. Instead of two tomatoes I like to use 1 x tomato and 1x green capsicum for more flavour. Also she enjoys it with a MC full of fresh herbs (whatever I have in the garden, usually basil and oregano)
Review: This is great dish for kids. I think some adults might find it a bit boring!
Score: (out of 5*) 4 /5 if I tweak it as explained above. Otherwise I would mark it a 2/5 because of lack of flavours.
My friend Caroline suggested I try this one for my 2 year old fussy eater. It was such a hit that she has it once a day now. Either for lunch or dinner. I might try tweaking it even more this week.

Glad Miss T likes it ;D. I make it as per the recipe (minus chilli) for the girls, and add some sliced pepperoni for DH and I. Must try your tweaks, Carolyn- they sound good!
-
It's a great recipe to add more flavours too gradually as she becomes more adventurous.

Thanks Sydneymama - I know we have had lots of talk about pasta e fagioli - but seems nobody ever reviewed it properly !!
-
We all love it here! Have been told it is very authentic and "just like Nona used to make!!" I like to add onion though and the chili really does make the dish and give it some depth. My 8 yr old hates anything spicy but loves this - if you just use 1 chilli it doesn't override the whole dish. Also you absolutely need to sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. ;)

i thought there was already a review for it too!
here's my version, we love it

I wonder why I seem to be the only person who doesn't like this dish. I even tried Antonio Carluccio's recipe and that didn't do it for me either. Different strokes for different folks it appears.
-
No you are not the only one judydawn, none of us like it either, still there is plenty of other dishes for us to try ;D
-
Thank goodness for that Pam_H ;) ;) I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me. As you say though, so many other delicious recipes to try (especially off the forum).

Seems to be one of those dishes people either really love or really hate! :D

Thanks Nay-nay - too lazy to find it - I was in a hurry :-)) I have now moved it into reviews
-
We had this at our demonstration and haven't had it since!
-
I searched the reviews and didn't find it ??? Surprised as I thought it would have been a rather popular dish especially for kids.
-
LOL - probably our fault for not moving it into the Reviews section when it was created. I think the biggest problem is that people amy think pasta and not realise they are going to be eating soup. ?? It is one of those clean the fridge meals.
-
Am I doing it wrong?? Mine IS pasta. :-\
-
Dipende !! A link here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasta_e_fagioli (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasta_e_fagioli) - it really depends on family preference and how much pasta you add.
Soupy or firmer
-
That is so funny cause I was told in my training (as a consultant) to leave it in thermomserver until soaked in so as not to be soup. :D
-
Probably because most Aussies wouldn't eat it as a soup.
-
Definitely have to leave it sit for a little while. Can't remember whether it says in the recipe...hope so, or no wonder people don't make it twice.
-
Yep I like to keep it in the thermoserver for about 10 mins. My daughter would make too much mess with it if I allowed her to eat it as a soup. I'd enjoy it as a soup though I think!
I make it every single day as per her requests. I wonder if my little one will go off it soon. Will add some meats today i think.
