So I made my first lot of butter today, using fresh cream and it worked out great! However, both of my local supermarkets only stock one brand of fresh, non-thickened cream, and at $2+ for 300ml it doesn't seem like it's worth making!
Does anyone use the thickened cream? Does it work? TIA
-
Yes Dutch, it does work. Sometimes I might get it out on special for 50c - 99c so then it is worth it but, as you say, paying top dollar does not make it worthwhile. Just check the specials bin and if it is near to it's use-by date or even over they say, just get it then.

Thanks JD! Next time I'll just get the ordinary thickened cream!

Any cream will do and the nearer to out of daet the better. Don't make the mistake I did and use low fat thickened cream. The discount lable was over the real lable!

Ooh, how annoying Gretchen >:( I hate the way supermarkets do that.
I just check for cream that's nearly out of date.

you can freeze the cream to use at a later date if you get a big lot of reduced price cream
and or you can freeze the extra butter you make until it is needed
