Hello everyone.
I have my demo booked for Sunday and the $ sitting in my account to begin my thermomix adventure. I am EXTREMELY excited. I love cooking, and have many different gadgets, but had always held off buying a food processor and/or kitchenaid because it annoyed me that I would have to buy both. Somehow, I just know there must be a better way!
I discovered the thermomix because of a childhood memory of my husband. He was reminiscing about the perfect custards his mother used to make in the 70's with this really strange blender-type machine. He can recall her complete and utter devastation when a part finally gave way and she was unable to replace it. He asked her about it recently and after some digging around we discovered it was a thermomix (where would we be without the internet?)! So it seems they were for sale in Australia many years ago, then disappeared for awhile...
I will spend this week doing lots of research, making lists of things I want to try and generally get less and less sleep as the week wears on due to my excitement!
Thanks for the forum - I'm sure it will be a gold mine of information!

We can understand your excitement. Stock up on recipes you want to try, and maybe different ingredients as well. At least that was the case for me, although that's been gradual. It's an exciting journey for the whole family.

Welcome Versace. I highly recommend the recipes on this forum. I have found them much better than many of the ones in the books and I enjoy seeing people's comments after they have tried the recipe and maybe made variations. That isn't to say there aren't some good ones in the books too. Well worth checking out the reviews section of this forum. Happy cooking.
-
thanks for the kind welcome. :)
it's great to have a forum where everyone can share and improve on the recipes - I will definitely be using them! the internet is my main recipe source these days (have ditched magazine subs) - there is so much wisdom and experience out there.
-
Thermomix custard is pretty powerful stuff!
-
Welcome to the Forum!
-
We can all understand that level of excitement! ;)
Welcome to the forum! ;D
-
That's pretty cool your MIL had a TMX in the 70's - wish mine did!! She made everything by hand, even all our bread, so it would have been a big help. Welcome to the forum! Have fun, Jo ;D
-
Welcome to the forum, I'm sure you will have fun here.
-
thank you everyone! my MIL is coming to the demo on Sunday and she is beside herself with excitement, but needs to work on the FIL!
can anyone recommend a 'christening' recipe??
-
Strawberry Foam (for the wow factor) - but use less sugar unless you like things REALLY sweet! Or maybe you'd better start with custard to keep your dh happy!! ;)
-
Firstly welcome to the forum versace and secondly, hope the bits are replaceable in our TMX's for a long time to come. I wonder how many other people had one of those early models back in the 70's - would love to see what it looked like back then. What a great story and I wonder if MIL will want to buy another one now after all these years.
-
thanks quirky - it may have to be a custard for sentimental value, but i'm sure i'll be on a cooking binge so any more suggestions gratefully received!
judydawn - yes i would LOVE to see pics of the old models (i like old things generally)! MIL told me she is wearing green to the demo (as she will be feeling so envious)!
-
What foods do you love to eat and cook, but would like to make simpler to prepare? Eg sauces that require 10 minutes of more stirring by hand?
-
Don't the consultants have a more or less set menu to do at demos? Mine was bread, dip, a fruit drink, salad, meat, veg and sauce recipe using the varoma and custard.
Versace I tried googling to find pictures of Bimby back in the 70's but drew a blank. Anyone able to come up with a picture of any models in years gone by as I'm sure we would all be interested to see how it has evolved over the years.
-
I was more thinking of first dishes to try at home once thermomix arrives, not what to cook at the demo.
-
And maybe versace was too Cathy. If it is hot I'd make an instant ice-cream and if it is cold I'd do a soup versace ;) ;)
-
yes i was thinking about what to do when the demo is finished - maybe for dinner that night. but i think a soup is probably the way to go as i love soups, cook them alot and would love to experiment with how TM will make that process quicker and easier...
i saw a recipe on a blog for chick pea and spinach soup (where you pulverize the dried chickpeas) which I think I might try...
judydawn i will do some digging right now for pics or info on old TM's...
-
Welcome versaceyoyo!
Glad to hear you're on board with your demo and ready to order! Depends where you are, but it usually takes a week or two for your thermomix to arrive after you place the order and the money goes through to HO.
Enjoy your demo and in the meantime drool away at all the lovely dishes you'll soon be cooking up ;)
-
I Love Bimby - I thought that might be the case :(
Oh well, if I don't have it Sunday that gives me more time to learn from you lovely people in the meantime!
-
Here's a photo of the 60's model, if I can get this silly thing to work...
-
And here's the 80's model...

I Love Bimby - I thought that might be the case :(

If you and DH have decided you're going to purchase it regardless of demo or not, then maybe give your consultant a call and order ahead of time. Though many want to see the demo first just to confirm their decision. :)
-
Thanks for finding those pics Jo, boy it has come a long way in looks. Looks very ordinary actually back then. Makes you wonder what it is going to look like in 20 year's time ??? ???
-
Awesome pics!! It looked more like a standard blender in the old days, didn't it?
The burnt orange one is the one my MIL had! DH has confirmed...much excitement here from DH to see the old girl again! those custards must have been good...
I love bimby - I have the contacted consultant but she is overseas til later in the week. hopefully we can organise in time! If not it is a lesson in patience, for sure....
-
Strawberry Foam (for the wow factor) - but use less sugar unless you like things REALLY sweet! Or maybe you'd better start with custard to keep your dh happy!! ;)
I checked out your foam recipe on your blog - I will definitely give this a go!! I love frozen berries. Great blog too.
-
Thanks versace :)
-
How dare your consultant go overseas ;) :D :D :D
-
welcome to the crazy club!!!
this forum has been the main base for most of my experiments so far.
If you want bread.... you can't go past Isi for tonnes of recipes. We've adopted her Portuguese rolls (as a loaf) as our 'daily bread'.
You'll find yourself just making things up as you go too. It's all pretty exciting!!
;D :D ;)

Welcome versaceyoyo - tell me, how and why did you choose this forum name??
I would make chocolate custard to start with loads of dark chocolate and half cream, half milk. The creamy, chocolatey deliciousness will make everyone green with envy. Serve with some strawberries macerated in icing sugar and cointreau. Yum!
Love those photos of the early models, Jo!
-
Welcome versaceyoyo - sure you'll have loads of fun and impress MIL once it arrives. Good luck
-
Welcome versaceyoyo - tell me, how and why did you choose this forum name??
Versaceyoyo is the racing name of my now ex-racing greyhound - who now goes by the far less glamorous 'Tim'.
-
Haha! :D
-
Welcome Versace. I hope your machine is here or close to coming.
-
TMX arrives Sunday!! ;D
-
3 sleeps to go!! :D
-
Yeehah! It's great to have people on this forum who understand the level of excitement! It may seem manic to outsiders...
-
Sounds pretty normal to me ;D ;D ;D ;D
