Title: Screen Problem ???
Post by: Deeau on May 10, 2010, 10:25:05 am
My Thermomix is only 3 weeks old, this evening after using it I noticed that there was an ice cube that had dropped behind the machine so I moved it to wipe it up and though that I would turn the machine onto its back and wipe the feet with a damp cloth( as I read to do this ever now and then), now the screen has gone all stupid, there are no errors but it is displaying everything on the screen at the same time ( all the display ) changing to scales etc the display is different but equally unreadable and its kind of flicking all over the place. I would swear that it is like a digital watch that has gotten wet, ( which I can see no possible way how this could have happened ) Has anyone seen this before?

Never seen it - what happens if you turn it off and let it rest for a few minutes?

Its been off for maybe 20 minutes now...it is better but not right, I have a 1 displayed permanently next to the time icon on the screen this also stays there in the scales screen, the other icons, that were flashing in and out now  seem to be working when I press them ie: reverse etc ( working as they should ) . I am not game enough to lay it on its back again...how do others clean the feet?
I will be ringing them tomorrow....very disheartened I "thought" these things were basically bomb proof  :(

Deeau, mine's done that twice now since having the motor replaced! Stewart at HO suggested it may have been water in the motor and he's seen some with green slime in there  :o but as mine had just been pulled apart, I doubt it was that. So its gone back again for another look for this and another issue too.

Would be worth giving them a call! The two times were about a month inbetween each other. It seemed to work fine and thank fully I know my way around it enough to know how the timer was going and it cooked fine, just couldn't read a thing on the screen! Most of the symbols and parts to the numbers were all lit up.

Oh no! That is disheartening!  :'(  I sort of just clean under there with out lifting it right up or looking - sort of tip it slightly forward then back as I wipe the bench down. But it should not do that!! I would have thought it would clear after turning it off too. You need to ring asap - does your consultant know??  :-)) thinking of you - let us know what happens  :-* :-*

Never heard of this problem.  To clean my feet I just tilt the machine to the left, have never gone backwards. Hope you get it sorted quickly Deeau.

Its been off for a while now and the screen has gone back to normal, thanks for the responses, glad to see it has happened to someone else ILB, my husband suggested that there may somehow be water in there but its brand new? After it was back to normal I did give it a quick tilt again and as soon as I turned it back on the screen was a bit wrong again but nowhere as bad as the first time. I will call them tomorrow and see what they have to say, would hate to loose it to be repaired but also hate to have it develop into a bigger problem
Thanks

I tilt mine backwards all the time, and after nearly 2 years its only just starting to have that problem... so I wouldn't think it was that.

I heard that sometimes new ones will do that once, but usually the first time they're being used then they're fine...  ??? ???

Would be worth even giving your consultant a call tonight as she/he will need to send through the paper work to HO and possibly speak to their Group Leader first anyway.  My guess is HO will advise you to speak to your consultant, but I may be wrong..??

I have spoken to Stuart at HO, He can't understand why it is doing what it is, but he was very helpful, mentioned that it should make no difference tipping the machine on its back, he has them upside down etc, all the time. He is going to sent it away to be repaired next month while I am away on holidays so I am without it a minium of days. Obviously he understands that even though I have only had it a short time I am not sure how I will manage without it.
 ;D

Good to hear that is is solved - looks like the service staff at HQ have to have a name starting with S.  Steve the serviceman, now Stewart/Stuart the serviceman.

I also heard from Stewart today  ;D as my Thermie has been fixed now, apparently some loose leads were the cause of the screen going funny. There was "something else"  ??? that needed fixing too, but he couldn't remember what that was as the new service guy in Melbourne looked at mine.

Mine will actually go to Melbourne too, but I spoke to WA to find out what the procedure was. Still have to contact my Consultant to get her to do the paperwork

I've had this problem with the screen twice but both times I had an overflow from the bowl so just assumed that some moisture had got down where the prongs insert into the base. Just left it to dry out & all was fine. The first time was scary though.

I've just had this happen to me today. Left it off for an hour or so and it was fine, just made shortbread - fine all the way through until I went to clean the bowl. It's off again. Hopefully it'll be better tomorrow? (and for dinner tonight).
eeek.

Zan ... I started this thread, the machine only got to about 4 months old and ended up needing a new main board, apparently there was a batch of faulty ones....they replaced it about three times before I got mine back. It has now been going great since October

Hi, I'm hoping mine was just a bit of water (I noticed when I 'unscrewed' the base that it was a bit damp in there - maybe i should pull it apart more often, lol - so hopefully it was just that that caused it,) but if it happens again I will contact them.

Hope it's all OK Zan.
Mine did that once, but the issue was immediately rectified after turning off and on.
