Title: Hi from WA
Post by: ~ - Jules - ~ on June 03, 2010, 04:15:22 pm
Hi,

We are in the process of ordering a thermomix, and I can't wait to try out some of these great sounding recipes.

I'm a mother of 2 beautiful boys, the eldest is 4 and our youngest has just turned one.  The youngest seems to be gluten intolerant, and at least to some degree, egg and dairy intolerant (although not so much of those last two anymore).  I have also been recently diagnosed as gluten intolerant.  So am loving the idea of being able to make my own rice flour and the likes, as well as meals in general without having to worry about what goes into it.

I enjoy baking and decorating cakes, so will be interested to try some cakes as well.

Hi Jules, welcome to the forum.  The TMX is ideal for people with intolerances, you will find lots of help here in that regard. We have a GF recipe book so be sure to order that too.

Welcome to the forum Jules.  Hope you don't have to wait too long till your TM arrives.

Me too :)

Should get a better idea sometime today.

And thanks, I bought the gluten free cookbook when I ordered the thermomix... Now just have to wait for it to arrive.

Its sad, 'Sir Tim of Mixalot' (the thermomix) has a name Sir Mixalot being husbands choice, and TiM being for ThermoMix  :-[

Hi and welcome Jules. I love the name you have chosen for your machine. I'm with CP63 with the yum and cakes in the same sentence.
Let us know how things go when you receive your machine.

Welcome Jules - the agony of waiting is the worst part.

Yep definately hanging out for Tim...

Since Thursday, I have made, a loaf of fruit loaf, 6 bread rolls, a small 3d bear and 3 square cupcakes which were banana and (a touch of) coconut, some spiced stewed apples, custard, a dozen muffins with the left over apples and custard, a lemon meringue pie and some lemon spread (all of which were gluten free).  I've got a joint 1st birthday party next weekend here with 5 one year olds so will be baking 5 mini bear cakes, and some other party goodies during the week as well.  Thinking the thermomix will be useful :P

That's just the demo, should be getting the TMX soon though

You'll be an old hand with the TMX when you have your demo. At least you will be able to clear up any queries  you have.

Yay TiM should be coming to stay tomorrow arvo :)

And they wanted the demo 3 weeks after we got it (and the varoma demo about 6 weeks after)

Now the question is... should we make beef stroganoff or pumpkin soup? :)

This is becoming a 2 way conversation Jules, and you probably live next door or something weird like that.

I'd go for the soup and some bread to go with it. Then follow up with some custard. I can fully understand your excitement. One more sleep.

lol you know what as a consultant I say go the stroganoff - though it is entirely your choice :)

Why not both?
Title: Re: Hi from WA
Post by: ~ - Jules - ~ on June 09, 2010, 10:06:03 am
Because the consultant is going to go through one of those two with us to show us how it works.

Fair enough. As Kathryn said from a consultant's point of view the stoganoff was the best.  I mis understood, I thought you were making them your self.

Enjoy your machine when it arrives. :D

I only say strog as I think it is more impressive than a soup. A soup you just generally leave on the stove to simmer away anyway and you don't get that impact. Where as a strog would generally require some attention while it is cooking!! (except for the TMX of course  :D) As one of my customers said when it was cooking...now what do I do lol ... and proceeded to clean up after her daughter  :D :D

I wanted to go strog for those sorts of reasons, but we have not been shopping yet, and have almost everything for the pumpkin soup, so it will depend what time I actually get home from work, and if I can convince DH that the strog would be better - and I've been hanging out for strong for weeks now, but we have soup often.

I will make a pumpkin soup anyway either tonight or tomorrow as we have a large pumpkin that needs using, but maybe for the "demo" the strog.  will see.

Either way I am hoping it will be tasty, and the TMX results in less dishes (my DH cooks most meals in our house (I bake, he "cooks") but I have to do the cleaning up - and he uses LOTS of dishes when cooking)

Ha ha, you will love the TMX then. My DH is a wonderful cook and I love it when he cooks for us, BUT prior to TMX I was sure that he used every jolly pot and spoon in the kitchen in the process and yes I was on cleaning up duty.  :-)) :-))

Well went the beef strog - very yummy - esp with a dollop of sour cream to serve.

Now what to make?  I have a batch of lemon spread cooking at the moment.

Maybe I should just get baking these 5 mini bears I need to make by sat - yes they dont need TMX though but it still needs to be done

Opps Tim is singing

The lemon spread is very sweet, but rather simplier to make than the batch I made on the weekend.

Well the lemon spread was more like shop bought lemon spread than what I made on the weekend.  But so much easier, so will depend on time as to which I make.

We also made some hot chocolates - which were super chocolately, but tasty.

Now to find some party food to tomorrow :)  (have started a thread in the recipe request section too)

To post recipes I have converted, how do we go about mentioning the source.  I figure since the ingredients remain the same and the method similiar (other than in the TMX) that the original source should be linked to?  Is this correct?

Now if only I could master meringues, I could have posted a pic of my lemon meringue pie.  But with or without the TMX, I cannot do hard peaks.  Oh well.  Made a lemon butter that did not quite work in the TMX, think needs to be cooked longer would fix it.  but is a yummy lemon sauce for lemon chicken etc at the moment.  Should get to type them up tomorrow

 :) :) :)

OMG - I just made the best "sandwich" wrap thingy which was gluten free and tasted GREAT!!!... it would also work brilliantly as a pizza base.  I used the thermomix - just cause I could, but will do a bit more tweaking (and mak it at least once more :P) then post the recipe.  For those who want a sneak peak - here is the original recipe  http://glutenfree.wordpress.com/2007/07/18/gf-wrap-sandwich-success/

Yum yum yum.  Did not even need to toast it - first "sandwich" (without using toast) in sooooo long, and tasted brilliant.  (ok yes I am over tired - up most of night with a teething bub again, so a little crazy, but seriously yum) tasted a bit too much like a pizza base, but I think I need to lower the oven temp and bake a little longer... Anyway we will see tomorrow.

Ok excited rant over now, off to get some rest and sleep (hopefully)

Jules, I can understand your excitement after checking out that link and reading all those positive comments.  How good does that wrap look, I could eat it myself.  Can't wait to see your conversion and some photos maybe?

they are so yummy - made the last batch with cheese and bacon on top of half :) and will be using a plain one tonight as a pizza base :)  (promise I will get pics and recipe up soon, just not 100% sold on it yet.  Still think it either needs less water or lower temp/longer cooking time...
