Title: Recipe review - Indian Lamb Curry Meat on the Menu Page 100
Post by: judydawn on June 06, 2010, 12:54:52 pm
Made this today but substituted beef for the lamb and full leaf spinach for baby spinach.  Only did 1/2 quantity but it was still enough for 4 meals in this house.  It needed longer cooking of the beef and once the potato was added, that also needed extra cooking and in the end it was a nice, thick curry with the meat and potato keeping its shape.  DH enjoyed it, I think I prefer Thai curries to Indian curries.  4/5

Yum! And you served it over rice - what kind? They suggest basmati and naan bread. Did you also leave in Thermoserver for an hour as it says - is this when you did the rice??  :)

I had some basmati rice in the freezer Nay-nay so just zapped that.  I left the curry in the thermosaver whilst I went around to the shops, so yes it would have been an hour in there and if I had to cook the rice, that would have been when I did it.  Not yet got around to making naan bread, the curry was made on the spur of the moment so we just had a good old aussie bread roll with it.

Thanks JD - potato cooking time does seem to be an issue with many of the dishes in the book.  Maybe it is more related to how they are used to eating the potato with more crunch?

Thanks JD - You tempted my tastebuds! I made this tonight only I made the meat 500g and potatoes 300g so that I could add a carrot and Zucchini. (I just had to have more vegies!) Also when I went to make the naan bread while curry was in Thermomserver I realised it would take 2hrs!!! So I just mixed Quirky Jo's tortilla dough up and made a naan looking type of bread in the frypan. But I really do want to try that naan recipe in the MOM book one day.

Good for you Nay-nay - did you use lamb or beef?

We love Naan bread. I put leftovers in the freezer and DD uses them as sandwiches. I love slurping up curries (or anything else for that matter) with bread.

Thanks for the review JD. It's on the list to make-hopefully this week.

Ummm - coming from a beef farm I'm sorry to say I haven't seen any lamb round these parts for some time! I must make a special trip into the butchers to buy some.  ;)

We don't eat a lot of lamb these days. The lamb we got from the farm when Dad was alive so lovely and I find the store bought stuff less tasty. Having said that I bought some for this dish. We loved it. I found that my meat wasn't quite tender enough after the 30 minutes so I gave it another 20. There was enough liquid in the dish to do so. After the extra time it was lovely and tender. I served it with basmati rice.  No Naan as I had been out all day. (much to DD's disgust)

Thanks for trying it and reviewing Judy as I may not have tried it otherwise.

We don't eat much lamb now that I am not able to kill my own  :(  It is so much more expensive than other meats.  Sorry Sam Kekovich.

BTW - great new avatar JD ;)

I'm with you on that one Thermomixer, lamb is far too expensive - pity as I love it.

Thanks re the avatar, had a bit of help reducing that one and it has been sitting there waiting to replace the other one. Finally worked out how to replace an existing photo - easy really if you just remember to scroll to the bottom when you make changes  :P :P :P   Thanks ILB  :-* :-*

Perhaps there will be an AFL miracle and we will play you. :D :D :D We could sit together at the MCG.

Will let you know when we leave home and then keep in touch via the netbook. It would be lovely to meet you somewhere. If we stay down in Adelaide at all it will be probably be at West Beach as we sort of know how to get there. We'll also be staying in the Barossa for a while too. Have to re visit all the places DH went to when he was in Nashos and up at Woodside. I'm quite looking forward to it as we didn't make it last year.

Made this for dinner tonight.  Yum.  I threw in 2 blocks (ice cube size) of frozen spinach at the end and added frozen peas to the thermoserver.  Left the curry in the thermoserver while the rice and nann bread cooked.  Kids went back for seconds & hubby enjoyed it.  Wil make this one again as I usually have all of these ingredients on hand.
