1 quantity EDC pizza dough
Sauce (enough for 3 pizzas)
3 cloves garlic
2 tblspns butter
3 tblspns flour
300mls milk
S & P to taste
With the blades running at speed 7, drop the garlic onto them. Add the butter and cook 2 mins/100o/speed 1.
Add the flour and cook 2 mins/100o/speed 3. Check to see if the flour has mixed in with the butter, if not help with a spatula.
Set timer for 5 mins/100o/speed 3 and add the milk through the hole in the lid.
When cooked and thickened, add S & P to taste.
Allow to cool slightly then place 3-4 tablespoons onto a pizza base, having turned up the edges to hold the sauce.
Filling - bacon, spinach, caramelised onion, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese
Pre-cook the spinach, onion and mushrooms - day before is fine.
Place onions & spinach onto the garlic sauce, bake 18 minutes 220oC then add the bacon & mushrooms & sprinkle with the cheese. Cook 5 more minutes.
Recipe for caramelised onions here ( I did Amanda's version 3/2/10, cooked on reverse.)

JD what a great idea from the usual tomato sauce. I wonder what the family will think of it? I can't even get DH to try a pizza with pesto on it.
-
I made 3 different pizzas today Cookie - ham & pineapple on tomato base, this one and a vegie one on a basil pesto base. Ham & Pineapple has always been my favourite and today's has gone straight into the freezer whilst we concentrated on deciding which of the other 2 we liked best. This garlic sauce one was our favourite. Enough sauce to freeze for 2 or 3 more pizzas.
-
Oh yum! I can't wait to try this JD. :)
-
Looks scruptious JD!!! Yummo!
-
Great sauce recipes Judy for the pizza bases. Thanks for the link to caramelized onions as well. ;)
-
Good thinking with the garlic sauce. Lots of people don't like tomato sauce for their pizzas. :-* :-* :-*
-
Judy I made this today as a late lunch/early dinner. I had a couple of frozen Baker's Delight pizza bases in the freezer that I bought on a whim thinking they may be good standby, so I used one of them. I wouldn't buy them again, I much prefer home made or we quite like the yiros wraps for individual pizzas which make for a lovely crispy base.
Anyway, back to your recipe. It worked a treat. I made the caramelised onions too. I cooked some sliced mushrooms in a little butter and plenty of white pepper, then added some baby spinach to the same pan and let it wilt. I also used prosciutto instead of bacon.
I cooked it in my pizza oven for a few mins.
Was a nice change from the usual tomato based pizzas we usually have, thanks for the recipe. ;D

Glad you liked it Julie, your photos do justice to any recipe so thanks for adding it to entice others to try this recipe.
-
Beautiful Julie!
I missed this recipe :-\ Thanks Judy.....I love alternative pizza sauces!
-
Loved the sauce Judy, thanks!
I made it earlier in the day, so it was nice and thick when I needed it for dinner.
Was the perfect sauce for the Greek patties on pita breads

Great idea maddy. I still have a pack in the freezer.
-
I'm thinking I might try this tonight to make pizzas with left over greek lamb, I'm sure it will go better than a tomatoe based sauce.
-
I'm sure it would be much better Wonder :) We love this sauce and freeze the left overs into ice cubes so we always have some on hand when we decide on pizza's at the last minute :)
-
Oh yum jd i cant believe i missed this recipe.. Will be trying this soon .. Thx
-
Had this last night and they said the sauce was much better than a tomato one with the amb and feta, I missed out because I had some work calls. I ave plenty eft over so we might ave pizza again tomorrow night.
-
I can't believe I haven't seen this before, pizzas for tea tonight, we are going to try cooking them in the BBQ.
-
Let me know how they go jen.. We are going to try that next time on the pizza stone in the bbq..
I think this recipe must have been buried under the thousands.. And jd posted ipt a few years go so ...
-
Thanks for bumping this one Wonder, there are some great recipes on the forum and bumping as a reminder for others who haven't seen/had forgotten about them is the way to go. Glad you are enjoying it girls.

The pizzas were really nice, I used a pizza stone in the BBQ and DH cooked then, ( I stayed inside in the cool) lol
We loved the garlic sauce.
-
Made this for dinner tonight. Used a pizza stone in the oven and was yummy. Love the garlic sauce too.
The three mere males in the house had normal tomato style and refused to try this. Their loss ;)
-
That will happen here too. Pizza to DH means mozzarella, tomato sauce, pepperoni , etc.
-
......And lots of cheese on top ;D
-
So do you use this to replace the tomato base or just drizzle it over the tomato base??
Basic sauces like curry and cream or mustard and cream are delish too.. Pizzas tonight so will be trying this one..!
-
Use it instead of tomatoe sauce.
-
Thx kimmy.. :)
-
Would this freeze OK? I noticed there is quite a lot left in the fridge and I hate to throw it away.
-
Could always test and see wonder ..how many pizzas did you make wonder ?? I might do a half batch ..
-
I've frozen a pizza using this as the base so I can't see why not Wonder. You might have to beat it a bit once thawed if you are just freezing the sauce alone.
-
Frozzie, I ended up not being around for the pizza night so didn't see how many they made with this on it but judging by the amount gone I would say just the one. I would only make a half batch unless you intend on making a few.
-
Ok this was lovely and i ended up making the full amount but adding double the garlic...
-
Must make this again...would be an ideal sauce for savoury scrolls too.
-
It didn't exist back when I posted this sauce but nowadays I would use Tenina's garlic paste instead of plain garlic in this recipe.
-
Is teninas garlic paste sweet though?? Love fresh garlic and it was nice doubled... Oo yes would be nice in scrolls maddy..
-
I use it in everything Kim, it has to be tastier than plain garlic. I find it lifts any recipe I use it in.
-
I remembermaking it and it was quite sweet..personally i prefer plain garlic with maybe a bit of spice or salt and pepper or a little bit of stock.. Or cooked ina bitof butter with onion yum..
Or maybe nexttime leave whatever sweetener was in it out of the recipe... I dont havetherecipe i. Front of mejust going by memory..
-
I have heaps of garlic, will try this one too
-
I made this on Friday and we used it on one of the pizza's we cooked for dinner last night for our guest (pizzas cooked on stones in the BBQ).
As I had made it a day before using it, it had thickened up in the fridge quite a lot, but was still easy to use. We all loved it, a nice alternative to the normal tomato base.
-
That probably increased the flavour Katie, glad you liked it.
-
I precooked it aswell when i made it.. The morning of.. Went like a paste too .. Easy to spread..
-
DH made this tonight to go on our garlic prawn pizzas. Yummo!!! :)
-
Going to make this tonight to use a filling for some scrolls. Garlic and cheese scrolls tonight with our ravioli and vege bake.
-
I love this sauce. What a great idea DG. Looking forward to the photos.
-
I am keen to try this, I love an alternative to tomato sauce on pizza thanks for posting
-
Just made the sauce and it smells Devine. Waiting for the dough to rise to make the scrolls. Will spread the sauce, sprinkle with Italian herbs and cheese and roll up the dough.
-
I love that idea. We had sauce left after using it for pizza. Scrolls would be prefect.
-
Used this sauce again but I've taken to doubling at least the garlic..my only cooking allowed is pizzas once a week oh and when we have guests lol..
Anyway made this sauce earlier in the day and just sat glad wrap on the top touching the sauce so it wouldn't form a hard skin .. Put this on a pizza base with some par cooked chicken pieces, mushrooms, feta, cooked onion, some finely cubed capsicum (pepper/poivron) then sprinkled some Parmesan and a bit of mozzarella cooked for 20 mins at 220.. Served with roasted pine nuts and baby spinach.. Was delish!!
Also tried a garlic bread with this sauce and a bit of cheese but needs alot more garlic so will add a little more salt maybe quadruple the garlic and should be yummy.. Maybe add some finely chopped parsley.. !!
-
I haven't made this since I tried and posted the recipe but these days I would substitute the garlic with Tenina's garlic paste Kim, that would give it a greater garlic hit.
-
I'm going to have to make that again.. Haven't made it in ages as don't remember liking it. Will have to give it another go .. Your recipe was extra nice with the saltiness of the feta added to the pizza.. Yum !!
-
Made this again but tried using a whole head of garlic this time.... Loved it..
I always cook it in advance put some plastic wrap on top touching it and let it cool then paste it on bases with a spoon when ready to use
-
And then lick the spoon ;D
-
;D ;D ;D
-
Haha..
-
I had this for dinner tonight. Still enjoy it. Lovely change from regular pizzas.
-
Nice to hear that Kimmy.
-
This was delicious. I took note of Judy's suggestion and used about 3 teaspoons of garlic paste instead of the cloves.
It worked particularly as the base for the garlic prawn pizza and also the 5 cheeses pizza.
