Title: Recipe Review - Homemade lemonade EDC pge 24
Post by: judydawn on September 06, 2010, 09:45:09 am
During the storm here over the weekend, 17 lemons fell from my neighbours tree into our backyard so I made a batch of this lemonade for our Fathers' Day tea (unfortunately it only takes 2 large lemons so didn't really make a dent in our windfall) I also squeezed some to fill an ice-cube tray for the freezer.  After tasting the lemonade I decided it wasn't lemony enough for me so added some pure lemon juice and 60g extra icing sugar - it went down a treat with all adults and children.  My DH is not a fresh lemon fan but someone mistakenly poured him a glass instead of his usual Coke and he wouldn't let me take it away from him.  I'm off to make another batch right now, just thinking about it makes me want a glassful even if it is very cold here at the moment.

Judy,  this sounds great and I will now give it a go.  Don't forget the carrot and lemon jam if you are stuck for how to use your windfall.

Still have some from my last batch Chookie but another batch would not go astray.

Thanks Cornish Cream, beat me by about 2 seconds  :D :D

Homemade Lemonade for Bluesed

100g sugar
1 tray ice cubes
2 large lemons, washed but not peeled
1000g still or sparkling water
Place sugar into TM bowl and pulverise for 5 seconds on speed 9.
Add ice-cubes and pulverise a further 5 seconds on speed 10.
Remove top and bottom of the lemons and cut into quarters.  Add the lemon to the bowl with 500g water.  Set the speed dial to closed lid position.  Pulse the Turbo button 4 times.  Add remaining 500g water, insert basket into bowl and strain into jug.
Variations - use l lemon, 1 orange and 1 lime.

I used plain old water out of the tap, added an extra 1/2 cup of pure lemon juice and used 160g sugar but try the original and see what you think as the extra lemon and icing sugar can be added at the end.

Taste is very dependent on the variety of lemons, and how long they have been off the tree too. I have made this lots of times now, and found the oldest lemons in the bowl are definitely the best - less pith I think. My mum and dads tree has the best flavor too

You can also serve lemonade hot.  When I was a child my grandfather's home included a large conservatory and part of it was an "orangery" dedicated to small citrus trees, orange, lemon, lime and grapefruit and a row of pineapple plants.

Whenever anyone in the family had a cold or a sore throat, my grandmother would give us a mug of hot lemonade and my grandpa was very fond of hot lemonade spiked with a shot of bourbon. ;D

Too easy Dawn. Put a bucket load of ice, a bucket load of lemon juce and a bucket load of white rum, into the  *: and whizz like a sorbet.

Of course you can just use a shot of each as well but I like to think PARTY!

You are the only person who can get away with calling me Dawn Gretchen - I always hated my middle name because of a girl in primary school who always came to class filthy. But, being born at dawn guess it was a good choice by my parents  :-)) :-))
Thanks for the recipe - might try the shot measures and leave the bucket quantities to you, you devil of a party girl you  :D :D

It does indeed Judy.

I haven't made the EDC lemonade, only the one in the Indian book and that is lovely.

We often make this to the stage of adding the mineral / water, then freeze this in ice trays. when we use it we fill a glass with ice cubes and top up with mineral water. Great for the summer to always have a refreshing drink ready to go  ;)

I am nearly due with my 2nd baby and have been craving lemons like crazy for the past few weeks. I finally got around to making the lemonade but used some stevia instead of sugar.

It's really good and I have nearly finished it off already!!

Will definitely be making more of this over the next few weeks.

Made this today (pretty much followed recipe ;) ) and it is lovely. I like the idea of freezing it but freezer space at a premium at moment!

Plenty of lemons though so I shall do again, and hubby wants an orange version :D

I was actually originally looking for a cordial recipe because DH drinks quite a lot and I'd prefer to make it. The only recipe I've found so far is for the orange squash one which calls for citric acid. I don't have any citric acid so really want a bottle-able, dilute-able cordial recipe if anyone can point me there? :)

In the meantime, I shall be drinking this constantly! So delicious!

Lozzy the berry cordial in the EDC is really nice, have a read of the reviews (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=2507.0) for this one.

Strawberry lemonade (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=4809.0) is nice too.

I make the berry cordial all the time. I actually put less than half the sugar in and a good squeeze of lemon juice.

added an extra 1/2 cup of pure lemon juice and used 160g sugar but try the original and see what you think as the extra lemon and icing sugar can be added at the end.

I love homemade lemonade but hardly ever do it because I hate paying for lemons so this is my first time making the EDC version.

It was DELICIOUS 😛😛😛😛

I love a strong lemon flavour so followed JDs advice above and increased the sugar to 160g but rather than juicing a lemon, I just threw a third one into the bowl and the flavours was perfect.

I will definitely be making this throughout the summer.

I've just come inside after sharing a jug of this with the hubby - it was gorgeous!!! I only added half of the water as I like it strong and it was lush :) hubby would have liked it sweeter (I reduced the sugar too)  but I thought it was perfect.

I've only had my Thermie since Monday but have already experimented a heap with the cordial recipe from the EDC too. Made a grapefruit and a pear version using the berry cordial recipie from the EDC. They are yum, but again, too much sugar for me! I'm looking forward to playing around until I get it right for my taste :)

Had a trip to a pal's house earlier and come home with bags full of fruit from her garden, looks like more cooking to come! I'm sooooooo loving this!! :)

Made this today with half the sugar and it was still great, and really fun to make too.  The basket is so nifty!  Can you tell I'm a newbie haha?

I had a small glass and then moved on to Sangria and added the rest to that.  I will definitely try with other citrus fruits added, I always keep a huge bowl of lemons limes oranges and grapefruits on my kitchen counter!
