Hally: i have not heard of TVP, sounds like an internet provider
Cuilidh: t is Textured Vegetable Protein, Hally. Comes in various forms, in this case it is probably the 'mince' version - it is used as 'pretend meat' or meat substitute and made from soya beans. You have possibly eaten it without knowing. If you look closely at the ingredients of some foods in the supermarket (meat pies I think are often a case in point) you may see textured vegetable protein, or similar wording, listed, so now you know what you are (or, perhaps, are not) eating.
Bedlam: You could substitute tvp with quorn mince too
Jude59: I think I might try this but use lentils instead of tvp. Sounds nice.

What exactly is TVP? Ingredients wise?
I've seen big bags of the dried stuff on the floor of health food stores and it has never appealed to me.

I am afraid I couldn't tell you exactly what TVP comprises - all I know for sure is that it is a processed soya bean product. I would imagine there are other ingredients in it, but couldn't say what they are. It's an interesting question, perhaps I should google it to find out for myself!

Probably could do that myself too, but thought someone may have the answer straight off the top of their head in here!

Gosh, I haven't used TVP for years either. Mum used the Sanitarium brand regularly when we were kids.
This site explains TVP/TSP. http://recipes.howstuffworks.com/textured-vegetable-protein.htm
