Title: 'Gritty' pumpkin soup?
Post by: Molly on September 09, 2010, 04:20:55 am
Having just made my first pumpkin soup (got my TMX yesterday), I'm finding it gritty with the seeds.  I don't want to give the kids any excuse to say they won't eat it,  so can I fix it by whizzing it more?

Thanks!!!

Yes - mine is always smooth with the seeds in. If hot slowly get up to speed 9-10 while holding MC down with a tea towel for 1min. Let us know how you go.  ;)

Could pour it through a strainer,  but Nay-nay's suggestion should work.

mine is always smooth. Sometimes I just let it go for about 2 min if I am fluffing around in the kitchen.

Something my GL has just taught me is to have faith in my TM!! If you turn the speed dial SLOWLY to speed 9 you don't need to hold in the MC with a tea towel. It will just spin around and let the steam out. Have tried it now heaps of times with heaps of things (BBQ Sauce is a weekly thing here  :-)) :-)) ) and so far no problems  :)

Well,  I tried whizzing it up and it improved,  but not totally.  But I had to stop as my poor bab hates the noise of it and cries.   :'(

The 2 elder girls found it in the fridge and asked 'Is that pumpkin soup?'  I said yes,  but it's a bit different to the one they're used to...  it has nuts in it.  (hee hee)  Then I elaborated and said,  "It has pepita nuts in it." and my eldest said "That's pumpkin seeds."  D'oh!!

Anyway,  eldest loved it and middle one didn't like the texture.  DS hated it.  Oh well.

I'll do another thread soon about the dinner from tonight....  not so good.  :(

Hang in there Molly and keep trying things. Sometimes it's good to try recipes from the forum as People have sorted out the problems. I still make things that aren't too good.

Stick with it Molly.  I actually blitz things more at the start so that it takes less time to cook and then really blitz them a lot at the finish.  But there is no reason to leave the seeds in anyway !

Except that it makes a heartier nutritious soup!   :P :D ;)
