What is hot pepper paste farfallina? Do you mean something like sambal oelek (chilli paste)?
-
As all we know tomato paste is a thick paste made of tomatoes
This one is a thick paste made of red peppers instead
There are 2 kinds in Turkey as hot and sweet pepper pastes
It looks like tomato paste but the taste is different and stronger
I like it a lot
I don't easily find it around here so I buy from Turkey when I go there
You can find it if there is a shop that sells Turkish groceries as hopefulcook did
Fantastic, thanks farfallina I am looking forward to trying more of your recipes. I cooked the Evlan Kiz Corba and my Mum and DH both loved it - tasted very 'authentic'. I am also excited I found a distributor selling Turkish groceries including red pepper paste and olives. I hope you enjoy Istanbul I was there Feb 09 and still miss it so much! I'll keep checking here and your blog for new recipes. Cok Tessekular Ederim!
When I don't have it I try to substitute by using tomato paste and chili powder or red pepper flakes. It wouldn't be the same but desperate times call for desperate measures :)
