Can tmx be used as a slow cooker?
I have this recipe I want to try - Red Date Kongi
1 c wholegrain rice, washed and soaked overnight
1 tsp salt
1/2 c dries chinese dates, finely chopped
1 tsp freshly grated ginger 10 c filtered water
(would havy to do 2/3 amount for thermie)
place all ing in a double boiler ,bring to a boil and simmer for 12 hours on a slow heat.
How would you do it? S4 5 mins 100 and then reverse, soft, 50 deg for 12 hours? Can Thermie even do 12 hours?

The maximum time you can set on the TMX is 1 hour - somethings you just may need to use a slow cooker for ;)

bugger :-))

Imagine having to go and set it for an hour, every hour. :'(

zebraa, Why does it take so long. ? Have you made it in a slow cooker?
-
no - I don't have one!
Dunno why - it is a breakfast dish for Cyndi O'Meara's book. Ithink it might be soem medicinal breaking down enzymes thingi?!!!!! I woudl imagine it would be quite edible after an hour or two. Maybe I'll just do that!

Yes, I'd give it a go.

Hi Zebraa
I wonder if it is similar to the chinese drinking porridge in the Everyday Cookbook -takes a fraction of the time. My chinese cookbooks only cook the rice until it is really 'broken down', so I don't think it would take 12 hours to achieve this in a TMX. Life's too short!

LOL you lot have just saved me $60 on a slow cooker! (And who even knows if I would like this dish :-[)

Just wonder if blitzing the rice first might also help shortening the time? Then cook a bit before adding the red dates?
