Title: Temperature setting on TM21
Post by: DanDe on October 21, 2010, 05:25:01 am
I am a new owner of a TM21 and have downloaded a UK Manual for it.  Being unfamiliar with the unit and with this type of cooking in general, how does one figure out when the temperature has reached the setting on the Varoma dial?  I see no readout or any indication when the desired temperature has been reached.  This is a US model so it is in degrees F not C.  If a recipe tells me to cook at 100 C for 15 minutes at speed 3 does that mean I need to manually read the temperature with an external thermometer and when it reaches 212 F set the timer for 10 minutes.  Seems there should be some sort of indicator when the unit has reached the proper temperature.  Or perhaps it means to set the temperature dial for 212F and let it run for 15 minutes but I don't think it will come up to 212F in 15 minutes.

What am I missing here????  Be gentle, I am not much of a cook....yet!

Thanks!

Dan

Dande, with the TM31, if a recipe says to cook at 100oC for 15 minutes we just set the temperature and timer at that level - the recipe has factored in the time it takes for the temperature to reach 100oC. Yours should work the same way but others with first-hand knowledge of that model will answer your other questions.

Ok JudyDawn,

Thanks!  I was hoping that was the answer!  I would need to buy stock in a thermometer company trying to stick that thermometer down inside there with that blade spinning.  I thought with the new model there would be a temperature readout but perhaps that is not the case.

Dan I agree with Judy.
On the TM31 there are lights next to each of the temperature settings which light up as it reaches that temperature, but I never pay attention to them at all and just go by the recipe so 15 mins at 100 ° on speed 3 is just that, no matter what temperature it is at at any point.

Ok judydawn and Zan,

Thanks!  Now that I understand how that works I am going to give this thing a try today.  Looks very interesting, see how my first cook turns out.

Well,

Did Thermomixers Split Pea and Ham recipe and it turned out pretty darn good for the first try.  This could get addicting!

Good to hear one of my recipes worked.  Make sure you check the speed differences chart for TM21 vs TM31 from Thermomix.com.au  http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=109.0 (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=109.0)
