Title: What are the differences between a TM21 and TM31?

I have a friend who would love to purchase a TMX, and due to budget restraints is thinking of buying a second-hand TM21.  They think they can get one for $500-$600.   From what I can find on the forum, I gather that the TM21 does not have the  :-: setting.  Are there any other major differences between the 2?  I am relatively new to TMX and dont really know what advice to give them.  Thanks in advance for any info/advice!

you are corresct asbout the  :-: setting. The only other thing I have heard is that the speed is slightly different. Think the TMX21 needs to have the speed reduced. ie if a TMX31 recipe says speed 2 then it's speed 1 on the 21 but I'm not positive. There are several members who have upgraded from the 21 to 31 (MeganJane where are you?:?)and I'm sure they will give you more accurate advice.

Quirky Jo (quirkycooking) may be worth contacting too - she has had both (& meaganejane?)

There should be some info here in other threads. Basically no reverse and not quite as strong.  Blades can't be submerged in water or placed in dishwasher (I don't put in dishwasher anyway).  Temps on TM31 37-50-60 etc, TM21 40-50-60 etc

Thermomixer has basically covered it... the bowl maybe holds a little less, and I don't think I used to fit as much in the steamer either, and I don't think it was quite as powerful... not too different though.  Instead of reverse you usually use the butterfly on the lowest speed.

Thanks so much everyone - I will pass that information on.  I am still trying to convince them to get the TM31 though  ;)
