Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right section for this but.....
I've made Isi's easy portuguese rolls a couple of times now (so yummy), and was wondering if I did the kneading and then the two rises at night, can I then shape the rolls and then put them in the fridge to bake the next morning. My kids love the fresh rolls, and I thought that way they can take a fresh roll to school for lunch. I wouldn't have time to do it all in the morning before school, but could manage baking the rolls. Would this work though?
Thanks

Try it and see and then tell us ;D I think they may not work because I think they would need to come to room temp before baking and that takes a while. But I could very well be wrong.

If you put them in a cold oven and then turned the oven to the right temp I reckon it would work. Must try myself, my kids love fresh rolls too. Isi's are a favourite in our house too.
Let us know how you go.

My friend makes up her rolls right up to the point before they are to be baked and freezes them until she needs them. She then puts the frozen rolls in a cold oven and switches it on. I think she adds about 10-15 minutes to the baking time. She says they seem to be better baked this way than if baked fresh. I haven't tried it, but thought I would pass on what she does in case you'd like to try it.

Both ways would certainly be worth a try. Will be interested to see how it goes.

I am intrigued now. I am going to give it a go. Will be VERY happy if from frozen is as good as from fresh.

Well, I've put some rolls in the freezer to bake on Friday morning (kids have a sausage sizzle at school tomorrow) so I'll see how they go then

I put a couple of frozen uncooked rolls into a cold oven for the kids' lunches on Friday, and they were very happy with them. 'They were really yummy' according to DD. I think I'd still prefer to do them fresh straight away, but for school lunches they are really good. Much better than taking a frozen baked roll out of the freezer!!
