Title: Best recipe books to buy
Post by: the_vermins on November 03, 2010, 03:25:38 pm
ok. Recommend me some TMX recipe books to buy.

Which one's do you find the most helpful to your family?

Meat on the Menu is my favourite book and there are plenty of nice things in the My Way of Cooking too (lovely pictures of all recipes). You can't go past the forum though for the variety and amount of recipes - having reviews and photos is a great help.

I like the meat on the menu and Indian but really you can't go past this site.  Lots of great things both sweet and savoury.

I have the indian one.  Got that for free with my TMX> :D

What about the festive one or budget busters?  Is the Cindi O'meara one worthwhile getting?

I like the recipes on here too, but I do like a good book with glossy pictures. ;)

If you like cookbooks with pics then you can't go past "My way of Cooking"as there is lots of pics and helpful info. So far I have only made the Portuguese cream tarts which turned out great.  Perhaps your dealer would let you have a look before you purchase.

I made the lovely hommus out of MWOC today, but I couldn't narrow down the books if I tried, as I love them all (I just like all things TM) but as JD says - this forum has the best variety and there is nothing like someone taking a photo of their food or reviewing a recipe to inspire you to make it. It would depend upon your dietary requirements and what type of food you love to eat/cook.

The Budget book isn't too expensive $9 ? and the Festive shouldn't be too bad either.

Yeah I think the budget busters was $7 and the festive one $9.  What does you all think of the budget one?  I like being a tightarse and figure anything to help is good. :)

I gave my Cyndi O'Meara one away as it just didn't appeal to me but then that is just my opinion. If you could find someone who had the books and you could spend a bit of time perusing them, I think we probably wouldn't buy too many of the early ones but most of us are cook book tragics and just can't help ourselves.

I use Cindi O, vego and GF most. Didnt' like My Way Of Cooking at all. I think it is really up to what sort of food you like. I have bought Cindi O non-TMX cookbook and it is the best one  I have ever had ;D

I love the Budget Busters book and the snacks one.  They are great little books and inexpensive.  Some of our favourite family dishes are out of these two books.  My boys think they're "winners"!  ;D

I like the festive cookbook - I bought it for $15, but believe it is now $10....I seem to only have one or two recipes from each cookbook I like. Typical of all the regular cookbooks I have.

I love the indian one and the meat one. I also like the Chef Laurent books  ( there was a link to this once on the thermomix site)

I could be wrong, but I think the My way of cooking cookbook is out of print.  For my 2 cents worth...Love this forum - we have many family faves that have come from this site and I especially love quirky jo's blog, but like others have said, it really does depend on what sort of food you like.  I have most books because I am a consultant too and like to show people these at demos.  I have faourite recipes out of all of them, no one book that stands out for me.  I don't like the full steam ahead book much, but it does have lovely pickies and I do have 2 recipes that I cook a lot from it. Keep a look out for when Thermomix has incentives for customers on, as sometimes you can get cookbooks for free or for half price if you host a demo.  What is fabulous about this site is that the recipes have been tested and tweaked. Just be careful this forum can become a little addictive. ;D

I'm just disappointed that there won't be a new festive booklet for sale this year.  Surely HO could have sold out last years booklet at a reduced price at the classes and had a new 2010 booklet for sale also.  I guess I haven't even made half of the recipes from last years booklet though - and many of them were really appealing.  :)

I loved last year's festive book and have made many of the recipes from it. I was inspired by tasting them at the festive cooking class. I loved going to sit in a lecture theatre and see all the things being made and am a little disappointed that they ae being done locally here this year. I do realise what a massive thing it would be logistically though. It seemed to have become another part of Christmas preparation. I'm not going to a festive class this year as I had planned to take a friend who is purchasing in the new year but she couldn't make it, so I made the decision not to go. I'll probably regret it.

Maybe in the new year we could do a "Post Christmas" get together Cookie???

We could all make a favourite treat from Christmas to share (with recipes to share of course)  ;D

Just a thought.

the only book i cook out of regularly is the EDC  8) i still haven't made a thing out of the indian book or the meat on the menu book  :-))

You should branch out Karen and try the other books - they are far better than the EDC  ;)

the indian one just seems to have too many ingredients, too many steps. i don't cook that much these days, well other than the necessary, it's all too hard with work etc
i haven't even looked at the meat one tbh  :-[

I feel a bit the same way Karen.  Obviously I "should" try more things but I find I have my favourites & I stick with them.  Half the time it's just steamed veg & chicken or fish during the week.  I don't have the energy to get creative.  Funnily enough I still came home & felt like cooking a risotto for dinner after 3 demos in 2 days recently!!!

I think the Budget Busters is one of the best value for money.  The other thing I quite like doing is grabbing something like the Masterchef magazine & converting recipes.  It's more about finding combinations of ingredients that go together & making them work in the TM.  I am totally in awe of people like QuirkyJo & others who make whole recipes up!!!!

I tell all new owners about the forum - write the address inside the front cover of their EDC in fact! - this place is my favourite for finding new tried & tested recipes.

What a great idea JZ about writing our link in all EDC's.  They can't possibly forget us then  :D :D

I use this forum for 90%of the recipes I cook and the rest come from EDC, meat on the menu and the Indian one. This would have to be one of the best Internet sites on the planet, just because of all of the great advice you get, let alone the scrummy recipes.
