hi everyone, i'm nicky from busselton w.a i am waiting for my machine to arrive, i checked the postbox 3 times today after the postman had already been! waiting for that card to say i can pick it up from the post office.
i went to a demo about 2 months ago and was so excited i could not get to sleep because my mind was running overtime (a bit like my tmx will be soon!)
my husband craig just checked out a recipe on his laptop, so i think its going to be lots of fighting going on trying to decide what to make first and who is going to make it. we have 2 toddlers and are looking forward to giving them some healthy treats and have already been making ice and frozen yoghurt and stocking up on berries.
craft night happens to be at my house this week so i think maybe not a lot of craft will get done but a lot of noise will be made!
see you all soon, nicky :D
-
Nicky, congratulations! I know exactly how excited you must be. I've had mine for about a month now. It's a life changing investment!
You will be so confused what to cook first - spoilt for choice!
I wish I knew about TMX when my boys were little but on the upside, I'm teaching them to cook now using the TMX and they love it! They're eating things now that they would turn their noses up at before. It's a cunning plan but you do what it takes!
Enjoy every minute of your new toy. I pray it arrives tomorrow for you!
Good luck!
Jodi

Hi and welcome to the forum Nick74.Lets hope your TM arrives tomorrow so you can get cooking. You will have to have fun whatever you decide to cook first. There are lots of recipes for you to look through here while you are waiting for it to arrive.
-
Congratulations on your new addition!
Why isn't your consultant dropping your tmx off to you? I hope your consultant does the right thing and does a demo for you and gives you your thermoserver.
-
Nicky74, welcome to the Forum. It is great that your DH is interested. Don't discourage him.
-
Hi Nicky, welcome to the forum. Sounds like you are well and truly prepared to get started once your TMX arrives. I too wondered why it is coming through the post - where's your nearest consultant and how far did you have to go to the demo? Busselton's a fair way down but it isn't the end of the earth by any means
-
Welcome Nicky74. I got excited for you just reading your post :D Hopefully it will arrive today. We love Busso and get down there quite often. There is at least one other forum member from there as well.
-
maybe if your DH is so keen to take over the TM, get him into making cocktails so you can lie on the lounge and he can serve you up cocktails while he cooks ;D ;D ;D
-
Hi Nicky,
I can so relate to your excitement. I hope it arrives today!
Great stuff that DH is so keen too!! Sounds like you could have lots of fun together.
My consultant was going to have my tmx posted to me so I could get it sooner than her delivering it but she actually ended up picking it up from Perth for me & gave me the demo when she dropped it out here, so that was good. Hopefully you'll get your one on one demo soon. Just gives a bit more confidence when using it!
Happy cooking!!!
I like Creampuffs suggestion!!! Wish I could get my DH interested!! ;)
-
Welcome Nicky, fingers crossed for your special bundle arriving tomorrow :) I so envy your DH's interest, i have only had DH make custard because i refused as it was so easy, he successdully made it but alas has not touched thermy since "sigh"
-
Welcome Nicky. I fully understand your excitement. You must be almost hi-jacking the postie.
-
hi everyone and thanks for all your welcomes, no it didnt arrive today :(, maybe tommorrow! my consultant just moved house last week, which is why she had it posted directly to me, (the thermoserver is coming with it) but she gave us a demo last week on her machine, and said to call her when it arrived. i had the demo booked but decided to order the tmx before the demo because i knew once i had seen it again i wouldnt want to wait any longer before i could play! so ordered on 1st nov, demo on 6th, and very nearly here!!! i read the 32 point checklist somebody posted so hopefully will be ok. also very alarmed that it was possible to weld the jug etc, and read that out to craig to make sure he doesnt do it! he loves to cook too, so i am very lucky. he was happy to purchase the tmx before he had even seen it, he just looked online and saw the sorbet demo. will keep you all posted with our new arrival! :) x
-
Hi - I thought I was the only one!!! I ordered mine on Sunday night and also can't sleep! My husband is teasing me and my friends are having a field day!!!
-
Hi joynatalie, welcome to the forum. Let your friends laugh at you, you will have the last laugh when you start serving up delicious meals and tidbits for them all.
Nicky 74, glad you found the 32 point checklist to do your own delivery demo :D :D I received my second bowl set yesterday, just 3 working days from when it was ordered and I remembered reading through the checklist when it was posted and thinking I was sure my bowl wasn't given the treatment before using it at my delivery demo 2 years ago. Took me a while to find it but I did and it is now all ready to go when I need 2 bowls. How nice and bright and shiny are new bowls :D. Came complete with items I wasn't expecting - the steaming basket and butterfly which I didn't really need as I have a spare butterfly anyway. Wonder if the package would have been cheaper if I had told them I didn't need these additions. Any consultants know the answer to that?
-
Hi Nicky and welcome. I've only had my TMX about 6 weeks but know what you mean about not sleeping!! I was constantly dreaming about having one after I went to a demo. I wasn't going to buy straight away, because of the cost, but in the end, my husband said to just get it now so I can get some sleep ;D. I'm so glad I did, although I am still tired, as I'm in the kitchen lots more, making so many more things from scratch. But it's now tired in a good, satisfied way ;)
-
It's so nice to know I'm not alone in this madness!! My TMX arrives on Friday and I'm still lying in bed awake at night thinking of all the awesome things I'm going to make from scratch. My DH thinks I'm truly mad, but that's fine, he'll reap the rewards later and will thank me for it! ;)
-
Welcome joynatalie. We all understand the excitement-beware it becomes an addiction.
Judy I was thrilled to receive all the 'bits' with my bowl too. I couldn't believe how shiny the new one was, now it looks just like the old one.
-
Welcome you will love this forum, there's so many wonderful recipes and Thermomix experts here. I seriously don't think I would have got the value out of mine had I not found this forum. Everyone is so helpful and they have so much knowledge. So did it arrive today then ? When I ordered mine it was due to arrive around the time we were going away to my parents for a few days (an hour away) and I was so disappointed that it didn't arrive before we left. My neighbour kept a look out for me though and rang me when it did arrive. I seriously wanted to drive home pick it up and drive back to mum's ........ they all thought I was nuts ! I had to wait till we got home but it nearly killed me knowing it was at home.
I hope it arrived for you today ! Have fun (both you and your DH, mine loves making his own rock cakes but that's about it for now)!
Debbie
-
Hi there
Not been here for a while (more house reno :P)
Hey Judy glad to hear you have a second bowl! ;)
Your output will be mega-galactic ;D ;D
I really enjoy my second TMX bowl too (and today I also got a second bowl for my Kitchen Aid, in glass- really cool)
-
its still not here! i rang cosultant today and she assures me it will be here tomorrow. was probably a good thing as had to work last 3 days and also dealing with a sick child so not much time so far this week anyway! am already tired and reading this forum is not doing me any favours on that front, as i cant get off it as i feel there is so much to know and learn! ok, am going now... to bed! x
-
I've got everything crossed for you that it arrives today!!!!
At least then you'll have the whole weekend to play. ;D
-
Nicky74, I hope it's there for you today.
-
just realised I didn't do a good job introducing myself. I live near Brisbane in Australia. I have a husband who is completely uninterested in food and cooking but fortunately I have two teenagers who make up for it and 4 step children!
I have been "eyeing" the Thermo for about 2 years since my friend got one and finally decided to put it on my bucket list. I am beside myself with excitement waiting.
-
its here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
arrived 9a.m, lucky it came in 2 big boxes, big enough for the kids to have 1 each & play in and keep amused while i unpacked tmx!
made blueberry sorbet, slightly icy, think i may not have processed long enough, otherwise quite edible. kids loved it.
dinner was apricot chicken from everyday cookbook. great success.
think i may try a cake or something tomorrow.... mmm descisions descisions!
-
Oooooh congratulations ;D ;D
Glad you are enjoying it. I've still only had mine 10 days and I think I've used it everyday since I got it. I got an extra jug with my order so sometimes I'm literally just swapping jugs!
Also got the Indian cookbook - highly recommend it, tonight's dish is butter chicken (goodness only knows what its going to do to my arteries .... :o)
Nik
-
Yay! How exciting! Congratulations. It would have been terrible if you had to go another weekend without it.
Nicky, have a terrific time playing with your new toy. You'll be the envy of all your friends now!
xoxox
-
Great news Nicky74. I bet the weekend is all excitement with the TMX.
-
how good is the thermoserver!!!!!!!!!! i made the salami & tomato fettucine tonight and had to take some over to my friend and her girls as she is sick and when i got back to eat mine it was still piping hot! and everyone loved it! so tasty.
have to ask, the seal on the lid smells from last nights dinner, does anyone know how to get rid of the smell, worried it will taint things like cream etc. i took itcompletely apart and washed it in soapy water.
-
Hi I am from Broome WA and my TM and I have a very healthy relationship!!
I felt the same way. I have had a TM for 2 weeks and haven't stopped using it, talking about to everyone and thinking what to make next. Absolutely love it!!!
-
Welcome to the forum joolz. I'm sure your TMX gets used for lots of sorbets and cold drinks at the moment.
-
Nicky, the smell does disappear. Leave it open to air. Bi carb soda and vinegar may reduce some of the smell. It wont last and I havent found any gets tainted at all. I use mine constantly! If it really bothers you, you could always try boiling some water with lemon in it.
Enjoy all the lovely treats you can make for your family!
xoxo
-
mango season at the moment so sorbets, slushies and smoothies are fantastic.
-
thanks jodi, i just read the manual tonight and i hadnt been leaving mc off. will leave lid off too etc.
made butter chicken tonght, was a bit bland though, think maybe to do with the fact i didnt have whole seeds, but ground ones so i didnt toast them to release the flavours.
think i may try the chicken and cashew tomorrow, will test my skills as will be first time using varoma!
nicky ;D
-
Hey Nikki,
I made the Butter Chicken as one of my first dishes when I got my TMX and like you I was a bit disappointed. I thought it was bland too. I did use the whole spices etc, exactly like the recipe. Couldn't work out what went wrong. ??? Maybe someone on here will advise us what to do to add some flavour.
Glad you're enjoying it though.
-
Hi Jodi & Nicky - I love that you're enjoying your thermomixes!! Have you tried the Butter Chicken recipe in the Indian cookbook? It's FAR from bland!!! Absolutely delicious - but you've got to make the tikka paste first - it's really worth it! The tikka paste recipe makes a litre of paste, which keeps in the fridge for months, and you can use it in all sorts of things - on a lamb roast, in curries, even in sausage roll filling! (I made some chicken & vege sausage rolls the other day and put tikka paste in - they were delicious!) Anyway, the Indian book recipe is heaps better than the one in the EDC.
Have fun!! ;D Jo
-
Oh Jo! Thanks so much for the tip. I did look at the Indian Cookbook recipe and then realised about the tikka paste. All looked too hard. Now I know that it's useful in other dishes I will definitely give it a go!
Awesome! :D
-
>:( still waiting for mine - still trying to decide what my inaugural meal will be!!! I am a vegeterian so any suggestion my fellow thermomixers???
-
Check out the recipes in the Vegetable section of the forum joynatalie - the vegetable lasagne seems a good one to start with. Then there is the Chinese stir fried vegie recipe in the EDC which you will get with your TMX. Lentil bolognaise from Quirky Jo's blog is another one. Hopefully you have ordered the Vegetarian book too.
-
Do you like quinoa, joynatalie? We love making Mexican Quinoa (http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/2009/02/mexican-quinoa.html), and usually have it with spelt tortillas (http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/2009/02/spelt-tortillas.html). Or as JD said, the Lentil Bolognese (http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/2009/01/lentil-bolognese.html) is nice :) Or if you want something raw and refreshing, we love Raw Pasta Sauce (http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/2009/01/raw-pasta-sauce.html)! ;D
-
I did the Butter Chicken from the Indian Cookbook. I also made the tikka paste and have loads -its well worth doing because tikka paste can be used in anything. We thought the butter chicken was gorgeous :)
Nik
-
thanks jo, i dont have the indian cookbook yet, but my sister in law has it who we will be seeing at xmas, so i will have to borrow it from her! 1 litre of paste seems massive!
went out and bought some new spices today, whole seeds! also bought bakers flour and yeast, i thought the tmx was supposed to save us money but i seem to be at the shop everyday at the moment because i cant get organised and do a whole weeks munu yet. just want to try out all the new stuff, but i guess i'd better eat my freezer up too!
experimented with juice tonight, made the carrot & orange one first, but when we tasted it was a bit watery & tasteless, but the end of the jug was more orangy & delicious, i poured it straight away so thought it would have been well mixed but maybe needed to stir it as i poured.
then made a boost juice, was really delicious! :P
nicky :)
-
I use 2 carrots in the carrot/orange juice Nicky74 but I have found that most fruit juices improve with age and are even better the next day (thinking more the berry ones than orange though)
-
Nicky give it a few weeks and you will have most of the different things you need and will then save loads of money.
Jodi I just asked about the tikka paste as just (finally) got the indian cook book but worried a litre was a lot to eat in 6 weeks (and we do a lot of curries, lol) but with being able to freeze it and using it to flavour other things I'm very excited to find the time to make it.
-
just got delivery :) it is beyond exciting but i forgot to stock up so have nothing ready to make!!! i ended up heating frozen pizza! my demo was a disaster as the scales were off so we ended up with buckets of uncooked custard so i learned the value of making sure the feet are secure on the bench.
-
Not a good start joynatalie - hope things improve from now on in.
-
hi joynatalie, you poor thing, we all learn by our mistakes, its what makes us better people and better cooks! i made the chicken & cashew dish tonight, was very excited because it was thefirst time i used the basket and veroma, but i didnt like it at all, it was just tastless. needed a lot more flavour added, maybe a sesame marinade on the chicken first or something, so just keep that in mind if you decide to make that or the butter chicken, you need a lot more spice, however, i am still raving about the tomato & salami fettucine, that was delicious.
made the stock concentrate today, that was really easy, apart from the shock when i tasted it, salt omg! :o will be great to use though.
look forward to hearing what you have for dinner tomorrow joynatalie :)
nicky :P
-
just letting everyone know that i have to work tomorrow but dh has the day off so he is looking through the recipe book choosing what to cook for dinner tomorrow night, think hes come up with shepherds pie. just got mince out of freezer but its 3 times the amount needed for recipe so he will just have to make something else with the rest! (he doesnt want to mess around increasing quantities on his first ever use of tmx) still havnt come up with a name yet for it, i asked my 3yr old, she called it the sorbet thing!
nicky ;D
-
Much better day, made tomato cashew dip, fettucine and cake! Still struggling with measuring stuff particularly liquid when there is already stuff in it. I am loving it
-
Nicky, we love the chicken and cashews, but I do 'tweak' it a fair bit, and use coconut cream with the water in the bowl so the rice is coconut rice, then make a quick cashew satay sauce out of the 'juices' at the end. Been meaning to post my version - must do that!
-
hi quirkycooking, i checked out your blog last night, very interesting, i dont know how you have time for it all!you are an inspiration. :)
-
Thanks Nicky :) I haven't had time for much blogging the last two weeks :( I just seem to be running past the computer and quickly checking the forum to see what's happening! ;D
-

Joynatalie, you can measure anything into the TM bowl at any time, even during cooking. Just turn the speed dial off, press the scale button and add what you need. Then just turn the speed dial back to where it was and it will continue cooking. Always make sure the 0:000 comes up though before adding anything. I got caught out a few times by trying to add ingredients before the noughts came up and it doesn't work :-)) :-))
-
You guys are so nice! Things are improving I made another pasta thing last night (my own concoction) and tonight I made. Rice with salmon and veggies in the varooma. I am really interested in making coconut rice but don't know how if u make rice in the steamer. I did make my own cake (twice lol) the second time I used the butterfly which improved the fluffiness! Not sure what I will make tomorrow! I am off to mark t in the morning so will stock up on fruit and veggies as my kids are loving the smoothies.
-
Chelsea has a steamed coconut rice recipe on her blog joynatalie here http://fulllittletummies.blogspot.com/2010/07/filling-tummies-during-my-steamfest.html

Thanks judyo

Hi Nicky a late welcome to the forum and the world of TMX. Already you have discovered the wealth of knowledge and support that comes from this forum. There are never enough hours in the day to play with your TMX, surf around the forum (and all that goes with that experience) as well as do the mundane activities of life - :D :D. Enjoy!
Cheers
Robyn
-
hi robyn, thanks for the welcome! omg i think i have just gone through a day without using it! :o
-
hi robyn, thanks for the welcome! omg i think i have just gone through a day without using it! :o
NOOOOOOO - come on get going - use it quick!!!
I think I used it for you today - mines not stopped this afternoon!
Nik
-
I had thermomix day yesterday literally in the kitchen all day! I am in love with the pizza I made my own sauce as well. I have my demo party tonight
-
I also notice that I use mine everyday sometimes all day. My neighbours come over and watch me make different things in amazement .
-
We have my fil staying this weekend. A man less familiar with the kitchen I've yet to meet but even he asked me WHAT is that?
Niik
-
we made up for it today, i woke up this morning and realised we had no bread for toast, and a very small selection of cereal, and we had the in-laws staying!! aaaargh! so we whipped up some bread, sort of! they were adapted from the basic bread recipe, but added sultanas, apple, walnuts allspice etc. they tasted yummy but were a cross between fruit bread and scones, everybody loved them though, were quite a good breakfast item.
then we served burgers (processed in tm) with the beetroot salad.
i went out this afternoon, for some rare time off from the kids, and dh had made icecream with the kids (i could tell from the pink stains on their t-shirts) and returned home to find a very stressed dh vacuuming up sand that the toddlers had tipped into the playroom! and them in time out in bedrooms!
we have just spent the evening doing a menu plan for the week, and after getting several ideas i said to dh "we dont have to do every item in the machine" and he pretended not to hear that comment! glad he is as enthusiastic about it as i am. ;D
-
Had a demo last night with my very sceptic neighbors as guests.... There was stunned silence and then much oohing and aging and one bought one on the spot! I have been nominated to cater Xmas block party! Only disappointment was that the consultant didn't make butter, do any of u make it and do u have any tips given my newbie skills and knowledge
-
That's great about your demo, joynatalie!!! Butter is really easy - just use pure cream (not thickened), up to 900g at a time, whip it with the butterfly on sp 4 until it separates and starts to bump around (stay nearby) - then strain and squeeze off the buttermilk (use in baking), cover the butter with cold water and re-whip for a few seconds, tip water off, repeat, then add a bit of olive oil/other oil and a pinch of salt if you like and whip it for a few more seconds. That's it! :)
-
Belated welcome Nicky - great to see so much excitement :-* :-* :-* :-*
