As I don't understand either Facebook or Twitter, can someone please tell me (and others like me) what this is all about.  Why for example do you have to join, can you just browse without joining (I know it is free).

It looks like it'll actually be more than just FB pages etc.   It's going to be a whole website which looks like a Thermomix hosted forum to share recipes etc.   Interesting.

To be launched on December 15th.....at www.recipecommunity.com.au (http://www.recipecommunity.com.au)   Looks like it'll have some good features like ability to share recipes on FB etc.   Good way to get Thermomix in the public eye even more!

I'm not joining, this is enough for me. even when the forum goes down - I miss it - but as I can quite easily spend an hour here I am able to get quite a bit done until we're back up again.

I guess I'm just plain old-fashioned in many ways - what little I have seen of facebook and twitter seems to be just inane chatter and a time waster.  I've only been a member of this forum for about a month, but I find it so open and friendly I don't think it would be possible to wrench me away, I would hate to see the forum falter.

I guess you can't blame TMX for wanting to market the TMX in any way possible and they do say that the social boards are the 'new' thing in advertising, but as a small business owner I see them only as a time wasting exercise.

I agree about Facebook being a time waster. There's also too much useless information on there! Although I am a member, I pretty much only go on it once a year, to thank everyone for my birthday well wishes. I do have a look maybe once a week or fortnight to see what friends are doing, or when someone emails me via Facebook!

I really like this forum for the delicious recipes and the wonderful people who are willing to give helpful advice so we can all maximize using our TMX's. I also will be staying put  :)

I have a Facebook Page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nyabing-Australia/Skinflint/147297565291844) for my Skinflint Business and I love it for catching up with people I don't often see, especially extended family.
I've reconnected with cousins this way.
If people are putting up inane posts, I just click the 'ignore' button for their page and I never get to see them again. Once you whittle it down to just the people you're interested in, it's a great place.

Twitter is interesting as you choose who you'd like to follow. I see some interesting posts from journalists, ABC News, politicians, comedians, business people etc. They also link to really interesting things on the net. Once again, you don't have to follow them, just like you don't have to be friends with everyone who wants to be a friend on FB.

Facebook allowed us to keep in touch with our son and his partner when they were overseas. We could see their photos and comment on them. So much cheaper than phone calls and easier access to all their friends and family rather than email.

It has it's place as a networking tool, you just have to keep it contained.

i'm with mj, facebook has its place for keeping in touch with people/family you dont get to see often and yes it can be a big time waster, but thats really upto you! i to ignore some peoples posts so i just see who i am really interested in and i love it for seeing what family on the other side of the country are upto.
but i do love this forum, very friendly, good for a chat so i certainly won't be going anywhere!

I did end up joining facebook (as some of you well know) when the forum was down but it has taken me a while to work out what it is all about.  I will not be an active poster as I prefer to rattle on in much more detail here - it can be interesting but sometimes I think 'what the!'

I have facebook and use it to keep in touch with family and friends (and to keep an eye on what my kids are posting  ;D )
but I think this forum is more personalised and friendlier than the fb page  :-* :-*  so I will just have to do both xx

Yes, keeping up with what the kids are doing can be very interesting!

I hate Facebook, my DH signed me up to keep in touch with my daughter who is at Uni, (although she hates me being on there) but my real bugbear is that I no longer have anything left to tell anyone when I meet them or telephone because everyone already knows all the news (whether you wanted them to know or not) I actually think it stops real conversation.
So I for one will not be going anywhere I love this site.

Penji, I'm lucky in that not many of my older friends are on FB, only the younger ones. So, I still have plenty to talk about when we catch up!

i have a facebook page but its purely personal ie a way to easily catch up with family and friends and i have no public pages, games or other attached to it..it is very useful when you have friends and famlily that live far away and in totally different time zones..has been great for me to share news, photos and videos etc but as a chat, forum type thing dont like or trust it...i will definately still be staying with this forum...it works best for me and as for twitter im not even bothering with that!

it used to take me forever sending emails and attaching photos of different events in our lives but facebook definately made that so much easier and i also see other friends photos and what they are up to but like i said purely personal and only close friends and family..not like some who have hundreds of friends some even more basically they add anyone and everyçone to access their info..i dont like that aspect of it!

like i said ill also be here and dont think there is any danger of this forum dying..it just has that je ne sais quoi element that makes it work so well!

 :) :)
