I have a 18 month old and a nearly-4 year old. Our standard breakfast for the kids is Weetbix with some Just Right sprinkled on top for variety. I would love to get away from the commercial cereals, and was wondering if anyone has a recipe for a muesli or granola-type thing, or a home-made cereal that is healthy and suitable for little ones? We are pretty busy on weekday mornings and dont really have time for complex breakfasts on those days, so cereal/yoghurt/fruit works well. Thanks!

Hi KJH! Will they eat cereal made from fruit? They have nuts in them, but if the kids don't like nuts you just grind them up really fine first, then add the fruit. We like these:

I make the CADA from vegetarian cookbook but soak the ingredients overnight before blending (make almonds easier to digest) and top with yogurt my boys love it!
Also cooked brown rice or quinoa with fruit and yougurt goes down well and porridge (so easy in THMX)

Our standard in summer is homemade bircher muesli and winter is porridge both topped with fruit yoghurt and 'nuts' which is an LSA blend I make myself with chia.
So for the bircher I do rolled oats, sunflower kernels, almond slivers, grated or chopped apple, we used to have sultanas but my eldest is picky about them now, soaked in natural yoghurt and apple juice (made in the TM) I do up a huge batch and then we scoop it out in the morning and top with fruit etc and eat. A really quick and easy option you can customize to your families taste. We don't do commercial cereals at all at our place ;D

Thanks for all these recipes! Made a trip to the local organic market yesterday and stocked up. Tried the raw fruit cereal this morning - really easy and yummy!! 3 of us loved it and scoffed it down, but Mr "nearly 4year old" is very set in his ways and resistant to change, and refused to try it and demanded the usual cereal - so we have a little coaxing to do there! Will try the other recipes in the next few weeks, and see if we cant get rid of those commercial cereals too ;D

My little ones have commercial cereal, porridge, CADA or boiled eggs.
Have you tried sprinkling CADA over the top of wheatbix? (Mine will eat fine CADA mixed in with soggy wheatbix or porridge).
I like the idea of soaking the CADA first :D .
