Sorry for my ignorance is buttermilk with the normal milk or is it a longlife product?
-
it is the milk you are left with after making butter. The fat (cream) is separated from the butter milk in the process and you are then left with buttermilk ;)
No ignorance, we have all been there over something some of us like me (that didn't have a cooking background) more than others and eveyone is always ready to help :D :D

Thanks for that Kathryn I have noticed it in a few recipes I have been looking at lately can you buy it in the supermarket?
-
Hi Yvette, yes you can buy buttermilk in the supermarket. It will probably be near the milk or cream.

Thanks Hools I am going shopping tonight.

Yvette you can make your own buttermilk (apart from that left after making TMX butter) - use just under 1 cup (250 ml) milk + 1 tabsp white vinegar or lemon juice
- Place tabsp white vinegar or lemon juice 250ml measuring cup.
- Add enough milk to bring the liquid up to 250 ml
- Let stand for five minute
I have often used this when there is no buttermilk in the house. Cheers :)
