Need some ideas
The weather is way too warm at the moment but of course everyone wants to still get feed.
I have done all the usual stuff...salads, kfc chicken, quiche, friedrice...but my brain is fried so any ideas would be appreciated!! :-\

Same here natmum - no fun being in Perth this week :-[ Poached or steamed chicken breasts or thighs can be put in to a lot of different salads/wraps with whatever salad bits you have to hand. I cooked noodles last night, mixed in bits of cold chicken, thinly sliced carrot, cucumber, cherry tomatos and a dressing - DD was happy with that.
Mince makes good patties for the BBQ (saves heating up the house any more). My gang will eat gazpacho and other cold soups as well - worth a thought!

nice ideas
was thinking of trying a cold soup...this lot is fussy when it comes to tomato
might go and dust the bbq off

I know it is hot isn't it. trying to think of ways to cook without using the oven and generating too much heat in the house. Isn't it amazing though how many things you want to cook that involves an oven when it's too hot lol.

I am so over this heat, DH and I have been eating all the frozen meals I had in the freezer, we did have chops which DH cooked on the bbq on night. Next week is going to be hot, 35 and 36 all week. Looks like salad and meat next week too. Might make the chicken, pumkin and couscous salad, which will probably last us a couple of nights now its just the 2 of us.

Perthites, I just made this recipe (tuna patties but you can use chicken or salmon) - delicious served with salad on a hot day.

they look yum, will have to remember this for later in the week, DH wants pizza for dinner (not)as he just caught me making pizza sauce with the tomatoes that he was going to throw out.

I don't even want to go into my kitchen at the moment. Air con is broken :'( and it is like a furnace inside. Had Chinese takeaway on Friday night and made spaghetti bolognase last night. I think tonight is BBQ so coleslaw and beetroot salad and mayo.
Aaaahhh I'm so over this heat. We bought a target intex pool for $99 with a pump a few weeks ago and that has been brilliant!!!
-
When it was hot here a couple of week ago, I cooked a piece of corned beef n the crock pot in the laundry. Did us a couple of days hot then cold. I feel for you all in WA as I hate the heat. Risotto ?
-
I've just put my Turbo oven outside with a chicken in it to roast. That will be school lunches for a couple of days. BBQ & salad for dinner tonight. I'm so over the humidity & heat. Just about to turn the evaporative AC off and turn on the refrigerated one. Need to do it before all the paper in the house gets soggy from the moisture!!

I love all the different wrap ideas in the Chef Laurent cookbooks - have you seen them? Pesto chicken, etc - really yum, and nice and cool! :)
I'm jealous of your sunshine over there - wish we could send some of our rain your way!!! :)

Lovely new avatar Jo.
We decided to beat the heat and we are in Busselton for a week. GUESS WHAT it is just as hot here. We've travelled all over Australia in this van and have hardly ever used the air conditioner. It's been going non stop since we arrived here.
We've only had barbecues since we arrived and tonight we're going down town for fish and chips to eat at the beach. too bad about the diet, it's hot.
-
yes love the new pic jo!
and have to say im so jealous of the sunshine and heat...you can send it over our way any time...rain, cold wet and drizzly here!! :)
-
Sounds like there is no escaping it Cookie, we have escaped too many hot days in a row this year (so far!). Enjoy your break.
-
Cookie, Fish and Chips on the beach sounds heavenly.

Some great ideas
Def will do the patties JD
Might even put the slow cooker under the patio and cook out there tomorrow.
We are having fish and salad tonight followed by fruit sorbet.
Thanks for some great ideas.

Thanks Cookie & Frozzie :) You lucky thing, Cookie, having dinner on the beach!!!
-
I would gladly send this heat and humidity to anyone who wanted it if I could!!! Would soooo love a cool day. Just don't want to cook or bake when it's this hot. Thermie is feeling a little unloved!!
-
Jennie, I could send you some very heavy cloud, not quite rain. we have had this for 2days now and this is the
Last day of Summer. Not really complaining as I love the cool weather.
-
acw you should definatley live in europe then...there is only about a good 2 weeks of hot weather a year :'( :'(
-
Hope you enjoyed the Fish & Chips Cookie! Where'd you go to get them? I'm very familiar with Busso as my sister lives there. Make sure you go to the Gelato place for a Bacci Ice Cream - they are the best I've ever had.
I'm a bit over this heat too. I'm cooking a Chook in the Turbo oven later on and probably Salmon Patties cooked on the BBQ tomorrow. I make a pretty simple Salmon Patty - Mashed potato, dried onion flakes, egg and parsley, & lemon pepper. I save the liquid and add equal amount of lemon juice and a couple of Tbsp of egg mayo, then thicken with cornflour. Nice hot or cold.
Rice paper rolls made with lettuce, pork mince, peanuts & mint make a refreshing lunch. I also make quiches a lot in summer as they're also nice cold.

We went over to Dunsborough to SquidLips for our fish and chips MJ. I've heard about the gelato place but can't find it. All I found was a sign and a new building being built on Bussel Highway. Whereabouts is it please?
We went down to Margaret River this morning and then out to the coast and back down Caves road to Dunsborough. Lunch at the bakery there. Oh well a bit longer walk on the beach tonight for us. ;)

The Gelato place is right in Busselton on the main street - Queen, I think it is. Next to a second hand book store.

I found it. I asked at Angus and Robertson. You are right, the icecream is amazing. Better than Simmos and not as expensive.
It was full of flavour.
