Title: Has anyone tried baking bread in a weber or similar?
Post by: KarenH on May 27, 2011, 01:52:49 am
I was just wondering if anyone had tried baking bread in a weber or similar BBQ?  We dont have a ktichen while renovating, and tend to most of our baking in a convection microwave oven, which doesnt produce good results with the bread that I had tried so far.  Do you think baking bread in the weber on a tray on the pizza stone would work??

give it a go KJH as i don't see why it wouldn't work if there is a hood on the bbq.  the ingredients for bread is so cheap that you could afford to have trial and error.

KJH, I have cooked bread on a hot day out in the gas weber.  In mine, I find high is too hot though and use low but that is something you will have to work out for yourself.  Does yours have a built-in temperature guide, I bought one and keep it inside the weber as my high usually runs at 220oC. I tend to check it before the time is up as it does tend to brown more quickly in the weber. Have you got the cookbook that came with yours? Heaps of recipes in it for things like scones, cream puffs, cakes, muffins.  On the odd occasion I've done scones or muffins in it.

I can photocopy and send you some recipes from the book if you are interested.

Thanks so much Judy - that is so kind of you!  I do still have the recipe book that came with it - I didnt even to think of looking in that for cooking breads, cakes, scones etc  :-)) :-))  I will have a look through that and do some experimenting.

We do.  Especially in Summer when I don't want to heat the house anymore.  I've baked roasts, pizzas and desserts also.  :)

We have.  You need to have your weber on a fairly high heat though.  In summer we cook some naan breads with lamb roasts.  Since we use heat beads the cooking time is variable.  Good as long as you're not in a hurry!
