Ok just a quick question. I was reading a cool blog yesterday and the author stated that coconut oil and coconut butter are the same thing. Can anyone comment on or confirm this please?
-
hmm I will be interested to hear the answer to that too :)

That's what it says here (http://www.sunfood.net/coconut-butter.html) girls.

Thanks Judy, I hadn't heard of David Woolfe before, yet that is the second time today. I had someone email me something this morning about him lol

Yes it is the same, it is butter till you melt it and then it's oil.

Here in WA it is in liquid form all summer and solid form all winter. There are some beautiful cold pressed coconut oils around. Melrose make a good one as do Nuilife and Niulife (Kokonut Pacific). It is a superfood and strangely, good for weight loss!

While mum was going through her radiation we got told another fantastic use for coconut oil.
Apparently all people who have radiation suffer from the side effect of very thick ropey saliva that you can't swallow or cough up from the throat - gross I know! (mum thought perhaps it was because hers was the mouth - but no)
Anyway I digress, coconut oil helps to break the saliva down so that it becomes manageable.
We were putting it in everything, Mum was also taking it by the spoon full when she could manage it and also rubbing it into her lips as a moisturiser as they were really dry. It made a huge difference.
So there you go, another use for it ;)

I love coconut oil in my lip balms and soaps.
Just to clarify, the 'coconut butter' that we make in the Thermomix with dessicated coconut isn't true coconut butter/oil. The real oil is pressed from the fresh coconut flesh.
