Has anyone ever tried using lupin flour? My DH heard a report on the radio about it at the weekend and it sounds like it has a great many beneficial uses - lowers blood pressure, good for heart health, siginificant reduction in blood pressure .... It can be used in place of or added to foods using normal flour and you can also sprout the seeds.
That's the sum total of my knowledge at this stage. Does anyone else have any knowledge of uses / benefits / disadvantages, etc. of lupin flour.
I have since found this (http://www.irwinvalley.com.au/default.aspx) web site.
I hope my first attempt at inserting a url link has worked.

I too have read about it but haven't used it. I wonder if Quirky, Tebasile or Chelsea (Thermie Groupie) would have had any insight on it??
*Oh and your link worked perfectly. ;)

Some time ago I tried using lupin flour in bread. I used a bread recipe I use for wheat flour and it was quite heavy. I didn't experiment much more as I only had a few lupins.
There is a discussion here. (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=2396.0)

Thanks for that link, Cookie. You can buy ready milled lupin flour so I might see if I can track some down. It looks pretty expensive, though, however, if it really comes through on all of the hype I have read on the above web site link (without having to use huge quantities, which is often the case with so called 'wonder' products), then I am sure it will be worth the expense. They do quote their references on their site, though, and I think that is very encouraging.
I would be interested to get feed back from anyone else who has had experience with the "sweet" lupins.

Hi I am wondering if anyone has used Lupin Flour? I brought some this morning and thought maybe I could use dedes idea on another thread of replacing half or quarter plain flour in my cooking with it. If everything they say about its health benefits are true then it would be worth using. Thanks

I never did get around to using it, Shazzy. It would be great to hear if or how it works for you.

I have used Lupin flour in bread making. The first time I did it I used all lupin flour, it wasn't very nice tasted very beany and was a very dense loaf.
Since then I've just added about 100gm of lupin flour to 400 grams of bakers flour. Just to use it up. Not my favourite bread.
Much better though you can still taste the beans a bit.
For those of you living in Melbourne, the Oasis bakery in Murrumbeena has it and Sunnybrook Healthfoods in Ormond has it as well, sorry can't remember the cost not cheap though.

Thanks Lucyluu. I have been looking at lupin recipes as I now have 1kg to use ($7.69 at my local fruit and vege market) and thought I would give the bread a go. I was going to use the recipe at irwinvalley.com.au. They also had a nice looking apple slice there that I thought I would try as well.

Made the carrot cake with nuts from here yesterday and replaced some of the plain flour (30gms) with Lupin Flour. Didnt really notice any difference.
