Title: Dahl from the TM book
Post by: Sinead on February 17, 2009, 10:35:09 am
I'm still on my first week so sticking to the book for the most part. :D

I had everything in the store cupboard other then enough red lentils, so as the book said yellow split peas can be subbed i did this, about 25red/75yellow.

Its meant to cook for 25mins or so, an hour later the yellow lentils are still hard :(

I def cant sub them with out a lot of presoaking first! Hoping they soften enough to eat the dahl at some point tonight!

i wonder if they meant canned ones?

i make a daal with dried red lentils and it definitely cooks within about 20 mins

I always soak my dried split peas.  I usually do the cheats method. Soak them in boiling water with a pinch of bicarb soda added. They only need about an hour then.

:( :( :( Cookie has same ideas as me - soak in boiling water and then they will still need a fair bit more than red lentils.

Should contact Tenina to have her make necessary qualifications for the substitution.
